This is my most requested video, so I hope you guys find this helpful! If you have any more questions, let me know in the comments! I'll try my best to answer them all.
Great video! These tips are super helpful. Thank you for being so open about sharing them.
I miss watching Eric Gordon skate, where i can i find his Instagram ?? you should do some skating with him and your old homies Josh!
The shots of the guy with the coffee in the blue jacket are incredible. Wonderful work that just shows what you can achieve through engagement :)
Much much appreciated! Always cool stumbling into impromptu portraiture sessions when you least expect it.
I really liked those pictures too. Something about that green mail box added a lot to it.
the guy with the coffee in the blue jacket was a great photo. This is a great video.
Hey thank, George!
"Ask and get rejected."
Welcome to my life.
Some great advice Josh!!
“...and you might get wacked...”😂.
👊😉📸
Loved this whole video. Thankyou.
This video was done so well I really enjoyed! I used to watch you when I was younger and it's good to see that you're working hard on your photography now.
I like your good vibes man!! Great work!!
Finally found the channel, I have been searching for long.🤩
The gentleman in the thumbnail looks pretty scary to asked for a photo 😬
what a great video ! all I wanted to do is street photography, hope to see more videos like this. thanks
Perfect timing! Thank you
Just found your channel and it’s so awesome!
Really like your videos, Josh. I love NYC as well and wander and shoot whenever I visit from California. As a wannabe photographer your stuff is very helpful and encouraging. Keep it up!
Mafia picnic I love it..... I enjoy how u try and explain and how to see and approach photography. Keep doing what yr doing
Thanks for the advice 👌🏼
Great shot of the Law and Order guy.
Much appreciated, man! The guy clearly knows how to pose with sheer intensity.
Great shots. Congrats.
Me: Can I take your photo?

Also, that bald headed dude.... u got real lucky finding him. Awesome shot !
Loved the tutorial Josh! I'm just starting to get into shooting photos as I primarily shoot video. I'm gonna try and use some of these techniques while I'm in Europe in a few weeks. Also what font is the one you used for the transitions to each section in the video?
Very helpful video thanks :)
Rad to hear!
Best advice ever lol
Really useful and helpful video, now I just need to be somewhere that's not a small town
Thank you!
I like your style
You should do workshops, you do a great job thank you
All good points, technically and in terms of engaging with subjects -and good advice about Mafia picnics- but what about model releases if you plan on exhibition of your works? and p.s.: How cool is the West Village?
Great video! I am interested in taking street photos and then selling them as stock photos. Do I need to get my subjects' permission to sell those photos? Thanks!
Hey Josh, great tips for street photography. Question: what's that camera strap you're using? Looks very comfortable and versatile, I've been looking for something like that. Thanks
This is a black rapid strap that I really dig. Just linked it in the video description!
Hey Josh, been a long-time viewer, and I was wondering what lens you used?
Thank you for these tips, I've been easing myself into street photography by asking to take pictures of people's car or their pets 😁
Hey Josh...... I like your jacket - lots of pockets. What brand of coat is that? Thanks.
Some sort of Adidas jacket.
@@joshkatz Thanks! Hard to find a jacket that has pockets that you can put stuff in from the top. Those side pockets are never good for keeping stuff in them,
Use your live preview mode on the screen if you have it. That way your not holding it up to your face. Great way for candids.
i think taking candid photos of people when they dont know really captures people in their natural environment. i dont think its that weird if they know or not
Yo Josh! Just clicked your channel again recently, however I THINK I remember you as "enminem"? Or something from maybe 07? Could you clear this up? 😅 love you homie
Haha you got it. Welcome back!
Hashanah yes I remember my first mafia picnicking 😂😂
Josh's ATTITUDE is what makes strangers say OK. if he's an asshole with attitude, no one would let em take photos
"how to nail your confidence"
*three trucks barely passes by and he didn't even flinch*
What do u do if someone ask u to delete the photo if they spot u because personally I would hate it if someone took a photo of me especially if it's posted online without my permission
He legally doesn’t have to. It’s your right to record, take pictures and audio record in a public place.
Legally, you're in the clear, but you have to make the judgment call. If the shot's no good, I always honor them and delete it. If I think I have something, it really depends on my mood and how polite the person is.
why no more skating :(
that's interesting ! hope you don't get into too much trouble haha
“Mafia picnic...” ? 😂🤣
You nailed it when you said it takes CONFIDENCE, and you have plenty of that..GOOD WORK!
Oh, My! I sure don’t want to go to any mafia picnics! Whacked? I really don’t like that idea. Lol. What holidays do they get together for at the park, because I might, uh... well, fuhgeddaboutit...
i ctrl+ f d to find Michael Cera comment,I guess only I see it
First step to city photography: a beautiful city
Nice, i hope we could get in contact. I would like to meet you.
Would you ever consider posting another day in the life ?
You sound and look just like Alan Arkin
bro.
Oh boy...
I need that intro song!
Somebody help please 😂
Adrian Ivan - No one else (deep Mix)
@@kiraa.3738 Are you sure? I can't find this melody there..
@@vojta854 oh I'm sorry I just used Shazam and thought it would be right. The description says its from Lakey inspired on Soundcloud but I cant find the Song there🤷
@@kiraa.3738 Yeah, I tried Shazam too. 🤷♂️
i used to be terrified, now it is second nature
If it is STAGE ain’t Street Photography.
You can take portraits on the street, but that doesn’t make it street photography. There’s a reason is so difficult to come out with good shots.
And to all those who do the “Rude camera in your face move” they should be ready to being punch. They give photographers a really bad name. Spray and pray technic is NOT creative and isn't made by the skill, is made by luck. And wasn't that the reason you want it to shoot in the first place, to be creative?
Good edit video BTW, keep it up
If you take photos of somebody without asking, isn't that like a violation of their privacy?
If you are in a public space there is no "expectation of privacy".
Not legally
But morally or socially, kind of
If someone was taking photos of me without asking I would definitely count that as a violation of my privacy but I am aware they wouldn’t be breaking any laws
Every country has different laws on street photography, but it's perfectly legal throughout most of the US. However, some people can see this as a violation of privacy, which is why your attitude going into it is super important.
Yeah. Eventhough it might not be illegal, they can still punch you in the face for being obnoxious... so just gauge your environment..
I'd say just ask especially if ur posting online because that could put the stranger in danger incase someone online see it that shouldn't I know if someone took a photo of me without me permission I would be very unhappy because I hate photos and I hate knowing that someone could post something online without my permission
Rick Rubin @8:13
Follow them from behind 🤨
How many times you been punched? ‘Legal in the USA’ doesn’t exactly equal ‘ethical’
Still is creepy
