Thanks for the video! I've often wondered about setting something like this up. Too much time and effort for me....especially since I travel alone and usually only stay one night at a site as I travel along. I appreciate your effort.
@@jane112wedge . Thank you! I agree, an easy setup is a must, especially when only staying for a night or two. I’m glad you found this useful! Happy travels!
I always hate that awkward first time tent setup. You either feel like a brain surgeon if you get it right away or the dumbest person when it takes too long. Thanks for sharing your experience!
So true! I have a larger tent for my son and me. It has a divider so he can feel like it’s his own tent. I want to set it up at home before taking it out in “public. “😉
Hi Mary! Thank you for making this video. I have an SUV that I want to car camp in but want to find a good SUV tent so I can have more room and be able to stand and change my clothes in. I would also need one that I, only 5’ tall, can set up by myself. I’ll probably bring a step stool or ladder to help get the rain guard up.
I have a similar SUV tent by Napier. Before staking the tent down you should place the back opening up against your vehicle then open the hatch. The straps will also allow you to hook it to your windshield frame or front doors if you don’t have a roof rack. Good job for your first time though! 👍🏾
Absolutely! I have my heart set on a Napier too! It cost more, but I definitely think it'll be worth it based on what I've seen. Hopefully next camping season.
I saw a video of a guy with no roof rails create tie down capabilities by running a tie down strap across the top of the car and fastened the ends together inside near the ceiling. The doors shut fine. Then you can fasten bungies to it that are clipped to the tent loops. Bungies and magnets can do the rest. The wheels are a good place to hook on to. That method works for adding a tarp for a awning. If things don’t seem to reach you can add cord through the tent loops and all the way to another safe place to hook on the car. When you look under your car you’ll see there are many places to hook a bungie to.
@@Bigcat624 , it’s definitely nice for the price. I’ll look for the instructions again, but the only thing I saw printed on the inside of the bag were various warnings about the tent, maybe I overlooked it though.
@@outdoormary wow I saw another couple and the instructions was sewn in on the inside of the bag. which makes sense so that you don’t lose them, but if yours is not there, then that really sucks. because what if you are newbie and don’t know how to put it gather where you are experienced and knew what you were doing.

Happy camping Mary 😊 Oh yeah. I have a bath n shower tent. 😊
You sound like me! 😁 I have several tents to fit various occasions. So far I appreciate the SUV tent because I can close the tailgate before I fall asleep, and that makes me feel much more secure.
The clips work good also, those fabric tunnels always make me bite my lip so not to cuss. Sorry to see Ozark Mountain didn’t put the clip action on there. They do have it on some of their tents.
Think it would have worked out better if the lift gait was open before you anchored it. That's a real good sized tent! I'd be in the same situation as you as I'd be camping alone with no help to put it up. A plus is none of the other car tents I've seen have that piece that will close off the tent if you drive away from your campsite during the day. The doors are massive and screened so it should have adequate ventilation. And the sidewalls are all window so if you leave the rain guard off that's a ton of ventilation!
@@jbird9357 , thanks for the feedback! This tent definitely is spacious, especially for a SUV tent. And I certainly can’t beat the price. I’m sure I’ll get faster with each setup too.
@@outdoormary I'm excited! Want to start traveling in my Equinox. The fact that you did it alone gives me confidence I can do that also. Did you contact Ozark trails about directions?
You don't have it set up correctly. The tent needs to be further up on the vehicle. The trunk is supposed to be all the way open. You should be able to step out of your vehicle into the tent. I love mine
Agreed, I said so myself in the video a couple of times, and that I would better be able to adjust it once I’m out of that rental car and back into my own SUV which has a roof rack . But these are my initial thoughts.
I bought my tent about five years ago. It was only $80 then. Mine had the instructions on the inside. I’m surprised yours doesn’t that’s too bad. The only thing I don’t like about this tent is that there’s really only one opening and that’s in the front. It should have Windows as well. Although I really like mine, I’m looking for something that has more options for windows and ventilation.
@@BadlukBikerChick , that’s a very good point! I didn’t even consider that, aside from the entrance, there’s no windows. I saw a Napier tent with more of what I was looking for, but they want over 400$ new, I’m hoping I can find a used one for way less.

@@outdoormary It was so hard to figure out and put up. I haven't tried it since that first time. I plan on using it in March though. Wish me luck. You did such a great job without instructions!
