AVA 95L MOUNTED SIDEWAYS

Had a viewer reach out to me today asking whether the AVA Gear 95L storage box could fit mounted sideways onto the Front Runner Slim Sport roof rack on my Hilux.
This particular viewer had concerns with the upcoming installation of a Roof Top Tent, that will overhang the rear portion of his roof rack. This most definitely would interfere with the length of the 95L box in the front-to-back install method.
Mounting the 95L box sideways is an option.
The box is listed on the AVA Gear website as L1200mm x W480mm x H280mm. However, the bottom of the box roughly measures 1155mm long. This is a critical piece of information for mounting with the 95L Box Mount brackets, as this measurement is roughly the minimum distance you will need to have between the brackets to secure the box down properly with the latches.
Mounting the box sideways using the box with 95L mount brackets is possible, securing the bracket to the crossbar slot. However, keep in mind due to the length of the box and bracket mount, this will put the bracket slightly outside of each side of the Front Runner SlimSport rack, but not outside the side profile of the vehicle.
Another alternative for securing the box is by using the 95L T-Shape Lock bracket which hard mounts the box using the rack T-Slots by dropping the T-Bracket through the inside side-slots of the box.
Although this method would not work using the end slot positions on the box, there are two T-shaped bracket slot positions on each lengthwise side of the box. These slots may allow for mounting using these brackets. Still, please see the video showing rough measurements between two center T-Slots on the Slim Sport rack measuring approximately 400 mm from center to center across three crossbars.
The 95L T-shaped Bracket slot on the case itself, center to center has an approximate measurement of 395 mm. There may still be enough play when tightening the T-shaped brackets to the rack to properly secure the storage case. However, I do not personally
own these T-shaped brackets to test properly, I could only measure the box and the T-Slot distance on the Front Runner rack.
The storage box can also be mounted sideways using a standard ratchet/tie-down strap.
In my personal opinion, having either the 83L/95L box mounted sideways on the roof rack is not an ultimate mounting position if you do not plan on removing the case when reaching your destination. Only because of the lengthwise orientation of the lid opening which would make removing gear from within the box rather difficult unless the box is completely taken down from the rack.

95Lマウント・ブラケットを使用したボックスの横向き取り付けは、ブラケットをクロスバー・スロットに固定することで可能です。ただし、ボックスとブラケット・マウントの長さの関係で、ブラケットがフロント・ランナー・スリムスポーツ・ラックの両側からわずかに外れますが、車両のサイド・プロファイルの外には出ないことに留意してください。
ボックスを固定する別の方法として、95L T-Shape Lockブラケットを使用する方法があります。これは、T-ブラケットをボックスの内側のサイドスロットに通して、ラックのT-スロットを使用してボックスをハードマウントする方法です。
この方法は、ボックスの端のスロットを使用することはできませんが、ボックスの長さ方向の両側に2つのT字型ブラケットスロットがあります。

@@roaminanjinJust a quick update, in case anyone is interested. If I understand correctly the AVA 95L is an OEM ROAM Rugged 95L. I have ordered the same AVA 95L, but ROAM makes a "Rigid Mount" bracket. Which might fit better on the Front Runner Slimsport. I have ordered a pair of these brackets to use on the back of the case. If the spacing on the Simsport works out, I'll order a second pair for the front. It will take a bit for all the parts to arrive but I'll let you know.
