"Monsters are tragic beings. They are born too tall, too strong, too heavy. They are not evil by choice. That is their tragedy. They do not attack people because they want to, but because of their size and strength, mankind has no other choice but to defend himself. After several stories such as this, people end up having a kind of affection for the monsters. They end up caring about them." -Ishiro Honda

Poor Godzilla, first his home was destroyed, and then his son died.
Godzilla then melted to the ground because of his radioactivity.
This ended the Heisei Era, but his legacy continued.

What hurts me especially about Godzilla's death is knowing that he died in grief. After the destruction of Birth Island, despite his horrid mutation caused by it, basically running a nuclear fever, all he could think about was finding his son.
He spent almost the entire movie searching for him, hoping he's alright, despite not even being related by blood. And as soon as he found him, they were torn apart again by Destoroyah, who killed the only thing Godzilla truly cared about before his very eyes. He ultimately let his anger out on Destoroyah, but the damage was already done.
Finally, as Godzilla dies, he uses his dying breath to let out one last roar, but not fierce, proud, intimidating or strong as the King Of The Monsters did so many times, but tired, weak and sad. As his live fades, he felt as though he had failed, never knowing that he actually won. His energy revives his son, and the will of the king is carried on into the next millenium.
_You have lived a battle, now rest in peace, Heisei Godzilla, in my opinion to this very day the most iconic incarnation of them all._

The most solemn thing about this scene is for the entirety of the Heisei series, humanity was actively trying to find any way possible to finally defeat and kill Godzilla. Yet, when he finally dies: Nobody cheers. Nobody celebrates. Nobody starts clapping. Nobody says a word. They simply stand there in silence feeling pity and sorrow for this creature that, for all intents and purposes, was nothing more than a victim of Mankind’s hubris.

Something a lot of people dont catch is at 2:16 the flesh from his upper face and throat fall out from the eye sockets through his bottom jaw. Its what actually cuts off his roar, his vocal cords melt off right after his chest rips open and his heart explodes. Which is what the orange stuff is.
Kawakita really wanted his death to be gruesome. What really sets the tone is unlike the 54 Godzilla who struggles as its dying this Godzilla just stands there. This is done on purpose as the idea was to sell to the audience losing Jr was more painful than the pain Godzilla is actually going through in his final moments. Going so far as to make Godzilla sound like he's sobbing as he's dying mourning he couldnt save his son.

It’s quite painful and emotional seeing Gojira in mental and physical pain. The loss of his adopted son that he spent the entire movie to search for only to have him ripped in half and die to the hands of Destoroyah, and the pain of literally melting because of something he could not have controlled. To die to the hands of something that you never thought would’ve happened to yourself.
He cried in pain, in pain of his uncontrollable amount of energy and the pain of his lost son. He let out one last cry, a cry of failure that he could not save his son, but also a cry of relief as he knew that when he died he would see his son. However, to Gojira’s delight, his son was resurrected with his death, and his spirit lives on.

I decided to revisit Godzilla vs Destoroyah and it was such a beautiful film, Godzilla's meltdown always get's me in the feels due to us of course knowing this Godzilla for so long. I loved the growling before He started to melt completely it sounded as if He was crying or just struggling to even breathe, and the roar was just so upsetting to listen to. Godzilla in this scene wasn't Angry, or triumphant, He lost the only thing He cared about and soon his own life, and all He could do as He started to melt was just sob, He never moved an inch while in meltdown. Like another comment stated the pain of loosing Jr was more painful than the meltdown Godzilla was experiencing. And I loved the calls from Jr, they sounded as if He was calling out to Godzilla, and to of course no response. And of course this was Akira Ifukube's last Godzilla film, this was more a less a farewell to both Godzilla and Ifukube himself. His Track "Requiem" hit me so hard during Godzilla's death. Bravo to everyone who worked not just on this film but the entirety of the Heisei series. And special thanks to Kochi Kawakita for His hard work making all those special effects to make Meltdown not only look so good, but make it look so real and painful.

This scene was super sad to me, but in a "WOAH" sense. It then put tears in my eyes after I learned the significance of the music. Made by the Legend himself, the creator of the original theme. When he was given the task of making another musical masterpiece he was brought to an emotional point on the inside, because he felt the music he was composing felt like he was composing funeral music for his own son. His baby boy which he helped raise was dying, and ironically enough Godzilla had lost his own son in the very movie the music would be composed for.
Not to mention the final cries out from Godzilla is like he is crying out for his boy, or something more heart wrenching, Godzilla giving up his life by exerting energy to explode his heart to try and save his boy before all the radiation runs out.
This will always send me on an emotional/thought filled trip over those things.
