This was one of the best ones yet, blown away by the quality, detail, and through working knowledge. This is something I could literally see on major networks like CNN.
As a skyscraper nerd, I have been a fan of this channel for years. I love how the quality of the content has not only improved but evolved. B1M is truly a treasure.
It's a great channel, but he let himself down in this video by trying to sell us the most blatant hoax in history, as real. That face he pulled at 9:14 is just embarrassing. Freem&s0n Fred shouldn't have included that.
How many skyscrapers does NY need? I mean most of them are half empty, nobody can even live in NY coz of the insane property prices that are kept artificially high for both residents as well as businesses, the city is a cesspool of crime, murder and woke mentally insane people and politics, most of the working class and rich are moving out as a result of it and the city is basically an empty shell of it's former self. It's not anymore the place like Home Alone 2 where you want to spend your vacation as Kevin McCallister.
How versatile is a foundation that has not been built on? Will the foundation be good forever? Does it constrain the building that can be built on top of it?
Even as a New Yorker who was an adult when 9/11 happened I had no idea the status of the WTC unfinished buildings. Thank you for shedding a light on this story. The level of detail and journalism you put into your videos is paramount.
@Kissvag Ina How do you know what I have done or not done? I kept up with it for years, just not lately, after a while it faded away into the background like most things do in ones life.
Rebuild was ruined ages ago by the slick, generic Freedom Tower. And one always should keep in mind that Twin Towers occupancy was less that 50% in 2001, i.e. replacing the square footage lost made zero commercial sense.
I think redesigning the lower levels is crucial and I'm glad they're doing it. But topping it with slanted diamonds would be SO much cooler than flat roofs
Sure they can There’s a construction called retrofitting or you can do a skinny building that can look “mistakenly” like twins but not actually being twins if that makes sense so where we could have twin shadows casting in the city and also Make it look like twins from facing the site from jersey
As a kid, I'd always open Google earth and explore New York. I'd always follow the news on the reconstruction of the WTCs. I still do actually, sometimes. Thank you B1M for keeping on fueling my love of New York and skyscrapers.
Funny because when I was a kid before the internet I acquired a map of NYC from an old National Geographic magazine and explored the streets. Huge NY obsession as a kid.
When I was a kid I dreamed that there was something like the internet, I had to look up pictures of city skylines in dictionaries and other books. Made drawings of the skylines from the books.
It’s easy to explain the diamonds, it Has to be, the chosen people control the diamond industry, why not flaunt it! I would not buy a diamond if my life depended on it. A piece of glass can be made to look better
@@TheAnnoyingBoss a diamond isn't nearly indestructible it's actually quite easy to shatter a diamond. Hitting it with a hammer can probably shatter it
@@huwdte technically you could shatter a diamond with a hammer but it is not easy it is actually very difficult and in most cases it won't do anything. Too shatter it you need a diamond with inclusions and internal weakness and you have to hit it with enough force and in the right spot for it to shatter. You're on the internet bro... use it 🤷♂️
Nothing can top the original trade centers. You could literally see them from anywhere in New York and I wish they would make these two towers the same way so that you could see them from all over the place in New York City.
Imagine how traumatic that would be for the families of the victims. Or even for the survivors. That might be one of the underlying issues for why it's not being done.
From someone that worked the sight I can tell you we have had mixed emotions on if and how it should have been built. The original to us just means resiliency and strength. That even though we have fallen we came back up the same but stronger. But then we also feel we need to leave well enough alone. So many souls are there that must be left alone to rest and realize that it’s where we go to remember all whom perished there.
Fascinating complex current topic + captivating footage + British accent + Fred Mills in a tight black tee shirt + excellent script + Fred Mills’ biceps = a superb video.
I remember researching the WTC site as a kid around 10-11 years ago. Nice to see 1WTC is now complete. Crazy to think neither 2WTC or 5WTC haven't even left the ground yet.
It is a difficult situation to be in. Apart from these 4 stages, the WTC also faces the public eye. We're talking about buildings being built on the sites of pain, horror and sorrow. Anything less than perfect can be disastrous and that's not a good position for anyone to find themselves in.
