i read the gunslinger years ago and enjoyed it but never continued through the dark tower series. I decided to continue recently based on this recap and review and am almost done the Wastelands and am really loving it thus far. Thanks for the insightful review and looking forward to watching your review for the wastelands and beyond. Cheers!
I have been following you for years especially with Stephen King and I wanted to rediscover the dark tower so I went back to all your reviews and it got me 10 times more interested thank you frosty you’re the best
Nice synopsis. Your background tripped me the hell out the whole time lol. it was trippy enough for me to want to watch your other videos to see if they have the same distortion
I’m going through a really bad reading slump at the moment and I’ve been having a hard time focusing on my reads (The Gunslinger atm), and this review helped me so much! You do a great job at simplifying it chapter by chapter. I keep coming back after every chapter listening to your breakdown for that section. It’s all making so much sense. You’re dope. This was dope. Thank you.
Would love to hear more of your thoughts on the series rather than just recapping it. Please start making videos again. Would love to hear your opinion a year later (most likely reading it another time). Do a book-by-book review and then a video about the series as a whole. Discuss what's changed as you've read it multiple times. Thanks!
I just finished The Gungslinger, I have not read it in 12 years. Like when I first read it I still find it to so romantically macabre, and dreamlike and hypnotizing where after reading it yes, I too wanna go out and seek a Tower for myself, in fact I have been since I first read it. But now I also find it kinda sad, it seems the older I get the more heartbroken I become about how so easily, so unhesitatingly Roland sacrifices Jake like nothing because I think we are a society that does exactly the same. We are a society that does not care at all about our children our Jakes, we say we do but we don't, only our Towers whatever that may be. And maybe that's why we're doomed to keep repeating the same story over and over again.....maybe Roland got exactly what he deserved in the end so shall we all. How's that for romantically macabre?
Great review as usual, Frosty. I just finished this book. Quick read. On to The Drawing of the Three. I only have an old Plume edition. Wondering if there’s been an updated version like the Gunslinger. Keep making review vids. You do a great job.
My favorite reading of all time is the Dark Tower series. By far. Whenever stuff gets crazy in the real world, Rolland's world and the Ka-tet's quest provide a comfortable haven. And God bless George Guidall and Frank Muller who narrated the audiobooks to which I listened for scores of hours. Both were good, but Frank sounds so fine to the ear for me. I've bought all the books and all the audiobooks while waiting for a Dark Tower 8.
I just finished the first section so I’m on page 90, I want to finish your book review but not sure if there are spoilers. I’m really enjoying The Gunslinger so far!
First video of yours I'm seeing, brilliant review can't wait to finish to finish the drawing of the three and check out your other reviews! Subscribed ! 😀
I'm surprised there has not been more traffic here lately. The movie comes out in a week. The synopsis is good. I wanted a refresher since I read the series a decade ago. This is exactly what I wanted.
I’ve read the bulk of Stephen Kings early books, just finished the Gunslinger, I enjoyed the story but had a bit of a hard time with the writing style compared to his other conventional novels. Looking forward to the rest of the series. All your book reviews are great, thanks.
HI, these days i am into the( westworld )(tv series)world , is this a good book to read now , cause i have heard that people say that the plot of stories are similar , i just wanted to ask whether ther are similar or not , thanks for any help you may do in future
Very amazing review on the book. I just read the introduction and yet it was very good it was a hard read for me. This video helped clarified the book so much better. I can't wait until the 2nd book.
The last Tarot card was actually "Life" with a picture of the Sun. The MIB says this isn't for Roland and idly tosses it into the campfire. Important little detail I had to correct, but great review overall.👌
When I first read the book I didnt know what I read but when I watched this I figured out what i read so thank you for that frosty I would've been lost and never wanted to read this series
You've gotten me excited to go back and read the series for a 2nd time. Not gonna lie, it's a daunting task, but I feel like the 2nd time I can actually pick up on the nuances better. Having listened to you reviews on the books, there is so much I didn't pick up on before. Also, no spoilers for others, but re-reading the first book will be very emotional after having read the ending!
