Looking into purchasing these lights. Do know it there is a difference at all between 660 Rgb and the 660 pro rgb? Specs look very similar the difference I notice on Amazon is the case and the price but is it the same light?

Hi Phillip, This review is fantastic, thanks. I am wanting to get a key light that can be used both for interviews filmed at home and cooking videos in my small kitchen. I am wondering if one of the original bi color 660 lights would be suitable and bright enough for both needs? I could diffuse it with translucent paper or shoot thru reflector for the interviews. ( I already have so much gear and wanted to avoid having to double up on more softboxes etc, so I thought this may be a good portable solution? ) Your lighting with the godox is beautifully done, but its just too big and bulky for my space. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks GG
Do you feel like this could be used as a key light? I'm not terribly happy with the yongnuo yn300 I've got right now. The diffusion isn't great and the panel is too small so a bright square is visible on my forehead. Due to size constraints of my room the light will be 2-3 feet away from me at most
I have the original yn300, I'm just waiting on v2 to arrive, when it does I'll drop a comparison with this light right here. I'm afraid both of these lights are fairly small sources, so the only way to smooth things out is to put a diffuser in front of them to get that light spilling more.
I just purchased a set of these lights and noticed there is very little difference between the brightness settings in the range of 1% to about 10%. It happens on both of them. Is this normal? I am using them as key lights with desk mounts and having a hard time to find a sweet spot for lighting and green screen. Wondering if I need a third for the green screen?
Yes, a lot of lamps have this problem where 1% really isn't very dim, it's almost as it starts from 10% on a lot of them. That depends on the size of your screen, if it's a little uneven best thing to do is to diffuse them so them spill onto more of the screen.
The Neewer 660 comes in the regular bi-color as well as this RGB model. Is the RGB model exactly the same, except that it has added RGB capability? Just wondering because I'm thinking of buying one of each and would like them to work well together when they are both in non-RGB mode. Thanks.
Hello Phillip, amazing video as always. I have question about these lights. I'm currently working on new studio set up (at very beginner level) and I'm considering buying these Neewer 660 lights. I really like the RGB option but for most of the time ill be using only white/yellow light for video-recording but i don't know if these RGB would be powerful enough to lights-up my studio properly or if I should rather buy Neewer Bi-Color 660. I'm planning to use them as an A: main light and B: Fill Light (soo 2 pieces). Do you think RGBs would be enough or should i go for Bi-Color ones?
So for me the power this light drops in daylight is more than enough, but it has 170+170 warm and cold leds, and 330 rgb. The Bi-colour has 330+330 warm and white, both are 40w lamps, not having the 660 bi-colour I can't be sure, but having almost twice the amount of bulbs it should have almost twice the amount of power output at 5600k. The RGB for me is enough though in daylight and I love that I have the option of such lush RGB colours. Hope that helps guys!
@@PhillipSkraba yeah thankz for the answer Phillip! i think ill go for one BI-Color as a Key Light and one RGB as a Fill light (cuz it can be less powerful) soo in case im gonna need RGB i can use it!

Great video! I just noticed that Neewer has a 960 RGB panel as well. Any experience on the difference of light output? I also noticed it runs on V-mount batteries as oppose to the Sony NP’s. I wonder if that would fix the issue of less power when using batteries for the 660 as oppose to plug in power. Hmmm... Any thoughts?
I haven't no, I'm guessing it's just 1/3 brighter than this one. The 660 is amazing, I love it, and the 960 is just a new version with more light, so I'm guessing it's just as great! The V-mount is superb, but V-mounts cost a lot, that's the only downside. It does come with a power adapter so that's good. I think that might help with the output as V-mounts have much more power than small NPF batteries. I'll ask, maybe they'll send me one out for review.

