    Just made a mini coin purse version having watched both your tutorials Lou. Thank you so much. It turned out perfect! My top tips for anyone attempting one are:
    1. For the ruching/gathering, first tie off one end of your thread before pulling to make life easier and help get the stitching/gathering even.
    2. I hand-tacked the curved edges together after carefully pinning to make machine-stitching this tricky part a little easier and quicker (mainly because I got fed up of getting stuck by my pins and swearing lots 😂) 💝 Loved the tutorials. Thanks so much for posting these.

    That's amazing! I bought the same purse frame ages ago, and I've been looking for tutorials on how to make a purse like this all around. This tutorial is really clear and well-explained. Thank you!

    Hi Lou what a fabulous tutorial thank you. I have always avoided these bag frames as I had doubts that I could make a really neat and secure purse using one. However your tutorial was so comprehensive and clear I might have a go, I know I have a couple of frames somewhere in my sewing stash. Your finished purse was really beautiful and could be used for any occasion. Thank you Lou for your generosity in sharing your talent with us all, I really appreciate it. I hope you don’t mind me saying but your hair looks absolutely stunning, you really suit that style. Have a wonderful week ahead Lou, big hugs and loves xxxxxxx Dorothy 🙋🏻❤️😘🌟

      Thanks so much, I do hope you give it a go. There are lots of ways to make the pattern too, mine was a bit more complicated than necessary putting pleats in it but I really like the way they look.

    Thank you for this fantastic video.! I love it!! I have an antique silver plate frame purse with the exterior part of the bag attached. Unfortunately, the lining is missing. I will use your video to create a new silk lining with the cotton lining and interfacing idea. I think I will have to sew the lining to the bag fabric on the inside and then cover my stitches with some kind of seam tape? Or leave the stitches to show? Any ideas or suggestions you may have ? Thanks again.

    • @LouDavis
      @LouDavis  3 роки тому

      This sounds like a beautiful project. I think your ideas are good. You may be able to use a very small stitch in your outer fabric - as if you were sewing a hem - and make the stitches almost invisible. I don't know how hard that would be with your bag though.

    Hey Lou! I found your 2017 video first and watched that one and then found this one and watched this one as well. This one was certainly clarified a bit more for me. I'm a visual learner so every little detail in the process helps. Thanks for doing this second video. Question: I plan to use a medium to heavy weight upholstery fabric on my bag. That being said, I don't want to pleat it or gather it at the bottom of the bag. My question is how do I alter the pattern you made to not include the pleats or the gathering at the bottom of the bag?

    • @LouDavis
      @LouDavis  4 роки тому

      Hi Robert! To do it without the pleats, just use the pattern I made for the lining and interlining. You won't need an interlining if your fabric is medium to heavyweight, I only used that because the silk needed some structure. Also you can make the bottom of the bag any shape you like, it doesn't have to be square.

    can you glue the bag to the frame first, then sew the holes? Also, can I make this a little larger by making it longer and wider at the bottom?

    • @LouDavis
      @LouDavis  Рік тому +1

      You can get glue-in frames like this if you want to avoid sewing, but I didn’t choose to knowing how clumsy I am with anything gluey! If you used glue before sewing, it might be difficult to sew through the set glue. I’ve not tried either so can’t say for sure. You can make the bottom of the bag whatever size and shape you like.

    This was a fabulous tutorial :) I do historical costuming, so I have lots of fancy cabbage that is almost certainly destined to be clasp bags. Which brand of embroidery thread did you end up using?

    • @LouDavis
      @LouDavis  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks so much, I hope you enjoy making your bags! I think the thread I used in the end was dmc. I first tried some I'd got from a very cheap multi-pack but they kept breaking so gave up with that!

      Hello, try going to the settings feature at the bottom of the screen in the right hand corner (I hope you can see that at the bottom of the tutorial). The settings feature looks like a wheel with a little circle at the center. Press that and then you'll see an option called playback speed. Press it and then you'll have the choice of speed you would like to listen at. If you already tried that and it's not working then I apologize for butting in - but just in case, try that and see if it works for you.
