It was the first time I I heard this Nocturne ad it literally blew me away… last week I went to Warsaw and visited Chopin’s museum. It seems that Maestro Seymour is bringing the genius to life again.
Recently, my mom who is a pianist gave me a book to read titled "With Your Own Two Hands." translated in Korean by her teacher Baek Nak Jeong. I was so happy to see that book because I was so into your videos about music even though I am a violinist. And When I have flipped the cover, there was your sign to my mom. I assume her teacher got the signature from you for my mom. I was just so deeply touched as if I have found a massive treasure boxes. My daughter is now studying violin at a art middle school here in Korea and I hope one day she will read this book written by her grandmother's teacher's teacher and understand all the depth in the book about music and human being.
My dear 김소연 I was very moved and impressed with your note. Since I look upon S. Korea as my second home, I am so grateful that my book is translated into your language. It will explain to you why music study and performance are so important. The main reason is that it affects your entire life. Thank you for writing to me, and affectionate greetings from, Seymour
Dear 김소연, I was deeply moved by your letter, I see that you understand the true thesis of my book WITH YOUR OWN TWO HANDS. Through the process of practicing and performing we develop our emotional, intellectual and physical worlds in greater depth than would ever occur with other studies. The result is that music study not only makes us better musicians, but more importantly, better people. Warm regards to you and you mom. Seymour
I typically hear this nocturne played much more lively. Maestro Bernstein brings a nostalgia and introspection to it that is quite apt, in my opinion. Superlative playing of this lovely nocturne.
Yes, Leo, everyone plays this Nocturne faster. I took the slow tempo from the chordal hymn-like section. So happy you approve of it. Thank you. Seymour
As someone whose family has had Tally as our piano tuner for years, and who has started tuning pianos myself, I can attest to the fact that she is indeed very good. Thank you for sharing such beautiful playing, Seymour, on a freshly-tuned instrument.
SO WONDERFUL!!!!! Thank you for my favourite Chopin and for an excellent performance, I discovered your channel, because I've noticed your interesting comment after an excellent performance at Wigmore Hall of Maestro Mr.Leon McCawley, an English outstanding pianist, my best regards from Poland! Joanna
Dear Seymour, It isn't often (if ever) that a pianist gives such credit to their piano tuner! Tali uses much the same technique that I employ as a fellow piano tuner-technician. Her grading of major tenths where the tremolo increases in speed when ascending the keyboard is superlative. Way too many tuners tend to tune the unichords and bichords in the bass too sharp. This slows down the tremolo of major tenths significantly and all but destroys the proper scaling and potential beauty of the piano in question. I grew up in Queens and started tuning my own piano from the age of 15 (I'm now 67) under the mentorship of my uncle who worked as master craftsman and concert tuner at the Steinway factory in NYC. I became a professional piano tuner-technician at the age of 17 after gaining a wealth of knowledge from my uncle. I never (in fact, I refuse to) rely upon electronic tuning aids in my work. I only set A to 440 and exclusively use my ears for the rest. I ask colleagues who insist upon using these devices what they would do if their device failed. That question usually leaves them flabbergasted! I compared the most expensive strobe tuning aids against my ears to find that my ear yields, without question, superior results every single time. Besides that point, relying upon electronic tuning aids makes one's ear very lazy. Without realising it, the piano tuner becomes dependent upon their devices. It's so refreshing to see a concert pianist such as yourself having such a comprehensive knowledge of piano technology. It would be a musical utopia if every concert pianist took the time that you obviously did to learn as much as possible about their instrument! Thank you for all you do. ❤️
Seymour, this is so beautiful. I’m in tears. You play with żal. I feel like I have heard the voice of Chopin for the first time. I love your sweet tone; It sounds like a bell. You have touched my heart dear friend. Chills chills and nothing but the chills.
Dear Mr Bernstein, I got to know just recently your books and felt deeply touched by your deep understanding of any pianists problems. Your interview left me in tears of joy and emotion, as well as your playing. Greetings from Brasil!
That's what true virtuoso is all about. I salute you Mr. Bernstein. Listening to your interpretation I was ready to cry. Thank you for very touching performance. Our beloved Fryderyk is in heaven now and he plays there making angels happy. All the best to you Mr. Bernstein and all the best to your fans. ❤❤❤
Seymour gives the impression of having been personally taught by Chopin and one feels the great composer would have acknowledged that Seymour really perceived the music behind the notes.
Dear Seymour~ Thank you very much for your beautiful playing. I saw your movie for a long time ago ,since then I became a big fan of you.Few months ago I watched your lesson to korean students on on-line at Osan city. I was deeply moved from that time.As I am a beginner piano I try to follow your lesson. I am so happy knowing you and listening your playing at this moment. Hope your healthy~
Ah, wonderful! I can hear the bell like tones--even over the computer. I think ALL of your recordings should be made on the day of the tuning! Sensitive playing, as always, dear Seymour. I will share this with my musical friends.
I’m glad to listen to your beautiful sounds. Losing the piano technician must be very sad thing for you. I’m sure she is happy to hear your performance in the heaven. Please care of yourself and live eternity for us.
Kay, I didn't lose my tuner. I woder why you thought that. The sadness comes from thinking of Chopin and how he suffered and died in his 30'a. Thanks so much for writing. Seymour
I always felt this nocturne was played too fast. Even the ones regarded as slower, I wish could be more slow and mournful. I feel Bernstein's tempo is perfect for this music.

This was a pleasure to listen and as I read along I could feel the Chopin's mourning knowing the inevitable end will come.

Great composers wrote these pieces, but only Mr. Bernstein can reveal the stories within so masterfully. Thank you.