I'm not sure why either, I'll try to get an answer for that. I'm guessing that if you could get a battery that could input the same wattage, voltage and all that jazz, it's possible that if would light at full intensity. I'm not too good at electricity, so I wouldn't be able to tell you what battery would drop that kind of power. Maybe the switch for battery is just designed that way. You can mix tungsten and daylight but the sweet spot would be in funny place 4400k, which is just a temperature that looks odd. It would however be running all leds at the same time giving it a little bit more power, yes. Thanks for dropping by Bill 🔥
@@PhillipSkraba The correct word for wattage is power. Power is in watts, current is in amps, voltage in volts and resistance in ohms. It hurts my ears when people say stuff like ohmage for resistance etc.
You could replace the AC power block with a battery as long as you satisfy the input requirements (From neewer.com Input Voltage: DC12-15V; Power: 40W). That about 3.4 A @ 12 V or 2.7 A @ 15 V.
Hi Michael, I'm so useless when it comes to electricity, I see what you're saying, but my brain just doesn't connect the dots, I'm just not wired like that... (pun intended) I wish I could get my head around it, but every time I try I just go braindead.

I can easily electrocute myself through lack of knowledge, I dance like I've been electrocuted, but I really know my way around a paintbrush.
Im so new at this. I was wondering about your professional opinion. What do you think about the GVM RGB 800D vs Neewer 660 RGB ? They are both very similar. Was wondering which one you recommend?
I've had quite a few questions about this, I've played with both of these lights, but currently only own the Neewer which I use a lot. I'd go with the Neewer, it feels like it's a much more polished light, and the app is really great. I've been using it tonnes since this video and never had one problem with it.
It’s quite a powerful light for its size, two of them would definitely work better. I think for a small studio space it could do the job, I know others have used them as a key light as it’s a fairly large source and can be nicely diffused.
It's a totally different light! It's an excellent one though. The LC500R is okay, I've had a couple of friends return theirs, if you want a light wand go for the Yongnuo YN360 III, that's no doubt one of the best I've ever used.
Can you use normal light on this ? So there's no plint in getting the non RGB version? I can only find 552 and 530 on the website are they older models?
Yes, you can use normal light with it too, as in Daylight, sure! It has the best of both worlds. The CCT version is cool too, I have it, but this is just a ton more useful for me with the RGB leds.
Those are two very different lights. When it comes to light quality and colours, I'd say they are both very similar. It really depends if you want a wand type light or a panel.
Thanks for sharing Phillip. Excellent to the point review. No BS. A question though. How versatile are these lights? I see you are using a different studio lights which you referred to as "the big boy". Why use the big boy? Are Neewer 660 not bright enough? Or are they focusing the light at only one spot. Are they powerful enough to light a room through window and diffusion? Just need to know how bright they are and in how many ways they can be used? And where they cannot be used and we must get some other light. Thanks!
You're welcome! Well, the big boy is a Godox SL60W with a 120cm softbox so it really diffuses the light. I think with the right diffusion the 660 would be able to achieve the same effect but using a higher ISO as it's not as powerful as the Godox. It's a different type of light source, I use it mainly as a product lighting light rather than an "interview" type of light. It is very versatile, and sure, you can use it to light people too, it just doesn't have the raw power of the studio lights.
Nice review and overview. Have you used this for photography? I'm considering this to only light up the backdrop but I'm concerned about the light output
Thank You! Well for photography light output isn't that big of a problem as we don't have to deal with shutter speeds, of course depending on what you're shooting, but most of the time in the studio it isn't a problem. It will light the background very nicely. What would you be shooting?
Hello, Phillip! Thank you for the great video and doing this useful work, your channel I recommend to colleagues in video/photography. Just one same question as the previous guy asked: is the output powerful enough for photography, like portraits in interiors, if made on film camera? Arrgh!
RGB all the way, you have a lot more flexibility to create. This packs a punch in bi-colour, but if you want a light for interviews at a good solid price go for the Godox SL60W.
@@PhillipSkraba woah! Thanks for the quick reply! I used a fair amount of bi-color panels in previous jobs, and I think for the additional bucks the RGB will be the best choice in versatility, thanks man!

