"Mars" was intended by its composer to be disturbing, and your images of the modern 20th century mechanized warfare that Holst had in mind in 1911 - that would come true just three years later - are spot on.
+PianoGuy60 I tried my best to go with what the piece meant to the composer as much as to myself, Mars is my favorite from the suite and it was so inspiring to work with it! Thank you for the feedbacks :)
@@NnenesParadise I would make the argument that "Mars the bringinger of war" may have been one of the most influential music peices of the 20th century. As far as I can tell, it was the first peice to establish the overdriven doom sound that heavy metal is synonymous with. And it definitely inspired the entire heavy metal genre.
If every solar system had a composer who composed music about their own systems, I wonder if they could all be combined together into some sort of giant galactic sound... "The Galaxy"?
Not to nitpick, but this is a quick back-of-the-envelope calculation. Considering Holst's The Planets is about an hour long, and assuming every third star has at least one habitable planet and there is an average of 3 other planets per habitable system, since habitable planets seem to be more common in systems with more planets, and we've only found 11 systems with 6 or more planets, including the Solar System, this would mean the average length of one system's composition is 30 minutes. Since the Milky Way has about 300 billion stars, based on the assumptions above, there are 100 billion stars with habitable planets. Hence, the total length of the composition "The Galaxy" would be 100 billion x 30 min, or 3 trillion minutes, which is about 5.7 million years. This is so long that this is about the time ago that humans and apes shared a common ancestor. In case you're wondering, the 11 systems with 6 or more planets are Kepler-11, Kepler-80, Kepler-20, K2-138, TOI-178, HD 34445, HD 219134, HD 10180, TRAPPIST-1, Kepler-90, and the Solar System. Out of these 11, only 6 systems, HD 34445, HD 219134, HD 10180, TRAPPIST-1, Kepler-90, and the Solar System, have habitable terrestrial planets or gas giants in the habitable zone.
@@sapphoenixthefirebird5063I appreciate your calculations, but no, I'm not talking about some sort of "galactic concerto/oratorio"; more like a galactic cacophony/euphony that no human ear could ever hear... everything being played at once, forever... For so many classical pieces, I have lots of imagination in my head, but I can't visualize it like you did - really great, thanks! Just one pain point: Only Mars and Jupiter are in stereo, the rest is mono. Maybe that is due to copyright/youtube issues, but if there's any way to have all pieces in stereo, that would be perfect.
I've always thought that the suite should have ended with Jupiter; that the planets should have proceeded in size. The last rousing chords have always given me a lift.
Holst personally disagrees with you. He mentioned how irritated he was with giving partial performances with the absence of Neptune and Mercury, for an example. And, of course, people would ask for Jupiter to be last, which Holst didn't intend whilst writing the piece
Jupiter is my #1 of all the planets, especially the I vow to thee my country part. Is so peaceful and lovely, it reminds me of the fact that Jupiter has been shielding us from dangerous asteroids and it is the largest planet.
this is beautiful; YOu should share this with Classics Explained; he covered this piece a few yrs ago. the animation is more silly and there's narration explaining the music. ooh, if you could do a collaboration, that would amazing.
I've seen your work today. Very good job, but it could be a little improved (in my opinion). I don't know what was your screen (projector or plasma displays) but I would make the animation a little bigger. Now is about 25-30% of the screen. The pause between the parts (change to another planet) is well defined by the composer, so don't need to keep all the animation inside of a circle area, imposed over a planet image. Or make a zoom in (making the animation a little bigger). Also could be great a transition between the planets like an overview of the Solar System and focusing to the next planet (zooming in) and starting the animation. Just my opinion, overall a very good job, emotional enough to accompany this music.
Mars: This is the theme song of WWII. I can imagine hearing the wail of air raid sirens and the whistle of bombs falling. Venus: When the rainstorm ends, the clouds separate to reveal the Sun Mercury: Strangely reminds me of Peter Pan Jupiter: I Vow To Thee My Country, played at the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales (RIP) Saturn: An elegy of mystery and suspense as if one was looking up at the cosmos wondering if we are alone as well as man's fear of the unknown Uranus: When your party gets out of control Neptune: A relaxing piece of music
I’m planning a concert of The Planets in 2023, played on a church organ. Our church has a white half-domed roof, so I’m looking for an animation I can project onto the dome. I think yours is absolutely perfect. Please may I use this video?
Hey, it's me again. Um, during Jupiter, Bringer of Jollity, what footage is that at 22:37? Is it from a movie? If so, can you tell me what movie it is?