You could have just rebuilt the Twins, taller, stronger and safer somewhere else on the 16 acre site. But it just ended up in a debacle due to megalomaniacs like Silverstein and the Port Authority wanting it "their" way.
Personally I feel like the diamond is the best, it compliments 1wtc well. It's striking and pops out of the skyline in a similar way I think the twin towers did. It's kinda sad that construction on this site is still unfinished after 17 years. I wasn't around when the original towers were destroyed, but I still feel like it's important that this site is completely rebuilt.
The bad thing is that Companies in Finance and Law Firms are not interested in the building. That leaves us the Tech, Media and E-commerce companies who don't like the 2006 Norman Foster design.
Tremendous production quality B1M! Thank you for striking a good balance between your signature humor, information and respect for a construction site that is, for many Americans like me, still a painful thing to think about.
The diamond columns are in my opinion the best looking design. I remember visiting ground zero right after the memorial was open and while 1WTC was still being built. We got a private tour of 3WTC and there was a large model of how the site may look, and it had the diamond columns and I was in awe at how elegant 2WTC would look like. Still the best option in my opinion if they decide to go forward.
Concur. The original design for the new 2 World Trade Center still looks the best…BY FAR. It’s a very elegant, modern design that is timeless in it’s design. It would never look old.
Before the 2WTC design was released, and before the freedom tower design was chosen, I drew a really similar design for a high school assignment, except it was 3 diamonds, and linked like the Petronas towers. I was so happy when I saw the 4 diamond design, and so disappointed that it still hasn't been built
I love the new style of docs and how you guys are tackling projects as well as the ethical dilemmas that surround them. All wicked cool and so important for modern city planning and architecture!
Been watching this channel for a little over 5 years. Looking back, it’s crazy how much production value has increased. Truly one of your best pieces so far!
I was the Local 15d Party Chief who laid out the foundation for 2 WTC. I was working for Halmar International at the time. We did all the pile caps, grade beams, anchor bolts, and the shear walls below sidewalk grade. We had started doing the core foundation as well. Before that I was also the head Party Chief working for Yonkers/Tully/Pegno that did the PATH Train Restoration project at Ground Zero after 9/11. We built the temporary station right on top of the old station to reopen the tunnels going into Jersey. I remember when we got down to the original footings and removed the old steel base plates, the original surveyor's centerlines were still visible. I hit those centerlines within an 1/8". It was a great relief for me to be able to "check" into something that was original to the site layout at the very bottom of the pit.
Could engine fuel burning on top floors bring the whole megastructure down in a few seconds to the point of absolute obliteration, leaving only fine rubble? (and that's including all those beams!) Just curious about the point of view of an expert who was actually there on the building site and who knows his stuff. I understand if you can't be open about it, assuming you still work with the same people.
When UA-cam "started", there was a conversation about how it would substitute TV or legacy media. Prank videos, family vlogs, some of the weirdest challenges, for example, made question this forecast. Then, a channel like this shows up. What a marvelous work of journalism. Congratulations!!
Bottom line. The Twin Towers should have been rebuilt. Donald Trump offered to personally undertake the whole process at his personal expense. That cursed thing does NOT represent freedom. It's threatening, it's ugly and should never have been built. I've seen more uploads calling for rebuilding the Twin Towers than I can count. Putting a spire on it's roof does NOT make it taller than the Twin Towers were anymore than putting the receiving antanna on the roof of the North Tower made her taller than her sister. Instead of rebuilding what belonged there, they made an architectural junk yard out of the city.
I don’t like it. It should be very similar to either the original 2WTC or the current 1WTC to mirror the twin tower silhouette. They could also do an outdoor observation deck on the roof if the go with a different design like the original 2WTC, which 1WTC really lacks.
