If years ago I had known you were going to do this video I would have saved my family's 6 person frame tent. 6 feet high, room for the boat, separate bedrooms, windows ( 3.1 😆 ) fully waterproof because the zips worked. You could have had it for free. 😀👍
I'm a wild camper, all land in England is owned by someone. It's not technically illegal assuming you move on when asked, if you don't then it it kinda of is but its more of a civil issue. Trespass. Few areas in dartmoor you can go but the rest of England and Wales its a no go. However 99% of the time no one ever knows you're there as long as your respectful and don't take the piss
If it is National Trust, 'technically' it's private land. And what pullmefinger about wild campers. I also found out recently that it's forbidden to take off and land a drone on national trust land, but can't enforce it because lack of resources. They do admit they don't control the airspace.
Some Islands may be under conservation efforts? (I'm not stating just guessing, in my country we got something called.. ..well wikipedia translates it as "Freedom to roam" (though we'd call in "allemansrätten" basically you're free to trespass on and even camp in many cases for at least 1 day (the camp related stuff that is)). Oh, while ye all be reading this; If your from the North, the way you pronounce the "o" of the word "north", is almost identical to how we pronounce the "ö".

That cooking kit is similar to what I use when camping... But it's worse! I use a methylated spirits Trangia. Pot, pan, cup and heat source all in one!
As a 70's kid and regular camper at the end of the decade, integrated bathtub groundsheet? Now that's posh. We had gum blankets to throw down on the ground and so had to pick where we camped carefully. Brushed cotton sheets folded and sewn up to make sleeping bag liners. A wool rich blanket for extra warmth as the sleeping bags we could afford were rubbish. Canvas single skinned 'pup' tents were the general order of the day. Meths stove, kettle, tupperware plate/bowl and mug. Smash and them new fangled cuppa soups for a quick filling and warming meal. In fact doing anything more complex than heating tinned food, or boiling water for "instant meals" was always a recipe for disaster.
My Dad had Mum cooking on one of those small gas stoves insisting on our morning pot of tea and daily bacon and eggs so she brought the frying pan, pots, metal teapot and of course the kettle. Us kids had those indestructible bessemer plates. Tupperware cups/containers (Dad's a china mug), real knives and forks and camp beds with full sheets, blankets, pillows. I remember cuppa soups for lunch. Dad didn't enjoy too much 'roughin it' but the budget didn't stretch past a family tent. Still lots of fun for us kids.

You did it all wrong. I remember going camping in the late 70s and we would jump on the motorbikes, make sure we had plenty of cash, go to the pub for dinner, then get a skin full of what ever alcohol was cheap( green ginger wine was always a favourite), go to the camp site and become comatose from the booze. The the next day we would go to the road house and get a triple burger with the lot. This may have just been an Aussie thing to do. We always made sure we weren't under a tree though just in case there were drop bears around.

That's the great thing about being Scottish. In Scotland, we have the right to roam. Camp almost anywhere within reason. England and Wales don't have law protecting people who want to roam. Unlucky😊

I just thought I had smashed my laptop screen! You have a splotch on your camera lens and I thought it was a fly on my screen - I tried to squash it with some tissue and my screen went completely black. Thankfully when I rebooted everything was OK.

Back in the 1970s and 1980s my mum and dad would buy houses and do them up so we moved around a fair bit, and it was always remote places in the LIncolnshire countryside. There was bugger all to do so myself and my brother would often mess around in the countryside and camp out somewhere. One particular night in 1981 we got a bit drunk and it started snowing - we thought it'd be a great idea to use our wonderful 1970s tent and sleeping bags to sleep in the garden, reasoning if we doubled up on sleeping bags, we'd be fine. Fuck that was a bad idea - we both woke up in the wee hours hungover, shivering. I woke up on my knees as I'd kind of curled up whilst sleeping. 1970s and early 1980s technology was utter shit for such things. Next time I didn't repeat the mistake - Donington Park to see the Transatlantic challenge bike races in 1986(?) - we got there and it fucking hailed. It was freezing all weekend, but I slept on two bean bag chairs with my sleeping bag and a double quilt. No problem.

The rubber washer on our Gaz stove perished and there was a massive explosion of white gas. Thankfully there were no sparks. Our tent leaked. Badly. The sleeping bags were just cold, cold, cold. Also, it's not 1970s camping without a tin of baked beans exploding on the fire because you forgot to pierce a hole in the tin. -sigh-
I was considerably younger but when Mum and Dad took us camping Dad wanted comforts of home so the tent could with a canvas be separated into 'sleeping/lounge' and 'kitchen'. Our off the ground camp beds were made up by Mum like the beds at home with sheets, blankets, pillows the lot. I think our last trip before we came to Australia we'd graduated to sleeping bags but the camp beds remained. The tent only closed with ties over zips but I remember it was still fun.

God this took me back - being a bona fide old bastard all that stuff was the height of camping sophistication when I was a teenager. You missed the concept of the Camping Gaz tin though - it had 3 flaps on it, 1 that folded down to hold the cooker in place then the 2 sides folded out to stop the wind blowing the flame sideways. It was still crap of course but it may have cut your cooking time down from 4 hours to 2

Our off the ground camp beds were made up by Mum like the beds at home with sheets, blankets, pillows the lot. I think our last trip before we came to Australia we'd graduated to sleeping bags but the camp beds remained. The tent only closed with ties over zips but I remember it was still fun.

I live in South Birmingham near Longbridge so hearing you mention it is weird. Your supposed to have a wind shield round the Gaz stove. Ive camped like that before bac in the day.
God this took me back - being a bona fide old bastard all that stuff was the height of camping sophistication when I was a teenager. You missed the concept of the Camping Gaz tin though - it had 3 flaps on it, 1 that folded down to hold the cooker in place then the 2 sides folded out to stop the wind blowing the flame sideways. It was still crap of course but it may have cut your cooking time down from 4 hours to 2

Having been born in 1973. I have to admit..Iv spent many a camping holiday in one of those tents. Using exactly the same sleeping bags 😅😅
