"I was there when Godzilla was born... I should be there when he dies, too." - Akira Ifukube, on agreeing to write the score for Godzilla vs. Destoroyah What a powerful sendoff he gave.
“The theme for Godzilla’s death was one of the most difficult pieces I have ever had to compose in a way, it was as if I was composing the theme of my own death… When Godzilla was born, a phase of my life began. Now Godzilla is gone, and that phase is over. It was very emotional.” *- Akira Ifukube*
“Monsters are tragic beings. They are born too tall, too strong, too heavy. They are not evil by choice. That is their tragedy. They do not attack people because they want to, but because of their size and strength, mankind has no other choice but to defend himself. After several stories such as this, people end up having a kind of affection for the monsters. They end up caring about them.” -Ishiro Honda
Such a true and great quote. A Godzilla movie, when done in a balanced and proper way can cause us to have much sympathy for Godzilla as well as any enemy he fights.
In Memory of Tomoyuki Tanaka (1910-1997) In Memory of Eiji Tsuburaya (1901-1970) In Memory of Ishirō Honda (1911-1993) In Memory of Haruo Nakajima (1929-2017) In Memory of Akira Ifukube (1914-2006) May these Godzilla Legends Rest in Peace.
Today, we have sadly lost "Kenpachiro Satsumo" who passed away. He was best known for being the suit actor for Godzilla in the Heisei series during the 80s and 90s. Rest in peace, Kenpachiro, and thank you for what you have contributed to the franchise. You will never be forgotten by all of us. “Those we love don't go away, They walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear.”
AVoiceOfOpinion93 Oh wow! Charles Dunce, the actor that played Tywin Lannister, said “Long Live the King” in the official trailer of Godzilla, King of the Monsters (2019). Just letting you guys know.
You know. In a alternate timeline, this could have not just been Akira’s last piece in this franchise before his death. But it could have been the very last movie this series ever had. While it would have given this track so much more meaning then it does now, I think we can all say we’re happy with Godzilla still continuing to this day.
It still surprises me that a requiem for a rubber suited lizard could be so mysterious and sad and moving. This is absolutely one of my favorite pieces of music from any soundtrack.
Let’s not forget that this movie was supposed to be the definitive end to the story of Gojira. From a ruthless beast of destruction that wanted nothing more than to destroy humanity to a loving parent and destroyer of truly evil creatures that threatened Earth as we know it, Godzilla went through unbelievable pain in both physical and mental forms just to protect Earth. And he was destroyed in the worst way possible: by himself. As this was (at the time) supposed to be Godzilla’s final film appearance, he definitely went out on a high note for fans of the atomic kaiju we all know and love. The series was rebooted in 1999, but the 1995 movie will always be regarded by many as the true end to the tale of Godzilla, the King of the Monsters.
On this day, March 17, 2022, Legend Akira Takarada would be discovered that he had passed away at the age of 87 on the 14th. May this legend Rest In Peace
Momoko kochi and akihiko hirata, eiji tsubaraya, tomoyuki Tanaka, ishiro Honda, Akira ifukube, and haruo nakajima, may they welcome him with open arms.
Today marks 3 years since Akira Ifukube's death. Having been a master of music, Toho, Godzilla, and the world, miss him. I hope Toho makes it a requirement from now on that any song composed for Godzilla movies must take notes from Ifukube's work.

Rest in peace Kenpachiro Satsuma, thank you for making my childhood so awesome, words will never express how much your portrayal of Godzilla has impacted me
Do not weep for the void left by his passing, enjoy the life he lived. Whether you admit it or not he was a monster to some, a suit to others or even a joke. But in the end he was there..he was an icon, he was a king.... The tears come but they come out of the emptiness left in your heart. There will never be another as great as he...an icon, a hero, a villain all in one...lay your head to rest titan of old. You fight no more, the battle is won and the world is at peace... Farewell Gojira....thank you
This piece hits much more harder than ever. We lost a great legend. Kenpachiro Satsuma, you carried the torch from the late Haruo Nakajima as the King of monsters from 1984 to 1995 and as adversaries, Gigan and Hedorah. You made a lasting impact for those who grew up with the heisei series, inspired so many to follow your footsteps. Your passing was very hard for many such as myself who grew up with the films you're in as either the enemy or as the King of the Monsters since childhood. Satsuma-San, rest in peace, we will forever remember you. Sayonara, King of the Monsters.
Combined with Prayer for Peace, this creates the ultimate Godzilla moment of sadness, tears and ugly crying. Thanks again for making me cry to sleep, Toho.
Technically his son faded into the depths of cinema history after GvD and never returned. And if you're a fan who thinks that Final Wars was Junior, it was not. The flashbacks of previous films mean nothing in the face of the fact that the Final Wars Godzilla was alive in the 60's, frozen, and then came back later in the film. Junior was born in the 90's, and therefore can't be the Final Wars Godzilla.
