Update: You guys are right, I completely blanked on the fact that Piccolo’s statue was shattered and regenerated during the Buu Saga. For some reason, I forgot he mentioned it!
Regardless, I still think it stands that King Piccolo was too weak to regenerate anyways AND Toriyama hadn’t thought of the concept yet.
The regenerating does take stamina/ki after all. So ye he probably didn't even have enough left.
Or probably since he is dehydrated in that fight so he can't heal himself maybe

I think King Piccolo was too tired from his battle with Goku since regeneration takes alot of energy from Namekians

Yeah regeneration does take a lot of energy for namekians, but where he's wrong is that they are indeed capable of regenerating internal organs since in the buu saga Piccolo regenerated his entire body from just his brain. But yeah here king Piccolo was tired to even attempt it

I play it off that he didn't know his origins and was the corrupted half of Kami, so the best he could manage were weird freaky slug people until he was about to die and managed to make Piccolo.

id say its due to exhaustion and relatively low battle power. Namekians in DBZ are way ahead of DKP in terms of power and I'd assume regeneration efficiency is linked to battle power

Taking that and the fact that when he first regenerates he mentioned it taking energy. Then you have the many cases where he was nearly killed, it defiantly shows that Energy is related to his regen. Vital organs mean nothing, well besides his brain of course, as long as he has the energy to heal.
If I remember correctly, Piccolo said that he can regenerate any part unless his head is destroyed, like bow Cell can only be killed by destroying his brain.
He didn't survive the androids though

Eh idk about the cells brain thing 🤔 I know he says it but if I’m not mistaken that was an off the cuff plot device Toriyama popped out or a translation error I don’t remember which tbh so it’s definitely a similar thing to piccolo’s regen at least.
@kazuha74 on a way when you combine frieza's survival vs God toppo or even planet namek exploding while his body was already cut in half, Cell would need to be eviscerated like Majin Buu, to be killed.
Regeneration just prolonged so much let alone frieza having a superboss upper limit. I wish ssb vegeta at least shot frieza who takes the earth with him rather than walk slow and slowly charge his blast lol. At least dbz kakarot kept frieza golden for it to be plausible.
Remember: King Piccolo was too old to properly regenerate.
His body was already a dehydrated husk of what it once was, and that's _after_ being granted youth.
He even admitted using his full power (IE: like regeneration) would shorten his remaining life.
Nameks lose a lot of energy regening so it could be argued that given how little energy he had left he didn't have enough to regen or he would also use up all his energy regening

In the buu saga when trunks destroys piccolos stone statue piccolo says he can regenerate anything as long as his head is intact like cell maybe piccolo jr’s regeneration is stronger than king piccolos due to him being more powerful
That’s possible, also if I remember correctly, when Piccolo’s statue shattered, I think both his head and his torso were still intact so it’s still kinda muggy on how far his regeneration goes. He’s definitely no Cell, that’s for sure.

Regardless of how broken he was though, the “head being in tact” reasoning still stands I guess. There’s just been a lot of inconsistencies and not enough explanations on the details of Namekian regeneration