Hi great video. I just bought 2 X RGB960's and I downloaded the Neewer apps on my phone but can only control 1 light. Do i have to synchronize the other light and how do i do it? Thanks for any information you can give me. Joaquin

I’m trying to get some RGB Light Neewer 660 - $140 Nanlite MixPanel 150 - $1.1K Which one of those Light Is BRIGHTER? I really can’t choose between the two, I will using them to shoot music video during both Day & Night Time.
Well, you're talking about a 40w vs 150w light, the Nanlite puts out approx 11,300lux @ 1m, the Neewer 1,500lux (I tested 800lux), so the difference is huge. The Nanlite is a larger, more advanced and a lot more expensive light, they really aren't on the same playing field. Don't get me wrong, the Neewer is a fantastic light for it's price, it's just catered to a different filmmaker.

Yara Negrete I bought it at my local camera shop, just a tiny micro mini light stand. I think Neewer make them, so they’ll probably be on Amazon.
Is this good for key light as well?
Sure, it's worth diffusing a little to get it nice and soft.
@@PhillipSkraba thanks!
Anytime!
Subbed you! Great style! Looking to upgrade my channel and thought the best way would be to get decent lights. Sounds promising! Thanks for the review!
Welcome to the channel! Yes, these Neewer panels are excellent, I can highly recommend them! All the best with the channel!
how many lights can the app control at one time?
I only have one, but I believe you can set different lights and also have them in different groups.
Great review, Philip. I was actually thinking of going for the Yongnuo YN360iii. Now I don’t know which is which. Any suggestions, please?
Both very different light sources, I love both. The Neewer is a tripod light for me, the Yongnuo I use a lot by hand and move around.
@@PhillipSkraba Thanks for the response, Philip! The Yongnuo can also be mounted on a stand though☺️
Yes, that’s correct 😂 I’d probably go for the higher output, so the Neewer.
@@PhillipSkraba Neewer wins then🤣 I’m basically going to be using them mostly for greenscreen
I’d go for the Neewer in that case! It’s got more punch and a more even spill
after your review...I just want them!! I did not understand how slow is the loop between colors...
It's a pretty cool light! I use it quite a lot till this very day. The loop is a good speed I'd say.
thanks, solid review :)
You're welcome!
Great review! You seem really likeable too, subbed
Thank You, I try my best to be me. I really appreciate the sub 🔥
I can’t seem to find a version that come with the battery packs :/
I'd buy them separately for a better choice and price.
I am really doubting between the RGB and Bicolor version, mainly because of versatility. I really love the additional RGB options, but I'm also looking into a light that's great for interviews and maybe even as a key light (doesn't have to be the brightest bulb of the bunch, hehe), but I'm really debating wether the RGB or the bicolor set is the go-to..
Anytime, I do my best to get back to everyone! Yes, I think the RGB is the best deal, it's an excellent lamp!
@@PhillipSkraba yeah I notice! That’s why you earn yourself extra exposure, subscribers and viewers! Just ordered the RGB’s this morning!
Ohh, you're going to love them! Those colours are so tasty 👌🏻
It seems like good value for its size but the illuminance is a little low. Ex. My Aputure F7 is specified at 1500 Lux @ 1m, however it's not RGB .
RGB lights tend to be a little dimmer, that's true. I also own the F7, and it's a blinding light, absolutely blinding, it's a totally different category though. I'm totally with you though, give us more power, the more the better 🔥
Without battery can I run by electricity
Thanks 😊
Sure you can!
Thanks
That's mean both I can use
Where’s the link of the App
I found mine on the Apple store, just type in Neewer.
Weird mine doesnt actually create red color. More to orange and yellow but no solid red
Really?? 360* isn't red?
Hi Philip. Thanks for this. Can I use it for my food videos
Yes, you can! It's fantastic for food photography and videos, it will help light up your shots for sure!
What’s the app name?
It's called Neewer.
I’m not the only one not finding the app
hello.can i use them for outdoors music videos?
Do these lights have a police effect ?