Make more reviews. You're great. I LOVED The Little Sisters of Eluria, which sparked my interest in the Dark Tower. I ordered this book from amazon along with It. I'll probably read It first and then start this series.
Again great review as always. I like the pace you pick up when the intensity of the contents kick in. How did you understand all the details? You are really a mini computer.
im quite new to Kings work (meaning that id read cycle of the werewolf as a comic as a kid then didn't touch any other books till many years later) and i really enjoyed this book.
So im almost finishing The Drawing of the Three, and after it I may start reading Salem's Lot, because I heard a Dark Tower spoils it later on, any other King books I should read before going back to the Tower?
By the time you read this, you may be already finished. UA-cam's delayed algorithm brought me here. Please forgive the greatness of my lateness (as well as my "former teacher" willingness to offer information that no one asked me for.) (This comment may seem long, but just keep in mind this is the edited down version!) It seems that you are on a similar path as I am with regard to reading Stephen King's Dark Tower and Dark Tower-related books. The man created the equivalent of a cinematic universe, beating Marvel by several decades. Looking back, I wish I had read these back when they were first published instead of "binge-reading" like I am now. Good news is: you don't have to worry about 'Salem's Lot being spoiled until number five: Wolves of the Calla. Long story short, I discovered a list that you can use. I do this because I wish someone had told me what I was missing when these stories were brand-new. They contain characters, locations, or concepts directly related to the Dark Tower books. I will add the Dark Tower books to show which titles were published and when along the Stephen King Timeline. 'Salem's Lot (1975) The Stand (1978) The Dark Tower I: The Gunslinger (1982) REVISED 2003 The Talisman (with Peter Straub, 1984) The Eyes of the Dragon (1984) The Mist (short story in Skeleton Crew, 1985) It (1986) The Dark Tower II: The Drawing of the Three (1987) The Stand, Complete & Uncut (1990) The Dark Tower III: The Waste Lands (1991) Insomnia (1994) Rose Madder (1995) Desperation (1996) The Regulators (1996, as Richard Bachman) The Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass (1997) Bag of Bones (1998) Hearts in Atlantis (four novellas, 1999) Black House (with Peter Straub, 2001) From a Buick 8 (2002) Everything's Eventual (short story in Everything's Eventual, 2002) The Dark Tower V: Wolves of the Calla (2003) The Dark Tower VI: Song of Susannah (2004) The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower (2004) The Dark Tower 4.5: The Wind Through the Keyhole (2012) Some have said his book 11/22/63 (published in 2011) could also go on this list, but I'm not sure. I haven't read it yet, and I still have eight of these to go before I'm done. There is also a short story called UR which mentions the Dark Tower. I believe it's in the short story collection The Bazaar of Bad Dreams (2015) Okay. Whew! That's it. Feel free to pass it on. Or keep it to yourself. Enjoy the quest for the Dark Tower either way.
FamousOnChains you might be right. He pulls the death card and says but not for you gunslinger. Then I think he pulled the life card and says but not for you gunslinger.
FrostyKnives13 I just remembered it cause i just finished reading it for the first time. Absolutely loved it, especially the last chapter. If the following books are better like everyone says they are then my god am I gonna have a good time.
Random Box from what I gather the movie borrows liberally from all the books. Specifically The Gunslinger, The Wastelands and The Dark Tower. So possibly.
Go in with low expectations and it is an enjoyable fantasy adventure. There is much that reflects or expands upon what has already been written. Their intention is for this film is as a reset/reimagining of the novels, so for all intents, this movie will not spoil your enjoyment of the books. Stick to the books and hope that there will be a better film and/or tv show down the road
you say there are two versions, I just read and finished the Gunslinger (fantastic book by the way) but you say that you know the Tarot card section really well and dont need the book but in your version you say he drawns the death card twice whereas in the version I read. he draws a death card "but not for you Gunslinger" and then after the tower card he draws a LIFE card "but not for you Gunslinger" was this a different version of was this just a "brain fart" on your part? :P (with all due respect)
Awesome book and series never get tired of watching videos about the dark tower too bad the movie wasn't more like the books that would have been epic if they did a movie for each book.

