- Kristen Gula of Gulush Threads shows us the easiest way to transfer your embroidery patterns - with nothing but a pencil! Then, she shows you how to transfer a pattern onto darker fabric using a light source.
Have an iPad? Kristen also shows you how to turn your iPad into a lightbox without buying an app!
Head over to Patreon ( / gulush ) to snatch up the Coraline Petals pattern used in this video for just $1 and then get ready to transfer your first floral embroidery project by snatching up these materials:
Embroidery Hoop: bit.ly/2FsEIrR
Fabric: amzn.to/2L1lmsr
No. 2 Pencil: amzn.to/2AKDOTV
White Colored Pencil: amzn.to/2CnFbI8

This is seriously the easiest way I’ve found to transfer a pattern. I’m so glad you go over it in you book!
This is like the 4th transfer tutorial I have been through. This is perfect! I can start now, I don't need to use an iron or go out and buy anything
I love how you show how to set up the iPad perfect for us non tech people 😁
Yes! Now to take over my husband's iPad!!
Thank you! I am removing special pens and light box from my cart now on Amazon. You just saved me $35!
regular embroidery thread is six stranded, divisible, and looks smoother when stitched. pearl cotton is two piece of thread twisted together. the thread looks bumpier than the regular embroidery thread. I'd say start with the regular embroidery floss
Extra credit to those who counted how many times I said 'VOILA'.
@@jonstamm Danny didn't tell me I was doing it! I don't know the words coming out of my mouth!!
yesss thank you! i dont have an iron nor money for specific supplies other videos recommend so this is perfect!
thank you so much! :D
Thank you! I've been trying forever to figure out how to use my tablet as a lightbox. This is perfect! 💖
Girl this was so dang easy thank you! No crazy supplies. Thank you!
Yessss!! The no moving background option was genius!
Never knew how to do guided access! That's brilliant! I'd love to see tutorials on different stitches and organization techniques for so many crazy threads. My thread box is a MESS
Oh... You could throw in an embroidery ASMR in there every now and then. 😉
Oh my gosh, ASMR! It’s on my list. I want to make an embroidery ASMR video so badly!!!!!! (And organization techniques! I’ll add that to the list). We just filmed our first stitch tutorial and that should be up some time soon!
One of those ideas that's so simple, leaves ya like "duh, why didn't I think of that?!" 😂🤦 BRILLIANT!
Being able to lock the iPad screen is a game changer!
I know right?! Changed my life.
Thank you !!. I finally found a great tutorial. So easy. No fuss. Perfect for a beginner.
Would love to see some embroidery tutorials for beginners!
Jill O'Brien one of the next videos is a stitch tutorial! Just wanted to get pattern transfer down first! Stay tuned!
Thank you for showing how to turn an iPad into a lightbox! It will make transferring a pattern so much easier!
The iPad tip is genius, thanks x
Great idea with the iPad as lightbox! Super easier than a window!
THIS WAS SO HELPFUL THANK YOU SO MUCH
the one tutorial that i've been looking for
This was very cool! I came here for stick n stitch method (not mentioned in this video) but I’ve learned so much! The Guided Access? BRILLIANT!!! And also using the white color pencil while the fabric is in the hoop. GENIUS!! I’d given up on the white color pencil cuz I couldn’t get it to trace smoothly. Now I know better! THANKS!!
Im thankful for your video! Yesss this the easiest way thank u sososomuch🥰
Thank you I am totally new at this
Voila! You earned another followers 😜 OMG thank you so much for this fun and clear video. I just started embroidery and as much as I enjoy it, not knowing these tips make me feel overwhelmed. Thank you again for sharing!

So proud of you! Can't wait to get your book
thank you friend! let's meet up so I can sign it! :)
Love this! I don't have to use transfer materials or other non-earth friendly methods of transferring. Guided access and a pencil
That's exactly it! Earth friendly and affordable are my JAM
Thank you this helped so much cause I’m high
just a suggestion but you may wanna tell people how to unfreeze their ipad when they are done lol. i am not doing that one but i thought ok how do they get their ipad function back!?
Jennifer Smith my question exactly! How do you unfreeze???
you click the home button five times and the menu will pop back up and you can turn it off! hope this is helpful!
I have a question about where to find masculine pattern ideas...

Great tips!
thank you
Love this so much 😁💕
Hi! Thank you for the tutorial. Does it matter if you trace the pattern onto the fabric before putting it into the hoop or is it better to put it in the hoop first?
Always better to put it in the hoop. You need to have the fabric as tight as possible when you are tracing!
Hi Kristen, great video, because you get right to it! Thanks a lot! :)
I was wondering, after you traced the pattern with a pencil on the fabric, will the pencil traces stay on the fabric properly? I mean, will it not fade away or get messy while embroidering? Kind regards from Amsterdam
Not a silly question at all! The pencil does stay on the fabric, but it doesn't affect the embroidery (been using this method for 8 years now). If you do have pencil marks you need to get rid of - use a tide pen on the marks! Hope this helps. :)
So good!
3:30 - regular pencil has left the chat
Danny added the little sound effect and I was DYING
Awesome.
Awesome thank you so much. I don't have an Ipad what else can I use?
What thread do you recommend? I would like to write on a quilt I’m making for my daughter’s wedding in embroidery. Any recommendations as I’ve not really done anything like this before. Many thanks, Lesley Green
Brilliant using the ipad! I use my computer monitor 😂 -yourbasicstitch
👍
I use a regular pencil too rather than the disappearing ones.
I am having so much transference from the #2 pencil to my threads. I have stared to use a gray colored pencil. But do you have any other suggestions????
Sarap Mag Bike! -Ian How
Nice
Perfekt
I have the kindle edition but can't print them to trace them. It doesn't work to try and trace with the picture on the screen.
How do I get rid of the pencil lines on the fabric after I'm done embroidering?
You can use a tide pen or just a clean white eraser.
GENIAL
Hi what if I want to trace on a t-shirt? do you want to do a tutorial on that? :)
Would that work for transfering a pattern onto a jean jacket?
might be difficult due to the thickness of the denim - this is when I use a water soluble transfer paper (like DMC's Magic Paper). You either draw or print on it, then peel and stick it to the fabric. Stitch it and soak in water to remove the paper. Hope this helps!
@@Gulush I'll give that a try. Thanks!
Voila 4 or 5 times. I lost count 😄. . How do you do the light screen on an Android?
Annette Hast I actually have no clue? But I can look into it! (So many voilas, I’m never saying it again haha)
i totally get how to transfer the pattern, but how to i find the kind that i want/need???? do ppl just like google image search things to do or what 😂 i know i can buy patterns on etsy and stuff but that just seems illogical
Wait the 'press home button 5 times' thing doesn’t work for me, am I doing something wrong? 😂
In the video, It doesn't say a step (my ipad actually didnt give the option to me when we were filming so I accidentally skipped over it and we didn't catch it until way later in post), but if you watch the video - the screen capture in the video shows that after you hit the button five times and right before you hit start, you need to turn off the touch option. Hopefully that helps, let me know if it doesn't!
My dumb ass is prob gonna brick my iPad lmao
ok this helps but i don't have an iPad
I don't think you say viola too many. Just enough.
First time I wish I had an iPad lol