@@ArkOnUA-camI agree. The site is a memorial so why even make it look different? I like the old one too but I'd like it more if it looks likes that current WTC1
I absolutely love this new format. These new 30 minute episodes definitely take the channel to the next level of reporting. Don’t get me wrong I love learning about the build and seeing Fred get his feet muddy, but knowing the story behind that process makes the actual build (or lack thereof) even more exciting. Well done! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
You thought you could make a whole documentary, put it on UA-cam for free, and we wouldn't notice? Wrong, we noticed and this is a phenomenal research project. Thank you for all the hard work in bringing us these updates-earned a subscriber!
I never understood why 2 World Trade Center can’t just be identical to one. I think it would truly restore the skyline. I don’t know if the foundation could make it look symmetrical or not.
Yeah I agree, I’d personally like that the best. Shit I thought they should just…rebuild the two towers exactly how they were. But I understand why that wasn’t ideal. Second best would be to just…build two identical towers. One with the spire one without. The Diamond one looks heat. But let’s be honest, two identical would be the best looking-in my opinion.
Exactly, it’s a no brainier, 20 years of 3 separate redesigns, and still no anchor tennant. People want a replica of wtc1. The answer is staring them in the face and would be more attractive to tenants.
I don't think they want the appearance of twin towers on the site anymore for obvious reasons. Also, WTC1 has already been designed to symbolically represent the original two buildings, it's supposed to look like the twin towers merged together. Following that design philosophy have a second identical tower makes no sense. It would be like saying "here is where the quad towers used to stand, all 4 of them identical"
Building another set of twin towers would honestly in my opinion show the world that we have not moved on and that we still want things as they were, I think 1 WTC is fine as it is and the diamond tower would complement it but that's my opinion on it.
These programs are as informative as they are professionally produced - and by a content creator who looks like a special forces officer. I’ve learned a great deal about a subject I knew little about but have always found fascinating.
Ny needs no new buildings for offices esp now that such a larger portion of office workers refuse to return to working 5 days a week. As a NYC resident I can ‘t see how NY will recover until that changes? So many empty businesses these days.
As a NY'er who, while very young, had family friends directly affected, I really appreciate the way in which you have depicted the events of 9/11. I hate seeing the photos, and worst of all the videos of the event itself. Sometimes the subject needs to be talked about, but there's no need to glorify it. This is one of the most respectful depictions I have ever seen. Thank you. P.S. Informally, the name 'Freedom Tower' has heavy association with Bush. We call it 'One World Trade'.
I love to watch it every few years. Remember the fun time sitting in a beer bar in Thailand and seeing USA gets kicked in the Arse. I’m an atheist German by the way but revenge for Vietnam and Grenada
Just went to NYC recently for the first time. As a European, I'm forever struck by its formidable verticality. Your channel helps me heal the traveller blues :P edit for the comments - I know Europe isn't a country, but it's my cultural and political identity nonetheless :)
@@ivy_47 compared to Asia and North America that’s not a lot. I said “very little” meaning not a lot in comparison to other wealthy parts of the world. IE the US Canada Japan China etc.
@@seanpruitt6801 Yeah that’s because European cities have centuries old city centres. Most cities have skylines with huge cathedrals and buildings from the Middle Ages. Towers would absolutely not fit into that.
I wish they would have done the original rendition with a series of buildings in a circle around the site, it would have looked very classy, paying respect to the site, yet subconsciously sending the message for generations that this site has extremely special meaning as it interferes with Manhattan’s classic grid layout.
Your devotion in creating these high quality videos of different structures is just phenomenal. It just gets better and better, from the various topics of a building, to the history it's being told connected back. Exceptional. The editing is great, I always love seeing those different views of the buildings since it's only possible to capture them on a drone.
These videos are always so well done. Excellent research, fantastic video editing and cinematography, and a (very handsome and buff) narrator with a perfect voice for documentaries. I really appreciate the consistent quality and approachability of B1M videos! Keep it up Fred and all the other producers!
What a very interesting video, and I'm not even into construction, but I love it when people, like your good self and production team, explain how things work or are created. UA-cam has been suggesting some good channels to me recently, and this is one of those ones I didn't know I needed. Thank you, I'm gonna check out your back catalog.
The new 'leaked' design is an improvement from the stairstepping IMO. But the diamond design will always be my favorite. It complements everything so well.