I will never stop thinking of Kenpachiro Satsuma when I listen to this song. I can't watch Godzilla vs Destoroyah without crying even more than before after his passing. It's sad to know that one day we won't have anymore Godzilla suit actors left... some of them we don't even know if they have officially passed or not. I hope the ones that are still alive are living peacefully.
I still cant watch this movie. Its not even a bad movie. It has awesome music, good battles and even the Super X made its return. But Juniors and Godzillas death are too much for me.
El Godzila heisei sufrió demasiado y esta canción representa su despedida, el ya hizo lo que tenía que hacer y ahora podrá descansar. Descansa en paz , Godzilla heisei (1984-1995)
No matter what I do, no matter how long it has been, I will still cry to this at 18 years old, and likely the rest of my life.. I'm sitting here going through all the comments, which is fueling even more sobs, and the fact that everyone here knows exactly where I stand is beautiful. Godzilla was always there, and he will always live on. Through Jr., through more generations to come. It's just heart shattering that he had to go like that. We all love him, his immortal presence is like no other.
In loving memory of Kenpachiro Satsuma May 27 1947-December 16 2023. Rest Well great hero of our childhoods, your performances left an impact on a whole generation.
This coment is for Kenpachiro Satsuma, the actor behind the suit of showa Hedorah, showa Gigan and the heisei version of my favorite character of the entire cinema history Godzilla, all that sacrifice to bring life the biggest hero of Japan will be remembered in his films that we still watching through many years of our lifes. I don't know if there was another life after this, I hope he would be happy to watch Haruo Nakajima, Akira Ifukube, Ishiro Honda, Tomoyuki Tanaka and Eiji Tsuburaya, recreating his good times
Alan Carrillo Yeah, pretty much. But at least it was something that was meaningful to him, as opposed to simply thinking of it as just part of the job or something.
Alan Carrillo Certainly! He took pride in his work. That’s why he got so angry when he saw Toho turn his classic Godzilla theme into a pop track for Godzilla vs. Biollante.
I remember being a kid and thinking Godzilla was truly unkillable, when i was a kid, 2014 introduced me to Godzilla (I was a big dinosaur kid and thought thats what he was back then) and after that movie I watched some of the originals, and I remember watching this movie and when this happened I was so shocked and it was only of the only times I can remember my kid self actually crying because of a movie. This movie is a beautiful masterpiece and what a sendoff for the original King of the Monsters in this timeline of movies. I will admit, this movie even made me sit in fear when Godzilla in Kotm (2019) went into the burning state because I thought I was going to have to watch Godzilla die again and got really scared. Thank god he lived on in the monsterverse from then and I can't wait to see how The New Empire continues that Godzilla's story. But this movie had such a beautiful score, and listening to it now still makes me tear up.
The death scene was so damn intense and emotional with this wonderful piece of music. It still gets me everytime. For (some) "younger" fans it's (maybe) like the death of their well-known best childhood-friend ;_;
Back in high school like a year ago I did a essay on this for a film Literature class cause i loved godzilla nd still do. . .thanks to this Big bastards sacrifice i passed the class with an A
This. I like this. Probably the saddest moment in a m0vi3 my little kid self had to experience. RIP Heisei Godzilla, you were fucking *awesome* d00d. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF Godspeed, Gojira. Godspeed.
It really is an incredible piece of music. If you played this in isolation to an audience of classically trained musicians, I'm sure at least a few of them would have this playing in their head for a week afterward. Ifukube did an amazing job by bringing Godzilla to life through his music, my thanks to his talent and contributions to music as an art. May he rest in peace.
This was the exact theme that instantly stirred in my head when I found out Haruo Nakajima died.... It was one of the most terrible days in my entire life with my mind thinking about our king of the monsters passing and this theme stirring in my mind
R.i.p AkiraTakarada, you will be remembered along side Ishiro Honda, Akira ifukube, and the man himself Haruo Nakajima. Thank God for creating these people to make us smile, to make us laugh, to make us cry, to entertain us. Thank you everyone for watching the brilliantly made godzilla films involving these people.
RIP to the Heisei Godzilla Kenpachiro Satsuma, he is now with many more kaiju superstars but most importantly he is with the man who was the first Godzilla, Haruo Nakajima, rest well to the first 2 kings 🙏
This really tells you something when you learn this was supposed to be the final Godzilla movie ever made. The end of a kaiju, the end of an era, the end of an actor, the end of a series. When I say this is the only Godzilla moment that made me cry, I mean it.
