That was the RAAF when I joined. Brings back some great memories. Never saw the video before recruiting but I lived near RAAF Edinburgh and new what was around. Went on to do 24 years As a RAAF Armourer or "Gunnie" as we were known. Worked on Mirage, Macchi and Hornet aircraft.

Watching this footage makes me want to join the Australian Defence Force! If only I was younger. Thanks for uploading.

Great little film mate. All us oldies from that era certainly had the best of it. Air Cadets Corinda QLD 72/3 then 20yrs Navy in ASW 75-95. Loved seeing the Macchi's and Mirages off JB on AA tracking runs F111 and F 18's on our way to the Persian Gulf. Good stuff. Cheers Mark Matthews

If you bounced a plane like that you in learning you wouldn’t last long in RAAF pilot training. A lot is expected of you even on your first flight.Great film. I wonder about the F111 though, did it really need to be replaced when it was .

Old tech that was good in its time. Modern radars and look down shoot down fighters ended its days. Needed Classic Hornet escorts at the end if in a real war. Superhornet is a generation and a half ahead.

What year was this presentation, I might have missed in rolling credits the F111 took out. And I love the suspense of the mirage being rolled out, like 2 hours later for a fast intercept. Didn't it take something like 30 seconds for a reheat to come online, and where as the F/A-18 was almost instantaneous, after lifting levers on throttle and pushing forward with a go-gate call ! I read Mach Tuckers auto biography - Fighter pilot, so now I can fly one ! - Great video and there is other historical material that's been uploaded too!

I did numerous engine runs on the Mirage. You lift that throttle handle to afterburner and you got an instantaneous kick in the bum. No 30 second delay.