Absolutely incredible documentary. Congrats on the efforts to get this story made by the B1M team. You’re all awesome. I’ve literally been watching this project since the events of 911. I used to follow a webcam and watched all the structures get built unfortunately though I’ve since lost the link. I will continue to follow the ups and downs of 2 wtc. I loved the original fosters design. Got to be my favourite architectural design company. I can’t wait to see you guys do next.
In 2002, I volunteered and participated in a huge citizen meeting at the Javitz center regarding what people wanted on the site. It was an amazing and humbling experience. Each table of participants was led by a professional facilitator and a scribe. I was lucky enough to do both roles during the day. There were about 8 or 10 potential site plans that each table voted on. The pain and emotion at each table was palpable. I was very honored to have been able to participate
Participation in an event that Produces nothing is not my idea of Progressive thinking. Too many people involved in the Planning will Provide too many Perspectives & Possibilities to Pursue any Potential Progress. I'm a wordsmith, by the way....just practicing my own profession as a scribe of sorts. But the Premise holds true...Too many chefs spoil the cuisine, & too many architects can destroy the vision of one designer. When we stop trying to compete on the world stage; & INSTEAD focus on what's valuable & vital here, now, in this present age, at this point in time... ...then we'll accomplish so much more than "ANY #" of CORP board meetings that are rich in "CONVERSATION" but poor in actual "COMMITMENT" TO A CAUSE There are too many "CONVERSATIONS" being had by the likes of Kamala Harris...she's constantly wanting to convene a conversation...real results are not on the agenda...only "CONVERSATIONS" where the facilitator says "Let's Talk..." about this situation. Same is true with CORP entities who want their name on the latest innovation in building design...they all want their legacy to be... "I PLAYED A PART IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF THIS BEAUTY" People of all genders, races, religions or professions want to be known for the "BIGGEST EDIFICE, OBELISK, OR PHALLIC SYMBOL": Hence the "NUMBER" of stories (as in inches or victories or cars in one's collection) is vital to the design of a power structure on the stage at hand. Instead of branching out on their own and doing some real good...TODAY...they all dream of the day when the plaque is hung in it's place of prominence and they can declare their work is done...after 25 years. In the meantime...all those "low income" folks who could have been dwelling in an older building, but one of pragmatic use today...wait, and wait, and die, and wait some more...as their children grow up on the streets waiting for some CORP BOARD to come to consensus and "START" building a "work of art" that is designed with themselves in mind. All the while touting their objective as "LOW INCOME HOUSING"... ...words alone are worthless in the lives of those whose rely on them to be true. Let's start really developing our communities...Community Development isn't all about CORP/Commercial needs..it's about the whole of the community who resides within it's COOPerative boundaries.
Thank you for sharing. I had family members who worked in the old-World Trade Center 4 Building many years ago. I miss the older buildings that were there in the 1970s of this great city!
It’s so upsetting to see that 21 years later, the legendary wtc project is still not complete, but at the positive side, maybe it means that the architectural community needs more time to establish what they want/can do in wtc 2 and 5, and maybe change a lot of plans for the better regarding the extra space
B1M has high production values and a cinematic narrative that helps the layman to grasp the magnitude of these mega projects. I appreciate the buffed English architect dude. He is the Anglo chad who clearly really loves the lore of the skyscraper, as a measure of a society's vigor and commitment to the future. Made me subscribe!
Almost too much cinema? One of the sections is edited masterfully. It was a scene right out of fiction. The scene where Lady Liberty is looking at "the towers" (9.00) is not historically accurate. Lady Liberty looks back to her home. Should a "journalistic style" station have creative license? If so wouldn't that make them story-tellers not reporters? That would then undermine all of the factual contents of a video. It does appear to be a computer model, no face, and the head and crown are just blegh. The jury is out and on holiday for now.
@@james-faulkner "historically accurate?" That implies that sometime since then, construction workers decapitated her and rotated her head a different way!