I can always tell the people who didn't watch the video 😂 4:56
Is the app in playstore?
That I'm not sure of, it should be. I use iPhone, so it's in our store for sure.
@@PhillipSkraba thank you so I found it, it's the brewery app...
Superb, it's pretty simple to use.
Hi great video. I just bought 2 X RGB960's and I downloaded the Neewer apps on my phone but can only control 1 light. Do i have to synchronize the other light and how do i do it? Thanks for any information you can give me. Joaquin
Hi Joaquin, I only have one of these, that is quite an interesting question and I'd love to help you out but I have no way of testing this out. However Neewer is awesome at support so if you drop them an email they'll get back to you with an answer I'm sure 🔥 Great lights!
What’s the app?
The Neewer app.
@@PhillipSkraba it asks me to Bluetooth my neewer phone gimbal
That is odd. Mine works fine with the Neewer app. It should have a blue background and white circle icon.
@@PhillipSkraba thanks a lot I got the right one now. There were like three apps named neewer and the first two were something different. Didn’t know if app was totally different name or what. This app says lifestyle also so I was confused as to why it would be in that category
Awesome!
Where are you getting your instructions for the app? I’ve looked around on the web and cannot find any manual or tutorial. Thanks.
Instructions for the app? I didn't remember I had any, I just downloaded the app and it's simple, you shouldn't have any problems with it. Let me know.
B R I L L I A N T
Thank You!
I’m trying to get some RGB Light
Neewer 660 - $140
Nanlite MixPanel 150 - $1.1K
Which one of those Light Is BRIGHTER?
I really can’t choose between the two, I will using them to shoot music video during both Day & Night Time.
Well, you're talking about a 40w vs 150w light, the Nanlite puts out approx 11,300lux @ 1m, the Neewer 1,500lux (I tested 800lux), so the difference is huge. The Nanlite is a larger, more advanced and a lot more expensive light, they really aren't on the same playing field. Don't get me wrong, the Neewer is a fantastic light for it's price, it's just catered to a different filmmaker.
@@PhillipSkraba imma just get the Nanlite then. I really need some powerful RGB lights
@@djonlyvibe Yes, this all really depends on what you need it for.
@@PhillipSkraba I will be using them in the studio for videos Vlogs & also Music Video In/Outdoor
Hey man! Did you see any flicker?
None at all, I've shot up to 120fps with this.
Honestly cant find the app in the app store.
It should be a blue icon with a white circle in it, that's it. It's called Neewer, that's what it says on my app and the help page on their website.
Hey guys! Has any of you had problems signin up in the app? I keep waiting for a verification code which I never receive
Yes, I had that once the first time. I just re-installed the app and it was all fine.
Phillip Skraba I solved too, I contacted neewer, they said they had to reset their servers, 5 minutes after it worked
@@TommasoPaitowsky no way! That's so weird they need us to login anyway, I'm not really that bothered, but I guess it would make life easier without the need to login.
Did this light come with a tripod? ☺️
I'm afraid not Leah, you'd need to pick one up separately, I know Neewer has some good prices for tripods and from experience they work well!
@@PhillipSkraba Thanks for answering! Good to know, made been there before with a ring light lol. Worth asking!
Anytime Leah! The ring light is cool, but a little dated, I'd pick up something like this, OR the new Aputure - ua-cam.com/video/gfIL4d2syZA/v-deo.html
Very cool
It's a really neat light, love it!
@@PhillipSkraba I am impressed and thanks for such a top review video on it as well
Nice! Where can I pick them up at?
Dammit! I forgot the link! Description updated, link added, sorry about that 🔥
Phillip no worries at least you got it up. Always enjoy your shows bud! Have a wonderful evening!
Thank You! I really appreciate the support, it’s great knowing people actually watch these 🔥
what is with throwing things off the table?...... is this trying to be cool?........ If you are trying to be cool ......then you arn't!!!
It's spelt aren't, not arn't, it is a contraction, not a noise.