As your pin states, yeah the whole Buu Saga things proves that Piccolo really only needs his brain. I think the in-universe reason is really just that it takes a fair bit of energy to do (at least for the power levels at the time). Kind of like how one Tri-Beam / Kikoho could have killed a martial artist, and Tien later on spams those like there is no tomorrow against Cell, then recovers after rest. Piccolo Jr, when he first regenerates his arm shows immense effort being made to do so. By the time Cell rolls around it is more of a minor inconvenience. Demon King Piccolo was low on energy, and a wound of that size would have probably been rough to heal even at full strength. Assuming he did regenerate, I wonder if Yamcha would have killed him? If I remember correctly, they are on their way to fight Piccolo, as they believe basically everyone else has already died, so Yamcha, Bulma, and Tien are the last ones standing. With how exhausted Piccolo is, I could see Yamcha (broken leg or not) having the energy to destroy King Piccolo. The question really being if Yamcha would have given him the time to spawn Piccolo Jr. Outside of that character being missing, that would also mean Kami dies as well. This means tons of characters aren't brought back. Goku would become Kami as advised by Popo (Goku probably would still go to find Kami per Korin's advice as no one really knew that Kami and Piccolo were linked), and he would keep training for some time with Tien as his main rival. Keep in mind, Tien's base tends to keep up with Goku's up until Super. He just tends to lag behind on the masters, so his power sometimes lags a tiny bit. For example. Goku trains for Piccolo Jr and goes from around 300 to 425ish in power level after 3 years of training with Kami. With like 6 months of training with Kami, Tien goes from like 260ish to like 1600ish? My man is insane. I think it would then be Goku and Tien who fight Raditz, as they would maybe be closer being the only two Z-Fighters remaining, and it really is just a matter of creative control on how strong they are. It really depends, if Goku becomes Kami, if he returns for the WMAT and gets engaged to chi-chi (hell, gohan may not even exist in this timeline). Assuming that Goku, Tien, and Popo train together for the 7+ years before the Saiyan invasion begins, I only would assume Raditz goes down without too many issues. The creative liberty you have to take here is that Goku and Tien beat Raditz so bad, that Vegeta can't not come see who these Earthlings are. I feel like, with the help of Popo and/or Baba they would both get to train with King Kai without dying (as Goku would be able to travel to the afterlife with others whilst alive as Kami). They would get to train with King Kai. Maybe make some offhanded mention about how Krillin, Roshi, and Chiaotzu should have been there to train since their deaths, but were lost in purgatory. King Kai would have a chat about the dragon balls. He would connect them to the wish orbs and track down Namek. They would send Bulma and Yamcha first in case Goku and Tien won't be able to stop the saiyans. I have just realized I am rambling and I shall leave it there. Just kind of something I came up with whether it be accurate or not. Just typed it for fun. Okay, thanks, byeeeeeeeee.

the concept of Namekians actually wasn't introduced that much later. In the Manga, the jump from Dragonball to Z was week to week, so end of DB to Raditz showing up and identifying Piccolo as a Namekian wasn't that long

Also as we see in the earlier arc regeneration takes a great amount of energy after which the person sometime is even incapable of moving specially in the case of king piccolo who was already worn off from the battle against goku and healing an injury like that does take way more energy then just simple hand regeneration
Yeah, he would've been tired as all hell, probably wouldn't even be able to fly afterwards but he might still be in charge if he healed. Although, considering DB characters have shown to be susceptible to weaker means if not focused and aren't OK, perhaps Yajirobe could stab em whilst he's knocked from the fall?
I think it might be because he knew that by regenerating, he would lose power and decided to just have Piccolo Jr fight instead of him losing power over and over.

I think he could have regenerated the whole only because when piccolo was turned to stone and Goten and trunks broke his statue sent piccolo told them I can pretty much regenerate as long as my head stays intact
I want the timeline where King Piccolo rules Earth and started training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber in the event that someone else (Raditz) would eventually show up.

I’m the Buu saga piccolo said something along the lines of “I can regenerate as long as my head isn’t damaged”
I think I like the idea that Piccolo knew if he regenerated he was still far too weak and so decided to reincarnate into a new piccolo that would be stronger strong enough to keep the rule on the planet, almost like an early version of Namekian fusing but without fusing creating a new life to imbue your power into
I think he just didn't know. As it seems Kami and king piccolo just didn't know how to because he never fought that much, while piccolo junior knew because he always caused trouble.
It's possible, but considering Piccolo Jr. is basically a reincarnation of King Piccolo, you'd think he would have some of the same knowledge as his father and regeneration would be something he knew about.
But you never know
I disagree if king piccolo did regenerate the stamina drain would be enough to knock him out, and if he did this instead of giving birth yamcha would have actually killed him
Its possible the degree to which they can regenerate or change their body shape might be tied to how strong they are. By all accounts regenerating takes lots of energy.
Two things:
1. The main reason is that instead of regenerating, he reincarnated into a completely new body. This gave him the opportunity to become stronger and get his revenge although he ultimately failed when Goku defeated him again in the tournament arc.
2. We actually have seen it, Piccolo regenerated from nothing but a head in the Buu Saga when his statue was destroyed following Dabura's defeat.