@@bigballz4u Perhaps I was not clear in what I meant by historically accurate. The footage is done completely in a computer. She never faced the the double buildings. If you pause the video when you can see her crown and head are not rendered very well either. Oh and they have pulled her head off for repairs. They didn't 'decapitate' her because she isn't alive. They did pull it all the way off and set it on the ground though. I hope that clears it up for you so you understand what the definition of 'historically correct' is and how it is used by society. So my interrogative still stands. How much of their factually based story should be dismissed off hand if they are will to fabricate footage just to have a half-assed video. It compromises their journalistic integrity. They are reporting facts, if they don't keep it factual it becomes a fictitious programme.
Well done for the effort on this video. I'm so glad I only design extensions, individual houses and small residential estates. So much less hassle and no political issues...unless a proposal is next to an MP's property of course.
Such a dedicated channel, you do a great job at reporting things that go unreported and unnoticed as well as great at investigations. It's easy to see why you have had success. I genuinely find this interesting.
I swear Fred is Morpheus and the B1M is the red pill. This new direction of the documentaries is just fantastic. This feels like a BBC Earth special but for construction.
I loved what you said about the struggles of putting these structures off the ground. The World Trade Center construction was problematic af, with Rockefeller killing off Radio Row to make way for the complex. A lot of people lost their business, were never properly compensated and were so disappointed they died a few years after. I love the idea of the twin towers, but am appalled by how easy it was for someone else’s American dream to destroy millions of others due to influence and money. I wish “progress” wouldn’t come at the expense of people.
A lot of people loved their business, were never properly compensated for what you said and so put off by putting themselves in the ground. I'm not a builder or in the construction industry but these videos are so well done and understandable that I become enthralled with the information and storytelling. Thanks for this from the US!
I like watching B1M videos, but at the beginning of this video, I thought, "There's not much demand for office space anymore. Why not just make the two remaining towers residential ones?!" Then, came the last portion of the video at 25:05.
Another incredibly well done video. A big 'thank you' for using only audio of the attacks and not video. 21 years later, and that video is still so hard to watch.
Always enjoy these videos. This one really brought home all the difficulties in building skyscrapers, not just architecture and engineering, but finance, politics, etc. Thanks!
And brought me home as a pilot that avoids buildings and terrorists. It's a tough job But somebody has to do it. I kinda think of myself and fellow pilots that avoid these situations ..well I guess you can say we're like Angles and we're just doing our jobs...if we get you on the ground safely suffice to say. Like guardian angels. Can I get an amen
Ney York was an amazing experience. Only been once. Had a vibe that I wanted more of. Living in the city blows my mind with the cost of living. Lots of respect for all the people that make it work. Hope to take my family back there and let them feel all that energy.
Sometimes developers don't buy the land until the feasibility study proves the project will be profitable. As an architect, I did a lot of feasibility studies for clients who are just exploring how much lettable area you can get from the site.
As a guy who absolutely loves skyscrapers and construction, I appreciate this video so much! I wish cities like Atlanta & Dallas would have the same mindset of NYC & Chicago developers to only build high. Seems like the days of office leasing is no longer when it comes to skyscrapers, so it's only appropriate to build supertall residential towers these days!
Mixed use is an imperative for the future of densely populated cities. In finance and tax policies we devalue group ownership of large skyscrapers. The "affordable housing" should include condos that owners have to occupy or sell. Renting affordable housing puts people on a financial trendmill. Billionaire's row is an abomination of broken capitalism that seems to over serve the 1%.
Excellent video and a touch of class by not showing the 9/11 footage, just the audio. I found that far more respectful to those who were so tragically lost and also to those who loved them. You showed a level of decency that many could learn from.
