LASE SRM450A MACKIE SPEAKER REPLACEMENT AMP REVIEW

  • Today I share my experience installing, testing and reviewing the Lase SRM450A amplifier module in my Mackie SRM450 v1 active loudspeaker. This replaces the stock amplifier giving the loudspeaker more options and the ability to use 100-240VAC as an input source whereas the original only allowed 1 specific AC power input and limited its use geographically.

The delay setting is for time alignment from use of multipal speaker cabinates so you hear them all at the same time

  • @aaronatwood9298

The delay is for the pass through to correct for speaker placement.

Mr. James the delay is if the speaker is far away from the source. For instance if you have a 20meter cable (or more) away from the speakers. The further from the speakers the more delay there is in mili seconds. I researched the Mackie as well as the QSC systems, both are comparable and work well.

I mirror the comments of Andy and Waimea. QSC explains it well. What used to require lots of outboard gear, is now packed in the speaker. All for time alignment.

What drivel. The delay between the speaker and the source is esentially zero (speed of electricity/light). There is a delay of approx 1ms per foot bewteen the speaker and the *listener* through the air, which is a completely different thing. There may be a tiny delay in the speaker's DSP, which is insigniificant.

I am certainly not an expert, but I do believe the delay is for a situation in which you would have a set of speakers at the stage. Then, a second set half way out the audience. You can set the delay to give the sound of the first set of speakers to reach the second set of speakers. That way, the audience past the second set of speakers doesn't hear the audio twice. It would sound very confusing to hear the same thing twice. It would only take milliseconds for the sound of the first set to reach the second set. Hence, a delay in milliseconds. That delay would make the sound seem to come from one source instead of two. Hope that makes sense.

Hi James, good day! Thanks for sharing Mackie powered speakers. I'm a repair technician here in Reno, NV., for InMusic Brands (formerly Numark Industries), for DJ musical production, Pro Audio musical Instruments. InMusic Brands carry the Alto powered loudspeakers. The most common issue from customer returns is burnt output power transistors. I would say Alto is a competitive brand. Yamaha is also a good brand. :))

The delay only works on the output.
ie: if you have your mains by the stage and you need a speaker 50ft further into the room…you run a cable from your main stage cabinet and delay it by ?ms you set it at.

Nice to see another Mackie fan do a review on this amp as I myself was curious about it! Back in the early 2000's when i got my first Made in Italy SRM's i was completely blown away by the quality of the sound. I did use them for DJ for crowds around 50 people and they did work well except for the fact that they would overheat and turn off for awhile. I avoided the Blue V2's and ended up getting a set of the Black V2's which i still have today and LOVE because of the reduced weight and the fact that this amp can take more of a beating without overheating. Now i wonder how the LASE would hold up in a punishing environment like i expose my speakers to, something tells me that it would not hold up for very long. Also, i wonder if this company is a 100% Chinese designed / produced amplifier? I wonder if they have gone past the 1.0 software revision by now and made any improvements. Thank you for the review, and i myself have and always will love the SRM450 because of its acoustical properties and how handsome the speakers are. Cheers!

Presumably My PI Dream has no idea what 'Delay ' is, or is for. Not encouraging in a 'tech' review. It is not an echo effect, it is a time delay from the input signal to the sound coming out, and if for setting up 'delay speakers' away from the main speakers, and time-aligning the sound at that point. It is milliseconds. You won't hear any difference just listening to the single speaker.

Nice. I had two 6 channel Mackey bords. Very clean sound. Loved them. But i had A Carvin PA with 4 18 inch sub's, 2 inch horns, and two 12 inch mids and 5k Wat power then 4 monitor's. I did all the packing and setting up myself. I built myself a nice six pack abbs packing that around every three day's Lol's. Don't miss it at all. Only miss the singing Lol's. I'm never going to pack a PA like that again. Lol's. See you in the Philippines

A delay is not an echo bro. It's for delay fills. The frequency is for setting a high pass filter, not for setting the frequency you want to "emphasize". Really funny what people think.

'Subwoofer' selects a frequency to cut off from the speaker itself, the sub being set to take over around the same frequency.

    Hello james,
We are building in Philippines and are building the roof beam for a flat roof. I'm interested in seeing the rebar design for the connection to the roof trusses.

    • @MyPIDream
      @MyPIDream  5 років тому +1

I'm not a big fan of how roof truss or C purlins are secured traditionally in the Philippines. Most of the time its just a weld of the wall structural rebar to the C purlins. I believe, if not cleaned and painted properly from corrosion, the weld joints have a potential to fail. I'm not a roofing expert but if I were to design it, my thoughts would be embedding threaded GI in the walls and securing the roof to the walls with hardware. Good luck on your build and keep us updated.

Since you can’t see input level . The only way to tell if it’s working is by hearing it ? Is this correct ?