+laughinsohard It is from a very old movie yes! I don't know the title however... I got my footage on databases of movies that are now old enough to be free to use. I think after 5o or 60 years it becomes free to use I don't know exactly the details but yeah, I got it on there and there was no title sorry.... :/
+Nnene'sParadise How did you find this clip, though? Did you search it? I became interested in this after seeing that figure with the big helmet during the time frame I put in.
So sad it is, to me, that Venus - associated over the centuries with beauty, love, and peace (and subject of Holst's achingly lovely music) should have turned out to be a broiling hell-pit suffocating under a smothering greenhouse layer (a fate quite possibly to be shared by Terra, and not so very long away either). 🌚
If humans dare trample Mars as they trample the magnificently peaceful Earth , it will not go so well for them. Imagine the wars they would have... It would make the greatest wars on earth look like playground squabbles between children. It's easy to do it on earth. Champion of peace. But come try it with the God of War. It will not end the same.

6:56 Star Wars
Absolutely beautiful🌹😊
Underrated
I've always thought that the suite should have ended with Jupiter; that the planets should have proceeded in size. The last rousing chords have always given me a lift.
Holst personally disagrees with you. He mentioned how irritated he was with giving partial performances with the absence of Neptune and Mercury, for an example. And, of course, people would ask for Jupiter to be last, which Holst didn't intend whilst writing the piece
Each is beautiful in it's own right, although Jupiter will always be my favourite
Well Done!
Listen to all at school so good we were drawing what it felt like to us
Epilepsy warning at Uranus
Very impressive
Jupiter is my #1 of all the planets, especially the I vow to thee my country part. Is so peaceful and lovely, it reminds me of the fact that Jupiter has been shielding us from dangerous asteroids and it is the largest planet.
Holst himself absolutely hated his theme from Jupiter being set to the patriotic words "I vow to thee my country" - total anathema to him.
@@davidrobinson7684 No WAY!!!!
@@davidrobinson7684 But why?
Also what is that freaky eye at 13:20?! I thought it was the Bringer Of Peace!!!
this is beautiful; YOu should share this with Classics Explained; he covered this piece a few yrs ago. the animation is more silly and there's narration explaining the music. ooh, if you could do a collaboration, that would amazing.
Which recording was used in this video? Which orchestra and who’s the conductor?
This is awesome! Have you thought about doing Pluto the renewer by Colin Matthews?
No because it doesn't really fit the suite.
Venus: Bringer of Peace at 9:21. I swear I heard that tune before, any ideas what song could it be? Plsss
Leia's theme?
@@sapphoenixthefirebird5063 Not even close.
this is incredible
btw there are no dislikes :D
+Mono Cheto1 YET! Haha thank you :D !!!
Nnene'sParadise its a miracle the haters didtn come already XD
Mono Cheto1 They probably will... They always do... I'm scared xD
*7 dislikers come out of nowhere*
Nice animation 🤩! But, I would like to know names of the orchestra and conductor. 🙏
Parts of "Jupiter" sound like they'd make a really good national anthem.
if you mean "Vow to thee my country", it's not technically a national anthem, but its used a ton during big events in the UK.
Venus in astrology is what you would call Earth in astronomy.
The prequel of Star Wars and many other movie scores 😎
Mars: This is the theme song of WWII. I can imagine hearing the wail of air raid sirens and the whistle of bombs falling.
Venus: When the rainstorm ends, the clouds separate to reveal the Sun
Mercury: Strangely reminds me of Peter Pan
Jupiter: I Vow To Thee My Country, played at the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales (RIP)
Saturn: An elegy of mystery and suspense as if one was looking up at the cosmos wondering if we are alone as well as man's fear of the unknown
Uranus: When your party gets out of control
Neptune: A relaxing piece of music
Adoro!
Can I ask why for Jupiter you put an animation of some kind of King or Pharaoh and scenes of 2 general soldiers of Rome and 1 alike Ceasar?
I’m planning a concert of The Planets in 2023, played on a church organ. Our church has a white half-domed roof, so I’m looking for an animation I can project onto the dome. I think yours is absolutely perfect. Please may I use this video?
Sure, I dont see why not :) !!

+laughinsohard Found it by searching "king" in this website // archive . org
The Snow Queen 1957
Funny how Venus is the bringer of peace considering it has acid rain.
Well, if you were to somehow find yourself on Venus, you would be resting in peace within seconds.
it was awesome? who played & who conducted?
Orchestra, conductor? Please...
Chicago Symphony Orchestra