I remember being in the theatre watching Madagascar 3 with my family. There’s a scene that had the original design of the new buildings in the background and I said “Oh wow, they added the World Trade Center…” as the designs had recently been made public. Thank you for this video, I was curious as to why some of those buildings didn’t go up. Cheers 🥃
The thing is the Twin Towers should have been represented by TWIN TOWERS. That should have been the basic fundamental concept in construction. The original twin towers were two identical buildings side by side, like the Petronas Towers. Imagine two Taipei towers side by side! 🤩 🤩
Bottom line. The Twin Towers should have been rebuilt. Donald Trump offered to personally undertake the whole process at his personal expense. That cursed thing does NOT represent freedom. I love watching the B1M videos, and always learn something from them. Also, I thank you, and think it was very classy, to NOT show the horrific images from Sept 11th. We all know what happened and we don't need to keep reliving that moment in time. Besides, it would take away from your fantastic videos. Keep Up The Good Work
While I understand that the families of those who died may not want to relive the horror, I think it's important to remind everyone else of the reason we can't ever let that happen again. Terrorism is increasingly rising from within and we must continually be on guard. There are supporters of terrorism in the government and we are within an inch of losing our freedoms, democracy, and safety.

The original wtc had seven buildings 1 wtc, 2 wtc , 3 wtc, 4 wtc, 5 wtc, 6 wtc, and 7 wtc. For some reason the new one will have all of them except for 6 wtc so it's 1 2 3 4 5 7
As a Western Canadian, was always fascinated with New Yorks Architecture and was an advocate for WTC 2 to be constructed sooner then later! Hope they will begin construction asap! ❤
I only started watching your videos yesterday... this one is a little older but beautifully edited. Reminds me of Dodford. I wonder if he was ever your editor?
The 1WTC is my favorite skyscraper for many reasons. It has a unique sharp, modern glassy look, and is the tallest building in the USA. I love how the height is 1776 ft which was the year of the founding of our great country. Also the 1WTC roof height is the same as the original towers roof height.
@Jared Plaatsman: Not everyone shares your view regarding 1WTC. Many had wished the twin towers back. Especially with Germans those twins with the surrounding buildings had a deep impact. But it is now as it is. We've got to get over it.
I'm torn between saying it would be better if they'd hit the symbolic height without the spire, and saying the matching roof height is a nice nod to the predecessors.
Excellent video! Another new yorker here, was in the rebuild twin towers camp. Still disappointed that they didn't go that route, but I accepted it when the obvious made it self known. I came to like the "final design " for the site, mostly because of 2wtc and the 4 diamond look, and it's heartbreaking every time they redesign it away from that eye catching iconic shape. Really hated the BIG boring stacked glass boxes, so I guess anything that isn't that is a good thing, maybe.
Sorry if I'm maybe sounding like a dork, but I'd really love it if 1WTC would somehow get a twin, without the spire, of course. I'm really satisfied with 1WTCs design and it brought back the pride and aspirations of NYC, but for me, an official 2WTC twin tower is very much needed for my soul to finally come to terms with what has happened and truly heal. Of course, there will always be scars, but as we, who are still around know to this very day: we will never forget.
Your videos are soooo good. I look forward to them. Every. Week. Also, thanks for NOT showing the Twin Towers being struck, burning or collapsing. As a New Yorker I have to say I highly appreciate that editorial choice-it’s still tooooo painful to see the 9/11 footage of all that trauma. 🧡
I was right about to say the same when I saw your comment. I likely would have downvoted the video and turned it off if they had. The aftermath video was almost too much. It's a tough balance, but I think the channel makers succeeded. 🧡
I concur. I'm not even from NYC and didn't know anyone who died, but I still get really upset and depressed every 9/11 and have had to stay away from the coverage the last few years. It's our generation's Pearl Harbor--but even worse, imo, because it happened to civilians in peacetime. Horrible beyond belief. Happy to just stick to the subject matter here and no bad memories.
I definitely understand that. I’m not even American let alone a New Yorker but after it happened I had nightmares of being trapped in one of the towers. Imagine how someone living it would feel.
Why, Its part of your history, I live in Enschede, A city in the Netherlands where 3 neighbourhoods got destroyed when on 13 May 2000 a complex that was a storage place for fireworks went off, It is very difficult to see but it shows the reality, loss and tradigy while it also shows that we come out of these things stronger.
