  • Erik Brynjolfsson explores how we can grow our prosperity through automation without leaving people lacking income and meaning at the January 2017 Asilomar conference organized by the Future of Life Institute.
The Beneficial AI 2017 Conference: In our sequel to the 2015 Puerto Rico AI conference, we brought together an amazing group of AI researchers from academia and industry, and thought leaders in economics, law, ethics, and philosophy for five days dedicated to beneficial AI. We hosted a two-day workshop for our grant recipients and followed that with a 2.5-day conference, in which people from various AI-related fields hashed out opportunities and challenges related to the future of AI and steps we can take to ensure that the technology is beneficial.

Technology will be beneficial for our future and people will have to change political system because it is obstacle for growth.....

Eric, past history has proven that the public can be manipulated by a small group of people. Today they can be manipulated by an even smaller group using technology. I'm very concerned about what just narrow AI can do let alone human AI and Superintelligence.

Good points. Look at 1929. People got fed up, and RDR had to move, or the country would have gone into revolution. That is where we are headed in 2018.

The robots will be looking after Erik when they take over. His optimism will keep us all docile as the machines come to harvest our spleens.

This video didn't amount to much. I guess that's understandable.

Well, Eric is talking about hope; I'm not. The current estimate is an increase in the US GDP of $6 trillion. And, unlike Eric and the people at the Future of Life institute, I'm not guessing about when it might be solved. It already has been. That's why I said that his talk didn't amount to much.