Piccolo got downed by a small beam from freeza through the chest so a person sized whole would definitely do the trick.

Piccolo was being strategical about it, choosing to "die" now, and reincarnate into a stronger being that could hopefully defeat Goku/anyone stronger than Goku in the future

Piccolo fought android 17 for hours, who doesn't tire at all. And even then, had to fight cell and used up all his energy for a light grenade attack. He got blasted in the chest and was able to regenerate.

I like to think regeneration is a conscious effort. King Piccolo lost consciousness / died too quickly to regenerate

Seeing as Piccolo was able to regenerate his entire body back from just his head. It probably was that Toriyama hadn't decided what direction to take king Piccolo in as anatomy wise. Like it wasn't confirmed he was anything other than a demon entity. The alien aspect hadn't come into realization yet. Though it's also possible being devided from his other half. Demon king Piccolo might not have been completed enough to pull off the full regeneration trick. However, abilities seem to come and go in Dragonball history. Like I haven't seen giant size Piccolo more than once after the earth world tournament. Or the ability to spawn new minion life forms since king Piccolo.

@@GMS-ChaabarYakalATL How so? Piccolo still doesn't spawn minions. Even though that was a attribute of his giving to Cell. And he hasn't become -hadn't become- giant size to compete with the Saiyan great ape forms. Like in the earlier dragon ball series when he introduced the form only once.

I’m pretty it’s because of the battle fatigue that he could ever regenerate but be very weak or spit out an egg to make a new son who could one day hopefully avenge him

Most likely it comes from his stomach and takes some time to make but if it senses that they are in full time danger it shoots up which was why when the egg came out we saw king piccolo troubling to shoot it out of his throat, which only happened due to velocity in the throat. If it didn’t take time he could just spawn infinite minions and one shot everyone. And he exploded after, could have been throat and stomach problems from the egg plus the velocity of it shooting times the force of the punch divided by their power levels.
In the Italian version, at some point, it mentioned that the Namekians can regenerate part of the body such arms, ears, legs etc but not vital points. In my opinion the English translation sucks
If Demon King Piccolo regenersted there and then, he would probably collapsed. Namekian regen takes a lot of energy and stamina. Worse yet, since they only drink water, its possible that their life energy is used up to regenerate. That means piccolo could turn old instantly if he doesn't hidrate immidiately. Which is a fun idea
I feel like Piccolo was able to regenerate after turning into a statue was because of his immense reserves of power compared to DK Piccolo at this time (he was also weak from his fight with Goku) Piccolo Jr. is thousands of times more powerful than his father and likely has more ki to assist his regeneration ability. Ki is life energy after all.

I mean, we kind did see vital areas be regenerated after this. One example being Piccolo taking a point blank blast from imperfect cell, and is found by Goku with the area that was hit patched up. Another example recently was in the Tournament of Power, when we see the U6 Namekians get hit with the special beam canon and survive. Granted it was more precise than the other attacks, but they were pretty mobile despite having holes in their chests
Part of me thinks, that because he wasn't fully matured as a Namekian warrior he leaned more towards demon. Using the regeneration uses a lot of power, and piccolo gain that power thru training.
Also, king piccolo is like an old man, and regardless of the fact that he was a very powerful martial artist, the fact that matter is that old age probably had an effect on his ability to regenerate if regenerating, his heart was even possible
Not only did he have a massive hole through his chest but his head was literally separated allthough still attached to the body. In the Buu arc Piccalo stated "As long as my head "which includes his spine" was not damaged he could regenerate". That hole kid Goku made in effect separated his head from body.