@@R1ckj333 Yes, it is a part of our history, but a painful part, so not one we want to re-VIEW over and over again. When you take photos and videos at weddings, for instance, you do it so you can again see picture reminders of that happy time. 9/11 was not a happy time. It was traumatic, so I don't want to see unexpected video/photos of that event because it does not bring back good feelings, it brings back heartache. Surely you can understand that. If I choose to watch a video about 9/11, that is one thing. But inserting photos of a burning WTC into a video about architecture and rebuilding the area is wildly unnecessary.
Vacancies will always be a challenge for sjyscraper projects, so maybe its time developers looked at symbiosis: dedicating part of the building to residential apartment use and the rest office space (which admittedly is already done now) or, converting the older buildings to residential spaces, so workers have living quarters much closer to the new skyscrapers that will hopefully house them, even if its only for a few days a week.

I’m surprised there was no mention of the I,pact of the 2008 financial meltdown, or the dramatic increase in remote work after the pandemic. No one should expect anyone to build something that isn’t needed, no matter the design. As for skyscraper housing, the wealthy who could afford that have Hudson Yards and billionaires’ row whose buildings are more half empty. And there was no mention of what “affordable housing” would mean in a building on that sight. Probably would start at $3500 for a small studio.
Such a bummer that it wasn’t built. I always thought the original quad diamond design was the best looking building out of anything they were building down there.

It will be incomplete for the rest of the ages.
probably for the better to be honest, NYC real estate is already way overpriced
I still wished that they made two 112 storied freedom towers (with the current design of course).
Seriously, I was in 7th grade when the towers fell. This is crazy lol

Nothing can top the original trade centers. You could literally see them from anywhere in New York and I wish they would make these two towers the same way so that you could see them from all over the place in New York City.
I have two views of New York in my office - can't see WTC in either of them - it's behind the Empire State so blocked from view.

I feel like Two World Trade would’ve been built faster if it was A. Closer to One WTC and b restored the “Twinning” aspect
It is a difficult situation to be in. Apart from these 4 stages, the WTC also faces the public eye. We're talking about buildings being built on the sites of pain, horror and sorrow. Anything less than perfect can be disastrous and that's not a good position for anyone to find themselves in.

Oh the drama! And what about the bumblebees?
Think about it this way, if you were told on 9/12/2001 that it wouldn’t be rebuilt by 2022…. Everyone would have been outraged.
I prefer there being twins and making a second copy of the original
Tremendous production quality B1M! Thank you for striking a good balance between your signature humor, information and respect for a construction site that is, for many Americans like me, still a painful thing to think about.
The diamond columns are in my opinion the best looking design. I remember visiting ground zero right after the memorial was open and while 1WTC was still being built. We got a private tour of 3WTC and there was a large model of how the site may look, and it had the diamond columns and I was in awe at how elegant 2WTC would look like. Still the best option in my opinion if they decide to go forward.
Totally agree. It gives off a timeless look; even gives me chills of sorts.
Yeah, I like the original 2WTC diamond columns and slanted roof.
I want the original back

One of the best and most comprehensive videos I’ve ever seen on any topic. Amazing work !
Good
Could engine fuel burning on top floors bring the whole megastructure down in a few seconds to the point of absolute obliteration, leaving only fine rubble? (and that's including all those beams!) Just curious about the point of view of an expert who was actually there on the building site and who knows his stuff. I understand if you can't be open about it, assuming you still work with the same people.
Very cool!
It must've been extremely surreal working in the bottom of that pit for the first time
@@earlpipe9713 It was very emotional in the beginning. Even years later it still affects me sometimes.

The original complex was the absolute best and beautiful inside and out it’s so heartbreaking it’s all gone now
Bottom line.
The original was both brutal and beautiful, a truly rare combination, I don't know if many things have attained that perfect balance
The first WTC2 design is unbeatable. Simply amazing. I hope they keep the dimond design.

That building looks super cool
That would be the best solution and keep everyone happy/satisfied imo
I don't think they want the appearance of twin towers on the site anymore for obvious reasons. Also, WTC1 has already been designed to symbolically represent the original two buildings, it's supposed to look like the twin towers merged together.
