So glad to see an ethical Photographer. You got what shots you could and did not stress or bother the Owl. Two thumbs up.
Reminds me of the first time I saw and photographed a eastern screech owl. So well camouflaged if you took your eyes off him took a few minutes to find it again. Congratulations on the saw whet. A first time bird is always exciting.
Cool little owl... with a big appetite! 👍👍👍
Such a lovely Saw--whet Owl Steve. Beautifully captured . So happy to hear your friend gave you a heads up on this little beauty my friend. Thanks so much for sharing. Irene.✨🌳
You are very lucky to see this little cuty
This owl is the cutest thing! Thank you for sharing this quiet and uplifting experience!
I've now seen 13 of these little owls so far this winter in my area in WA state. Only two in all of last year. I learned a bit about where to look for them. They bury themselves so deep in the brush though, that I've only made one decent photograph. But it's fun to watch them.
Forget the owl, I was mesmerized by your blue cap.

Only one left... 😂
Congrats on your first Saw Whet!
I went through this about a month ago. A friend at work told me about a little owl that’s in her neighborhood. The owl was there for a week, and we made plans for me to go down on the upcoming Sunday photograph it. The iphone shot she took of it had me super excited because we had a cold spell here in Minnesota, and it appeared to be Boreal Owl. Turned out it was a Saw Whet, my first. Got some nice shots of it in the pine it still is hanging out in. Had to shoot at 6400 ISO, but was an awesome day to capture one of these adorable little owls, which made up for the total lack of seeing any owls in northern MN at Sax-Zim bog. Great Gray, Northern Hawk, and Boreal Owls were seen and photographed. There were even reports of a Snowy in the area. Got a three day weekend coming up next week, so heading up again to try my luck.
Supercool👍
I have never seen one before either Steve. Beautiful bird and photographs. I had a very similar experience this morning. My friend called me to tell me where an Ermine was located. Got some great photos of a little critter I had not seen in decades. Kudos to good friends. Take care.👍👍
Nice!👍
What a cool looking bird. I am always amazed at the size of prey an owl can swallow and not choke to death. It's like a human swallowing a whole turkey in one go. Nice photos, Steve.
Truth
Wow Steve, spectacular video. What a beautiful owl...I live in South Florida, so I have no hope of seeing these owls in the wild. Except thru your lens. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to your next video.
That was the cutest little bird. We really enjoyed watching the video. I was so disappointed to hear your Africa trip was cancelled. Was looking forward to the video when you came back.
Me too...
Lucky day Steve.................thanks

Super cool!. First time I've seen a Northern Saw-Whet Owl. Thanks to your friend and you. The images of that gorgeous owl amidst the snowy evergreens are beautiful. I think also it's the first time I've seen a Western Hairy Mattheis. Watch your topknot...
A wild beast...
Beautiful owl, thank you for sharing.
I live in minnesota and there are tons of these guys around. I would say your first two pics were really solid. It’s super hard to get clean shots of them.
Awesome find! We have 2 male snowy owls hanging out fairly close to me here in SE Minnesota, and was lucky enough to watch one for a few hours. I was so excited, so I can totally relate to your experience. Thank you for sharing.
Nice!👍

What a gorgeous animal!
Great video, excellent photographs.
Sir , the excitement and photos are really amazing
Awesome Steve, made my Friday afternoon exciting.
the mouse looks like a deer mouse, genus Peromyscus. very contrasting dark dorsal, white venter, including the tail. most likely P. maniculatus up there, very cool!
Cool thanks!
Beautiful - thanks for taking us along!
Great video and photos!
Wow, what a great experience. Nice to have people keeping an eye for ya! Thanks for sharing this Steve. Always fun and inspiring watching your videos.
Glad you were able to photograph one. We have several that come through our area, especially in early spring. I don't think people realize just how small they are and how difficult they can be to get a nice clean image. Great video also.
So awesome! I believe i saw 4 of them on a communication line in my backyard last year... but it was about 20 minutes after sunset. I ran in to get my camera and a light, but came out and all were gone.
Argh, bummer! But cool to see👍
Fantastic, Steve! Super high quality video and your shots at the end are tops as well, as expected. I love this little thing. Isn't life amazing? Thank you for sharing!
Super cool experience! Glad you grabbed the vlogging camera. Fascinating little owl.
Great wildlife videos like buses one comes along, then another straight after ! Can't beat local wildlife ! Cute owl never seen a Saw-wet owl before awesome !😍
Fantastic. Congratulations, Steve. I have a couple hanging around in the forest next to our house in Michigan. I put up a nest box about 2 weeks ago and I’m hoping that some year in the future a pair will find it suitable. Right now, I placed a trail cam focused on the nest box to see if anything investigates it during the next couple of months. If anything does, I’ll post a video.
That sounds amazing, good luck👍
Just awesome!
Nice video. Really like the shots in the evergreen. I had friends tell me a couple of weeks ago about two Snowy Owls about 20 minutes from where I live. Got both (battling females) for my first ever Snowys! So agree use your network. Cheers from Toronto Canada.
So cool, sounds great!👍
WOW, I know you were NOT expecting that to happen! You may feel you got fantastic photos, what a super video it made!!!
Awesome. Thank you!!
So cool Steve. Very nice images and video.