When freza attacked piccolo at his chest he didn't regenerate. It shows they can't regenerate all parts of their body.

For a new video: when Piccolo was converted into stone in the buu saga and than trunks broke the statue. Piccolo said as long as his head is intact he can regenerate, but he also know that technique has a limit, that if your power reverses or ki is too low he couldn't and may be that's why king piccolo couldn't regenerate
They can regenerate non-life threatening wounds. Like losing an arm.
A massive hole in the chest take out the heart and would instant kill them. And they wouldn't have the strength to regenerate.
Yeah, that's 1 of 2 ways to stop a regeneration enemy.
Either destroy every last piece of it, or just somehow overtax the healing factor
Gave me an idea that toriyama should have a demon king ark where piccolo regurgitates an egg that is demon king piccolo who has been secretly absorbing piccolos energy and experience in order to kill goku which also explains why piccolo was so willing to help Goku and needs absolutely no explanation from the writers since it was a secret tactic
Another reason he may have not regenerated is because Namekian regeneration takes a decent amount of energy. He might’ve thought his chances of winning were slim with too little energy so he instead used the remainder to create Piccolo Jr
The funny thing is just over a decade later, piccolo jr would regenerate from a similar injury inflicted on him by cell.
Piccolo came back from that with a senzu bean. Different rules

Piccolo jr literally was shattered and came back, his head is the only important part unless he's hit by something like frieza's death beam that's designed to kill no matter where it hits
Actually we have piccolo shot the namekians in the chest and the wounds regenerated even with the holes in the chest
Also after Goku dashed through King Piccolo his entire body exploded, I guess because the strike spread Goku's ki all throughout Piccolo's body to destroy him entirely and that made sure he couldn't regenerate
well youre half right. In the 1980s dragon ball series piccolo jr was already able to regenerate but only because he had the strength too.....where as king piccolo already had been drained from the fight with goku....plus hes old as heck.
Actual reason is King Piccolo, although having his youth restored, only had a finite amount of energy. His servants note this when he summons his offspring. Restoring his youth doesn't fix that.
Other reason is Akira hadn't thought of it yet...
I dunno why, but I read this as "What if King Piccolo reincarnated?" and almost thought it was gonna be him and Raditz teaming up or something. I dunno, i just misread.
Maybe namekians have like a "regeneration membrane" or something like that in near their heart so he wasn't able to do it (or maybe he was so tired from the Battle than he couldn't)
Actually I assumed it was because King Piccolo was a Dragon clan Namekian which have never been shown to regenerate. Only Warrior clan members have shown such abilities. EG. The Namikains on Namek should have regenerated from getting necks snapped and such. But they did not.
Nail and Piccolo Jr are the only Warrior clan members from Universe 7 we know about basically meaning only they can do so
Neck snapping kills you? If someone snaps your neck you are instantly dead how the hell are they SUPPOST to regenerate. And only them? I don’t remember much but im pretty sure kami, king piccolo, nameless namekian,ect.
I think the reason king piccolo didn't regenerate was mainly because he was a split from a Namekian from the dragon clan.
I see the exlerated regeneration a warrior ability. While possible for non warrior members, i picture would be slower and take possibly weeks to regrow an arm.
Either that or king piccolo was just so old that he couldnt do it. He couldve went to school with grand elder guru for all we know 😂

that's right. the only possible explanation is Demon king Piccolo is too tired to regenerate and saves the rest of his powers to make his clon which is Ma junior or Piccolo Jr. , I think Namekians can regenerate almost every body as long as the head or brain is not damaged. if I'm not mistaken. Piccolo explained it to Goten and Trunks after they accidentally broke his stoned state.

i think the organ argument is probably the one that makes the most sense. piccolo was killed twice by getting shot through the heart by frieza. i could be convinced he would’ve been too tired to regen on namek but in resurrection f he was fighting foot soldiers