Following that design philosophy have a second identical tower makes no sense. It would be like saying "here is where the quad towers used to stand, all 4 of them identical"
Building another set of twin towers would honestly in my opinion show the world that we have not moved on and that we still want things as they were, I think 1 WTC is fine as it is and the diamond tower would complement it but that's my opinion on it.
The original diamond design was iconic and hopefully comes back

Yeah that’s because European cities have centuries old city centres. Most cities have skylines with huge cathedrals and buildings from the Middle Ages. Towers would absolutely not fit into that.

There were about 8 or 10 potential site plans that each table voted on. The pain and emotion at each table was palpable. I was very honored to have been able to participate

There are too many "CONVERSATIONS" being had by the likes of Kamala Harris...she's constantly wanting to convene a conversation...real results are not on the agenda...only "CONVERSATIONS" where the facilitator says "Let's Talk..." about this situation.

"BIGGEST EDIFICE, OBELISK, OR PHALLIC SYMBOL": Hence the "NUMBER" of stories (as in inches or victories or cars in one's collection) is vital to the design of a power structure on the stage at hand.

Mixed use is an imperative for the future of densely populated cities. In finance and tax policies we devalue group ownership of large skyscrapers. The "affordable housing" should include condos that owners have to occupy or sell. Renting affordable housing puts people on a financial trendmill. @@cindymckenna9910 I totally get what you mean. Its just nice to see a video regarding the towers that doesn't relive the gruesome tragedy of the day through footage.
@@peeknot9338 But this footage of 9/11 can't be lost no matter what. It's history whether you people like it or not. Already, a video known as "lol superman" which depicts jumpers hitting the concrete has been lost, forever. A piece of human history is lost *forever* thanks to censorship.
I recently moved to New York and I actually live just 2 blocks away from 1WT. I was just thinking the other day “one world, 4 world, 3 world… imagine there was a 2 world?” Interesting to know about 5WT too. I hope I’m able to see the construction of these new buildings soon!
The original wtc had seven buildings 1 wtc, 2 wtc , 3 wtc, 4 wtc, 5 wtc, 6 wtc, and 7 wtc. For some reason the new one will have all of them except for 6 wtc so it's 1 2 3 4 5 7
@@meltedicecreamsandwich because there isnt room on the site for 6 WTC.
This guy speaks the way engineers want to listen, very calm and relaxed
I love B1M documentaries they are always filled many interesting information with such a good quality.
This need to be on TV documentaries channel :3
If you're talking about roof height Central Park Tower and Sears Tower are both taller.
@Jared Plaatsman: Not everyone shares your view regarding 1WTC. Many had wished the twin towers back. Especially with Germans those twins with the surrounding buildings had a deep impact. But it is now as it is. We've got to get over it.
Yeah I don't know about taller but it's big .
Go to 57th Street they've got some big buildings to
I'm torn between saying it would be better if they'd hit the symbolic height without the spire, and saying the matching roof height is a nice nod to the predecessors.
You mean WTC7
such a great video! You guys always manage to spark my interest in things I would have otherwise never thought about
So glad I found this channel!! Thanks for the hard work and detail that go into these videos!!
Same exact exterior to 111+ stories would have been the best, imo. They’d probably do the interior slightly differently, though.
I agree, the Diamond shape Fosters design was THEE best design for 2 wtc. Every other proposition put out just looks average.
So glad I stumbled across your channel the quality of your work is exceptional and the topics are so well researched. Thanks
The issue is I DON’T think anyone wants to live. Anywhere near that site due to 9/11
who wants to live where they work?
@@bsm2001yt or maybe the people that work there don't live in the same building? the first five floors could be office space and the rest accommodations.
Most of the people who can actually afford to live there don't want to.
@@bsm2001yt Everyone who throughout history lived in apartments above their shops. Besides just because it has office space there doesn't mean you have to work there.
You took me on a full journey I didn't expect. Thank you. Incredible work
Such a bummer that it wasn’t built. I always thought the original quad diamond design was the best looking building out of anything they were building down there.