I think it's the saddest movie there is in the Heisei series if Godzilla Junior dies is already sad but if Godzilla Melts is tragic. my opinion After Best Movie and Soundtrack (Requiem) Love it
Although Godzilla is a monster known as fighting other kaiju I’m glad they really add the meaning of Godzilla he was a message he was a symbol of Japan
Akira Ifukube described this as like doing the music for his own death.
This was the last Godzilla movie he did the music for in his lifetime.
so he had it right! I hope they played it at his funeral
may we all miss you Akira!
If Akira Ifukube had a son or daughter ( pretty sure he does ) they would have done the new Godzilla music.
The little Toxic shadow well that depends, they may not necessarily be good at composing just because their parent was.
Huh.
Ednimo true... Agreed. I think they wouldn't compose a Godzilla movie just because their parent was.
"I was there when Godzilla was born... I should be there when he dies, too." - Akira Ifukube, on agreeing to write the score for Godzilla vs. Destoroyah
What a powerful sendoff he gave.
I was there for Godzilla two and 1995
Chills.
I only got into Godzilla from seeing the characters face on a movie box.
and then TriStar proceeded to murder the character in their own way with the 98 film. no wonder Toho had to re-start the franchise again so quickly.
“The theme for Godzilla’s death was one of the most difficult pieces I have ever had to compose in a way, it was as if I was composing the theme of my own death…
When Godzilla was born, a phase of my life began. Now Godzilla is gone, and that phase is over. It was very emotional.”
*- Akira Ifukube*
The sadder part was that this was their last godzilla theme they composed before they died.

The legend never dies.
The death scene was so damn intense and emotional with this wonderful piece of music. It still gets me everytime. For (some) "younger" fans it's (maybe) like the death of their well-known best childhood-friend ;_;
Back in high school like a year ago I did a essay on this for a film Literature class cause i loved godzilla nd still do. . .thanks to this Big bastards sacrifice i passed the class with an A
Wow. Didn’t think I’d hear someone writing an essay about Godzilla for school. Nice job dude!
In my life, I cannot see there ever being a more powerful or more emotionally-destructive piece than this.
I balled my fucking eyes out when this played in godzilla vs gigan rex. Junior has truly made his old man proud
This. I like this. Probably the saddest moment in a m0vi3 my little kid self had to experience.
RIP Heisei Godzilla, you were fucking *awesome* d00d.
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
Godspeed, Gojira. Godspeed.

Okie
Right in my damn feels....
You gonna need a medic?
@@kabob0077 no,
It can't be healed
It really is an incredible piece of music.
If you played this in isolation to an audience of classically trained musicians, I'm sure at least a few of them would have this playing in their head for a week afterward. Ifukube did an amazing job by bringing Godzilla to life through his music, my thanks to his talent and contributions to music as an art. May he rest in peace.
This was the exact theme that instantly stirred in my head when I found out Haruo Nakajima died.... It was one of the most terrible days in my entire life with my mind thinking about our king of the monsters passing and this theme stirring in my mind
Farewell Kenpachiro Satsuma. Hopefully you'll meet Haruo Nakajima in the afterlife in Tokusatsu Heaven.
Welcome, Dragon Ball fans. You may use this song to mourn the death of the legend.
SKREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOOOOGNK...
could't have said it better myself

RIP to the Heisei Godzilla Kenpachiro Satsuma, he is now with many more kaiju superstars but most importantly he is with the man who was the first Godzilla, Haruo Nakajima, rest well to the first 2 kings 🙏
R.I.P
This really tells you something when you learn this was supposed to be the final Godzilla movie ever made. The end of a kaiju, the end of an era, the end of an actor, the end of a series.
When I say this is the only Godzilla moment that made me cry, I mean it.
I’m glad it wasn’t the last. Everything after it was pretty great.
Rest in peace kenpachiro satsuma thank you for everything you may now rest long live the king
Thank You for Everything Kenpachiro Sasuma.
Rest in peace Kenpachirō Satsuma.
The last time we heard his music in Shin Godzilla was like meeting a old friend after years and years a return to the classic 1954-1995
I think it's the saddest movie there is in the Heisei series
if Godzilla Junior dies is already sad
but if Godzilla Melts is tragic.
my opinion After Best Movie and Soundtrack (Requiem) Love it
The saddest movie in the whole franchise in my opinion
Yep
Though from the depths of the rubble, Jr. awakes as the new king…
This song...it shook my soul brought me to tears even when I first heard it..and it still makes me shudder after all these years..
The meltdown is the most emotional scene in all of the Godzilla franchise
Dam this soundtrack still hit the feels. It’s like if all good things come to an end was a song.
You were good son, REAL good.
Maybe even the BEST.
A movie that will never be forgotten
Although Godzilla is a monster known as fighting other kaiju I’m glad they really add the meaning of Godzilla he was a message he was a symbol of Japan
He went down in a painful way, but he went down in a blaze of glory.
This movie made me cry as a kid