Thank you for watching!
So what exactly is the difference between a review and a summary?
You kinda sound like Tom Hanks.
Don Atello I can’t unhear this now! 😛
I agree
Ha, I can hear it too now! Cool
Omg the min i read lol i could hear Tom Hanks voice too! 😊
Yeh he actually does
After reading all the books you know how haunting that first line is.
Nice synopsis. Your background tripped me the hell out the whole time lol. it was trippy enough for me to want to watch your other videos to see if they have the same distortion
Ive never heard someone describe the gunslinger so well. I was glued to my screen the whole time😁 definitely made me want to pick it up again 👍

Thanks for this. I needed someone to explain what I just read. Very good.

"He wrote this when was 19." Huh.
No
Thank you for giving an amazing discussion without spoiling anything that happens in the coming books
Actually King wrote it at the age of 23 in 1970. He talks about it in the extras of the movie blu-ray.
Yup
Thank you!
Wizard and Glass is my favorite of the series

I absolutely love this book series. One of my favourite book series of all time.
I read this book awhile back; really enjoyed it. But the mind-blowing thing about this vid is the fact that King wrote this at age 19..... wow.
The seventh tarrot card was "life," which was also not for Roland...Good summary of the Gunslinger, looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
The last Tarot card was actually "Life" with a picture of the Sun. The MIB says this isn't for Roland and idly tosses it into the campfire. Important little detail I had to correct, but great review overall.👌
The name ‘Zoltán’ is hungarian after one of King’s college buddies. I’m hungarian too, so it makes the book even more special for me.
Great video friend, even though it did take me 5 1/2 years to find you. Thank you.
Love your videos my friend, keep it up!
I have read this book. I am currently watching the Dark Tower movie. And came here for a refresher.
It sucks movie
Good review. Now I know what to use my B&N giftcard on. Thanks!
Thanks, it's been decades seen I've read this book. I want to read the more recent book in the series, and it easier watching your review.
Oh, Donald Trump is going to turn our world into the Gunslinger's world. Strap on your big boy boots, the fun is starting.
The last thing I remember in the series is Roland going into the Dark Tower, and then Roland is on his quest again. Bad ending.

Thanks for doing this, been a while since I read it. Good job!
Thanks for the watch. I'm almost finished the series. One book to read
Can't wait to begin the series.

who is the man in black?
Randall Flagg from the Eyes of The Dragon and The Stand
I notice you drop your "t's" as you speak and I've heard that from others online. So "mountain" becomes "mou-ain. Interesting.

I hear a lot of ppl say this is the worst in the DT series?!? It’s my favourite for sure
I say thanks to you my brother!

i wonder if that's the correct way to pronounce gilead. i pronounce it same as you.
G. Araujo Gilly-Ad or Gill-eed lol
It's more like "gilly-uhd" or "gilly-odd". It's a transliteration of the Hebrew גִּלְעָד
PS I think it would be nice if in the movie he finally chooses to save Jake and this and only this finally breaks his cycle!
...yep....doesn't seem like he sacrifices Jake this time.

You need to read and review Christine by Stephen King👌👌
Its good as hell
This is more of a recap or a summary than a review.
But not for you gunslinger
😂👏👏
Revised version is 🗑
You really should get your facts straight before you proceed with attempting to make an accurate review.
Stephen King was not 19 when he wrote these stories. He was 23 when he started the first story, The Gunslinger, and didn't finish it until he was 30. These 5 connected stories (not 4) were all published in the Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction. Here are the dates and years they appeared:
"The Gunslinger" (October 1978)
"The Way Station" (April 1980)
"The Oracle and the Mountains" (February 1981)
"The Slow Mutants" (July 1981)
"The Gunslinger and the Dark Man" (November 1981)
Also, it's a good idea to look at the camera on your computer instead of at yourself so the viewer feels that you're looking at them and not to the right of them.
Well thanks for playing.
+scott crocker dude you're talking out of your ass, stephen king said in an interview that he wrote the first one when he was nineteen, he just didn't publish for a couple years.
