RetroBlasting rebuilds the Ninja Turtles' original sewer playset!

Just found mine in the basement and used this video to assemble it. All the pieces are there!! Even the rare 3 pieces he lists at the end
Actually many collectors prefer the Technodrome over the Sewer Playset. Your collection is incomplete without either one. I actually prefer the Technodrome over the original Sewer Playset simply because there were more fun and interactive features with the Double Decker Mobile Fortress. Not only was it the villain's playset but when closed up became a mega vehicle. There were secret passageways, secret ooze pits, torture traps and pitfalls, gunner stations and an armory. In fact no TMNT collection is complete without these items: Party Wagon, Blimp, Sewer, Mutant Module, Technodrome, Krang's Android Body and the Newsvan. These accessories were featured in the TV show more frequently and are the most sought after pieces.
Excellent video! I would just like to say: Careful buying one of these sets during the wintertime. Well if you live in a cold country that is. If the package is cold when it arrives wait a while for it all to warm up. If the pieces are cold, they could chip, or even snap right off. My friend ordered a vintage sewer a few years ago. He insisted on setting it up posthaste. Then sure enough the connecting stud on the blue radar dish snapped right off! Also careful the yellow hydrant pieces can break easily too!
I just restored one myself. When I got the bulk of it, it was missing 2 of the elevator pieces, the fire hydrant, the cardboard fence, and the tele-swing. But I managed to track them all down and it's become the centerpiece of my now rather large Playmates TMNT collection.
This gave me crazy childhood flashbacks. Maximum respect for your efforts!
Same dude
😔😔😔
Just picked one of these up today and like many others I found this video very helpful in figuring out what I need to complete the set.
Good job getting this set back together. This was definitely one of the required play sets to have for Ninja Turtle fans!
One of your best restores yet! And i forgot how simple, cool and fun this set was.
Man, what an awesome set! Good job rebuilding this one!
Thank you so much for making this video! I just bought one of these off eBay and your tutorial was extremely helpful! I couldn't have assembled it otherwise!
Really enjoyable to watch you restore the sewer playset and very informative!
Oh the memories!
I always wanted the party wagon and technodrome when i was coming up as a kid.
great review. Ive always wanted to hunt down the vintage playset for my own collection and have wondered just how it all went together just in case i do buy one incomplete. thanks!
I've never seen one of these in person and this was a great video showcasing it. Thanks!
I used to have it!! It's gone!! Gone FOREVER!! 😩😩😩
Awesome! It looks great! Never was into ninja turtles, but I agree with you on having this to complete your collection. Great job!
i really enjoy your restorations its great to bring life back to old plastic parts and create a masterpiece :3
I'm lucky as my sewer playset still goes together and comes apart really easily. Hadit since I was 9 and loved it so much!
Damn! I had this when I was a kid! Good times playing it!!
Love this series. Thanks for the engaging content!
Still have the complete set at my mother's house. Good ol' memories!
great job!! I was slightly too old for this playset upon its release, but I still admired it greatly even back then - it's a really cool toy, plus I love the shadows it casts within its interior ... reminds me of certain lighting designs from the movie
Memories! I had them all!
I would keep the extra sewer pipe pieces, and use them to extend the side entrance, especially the curving one, so you could use it to face in/out when looking at the playset!
I never had this set as a kid. Looks awesome! Thank you guys for this super interesting video! Great work as always!
Awesome seeing that put together. Great job
I still have mine and yes it was tons of fun to play with. You can also connect the technodrome to the sewer lair which was awesome...
love these restoration videos
Fun video. Keep up the interesting content and make more!
I always felt like that set was very cramped. I would assume you'd want to have the four turtles, Splinter, and maybe April underground but there isn't much room.
Really, most of the "lair" was implied with stickers on the wall of the playset. It always kind of put a damper on this set for me as a kid.
Wow, I had one of these! Great set 👍
I don't usually dive into these type of things but my dad got this when he was little and the Techno drone and you know all of the very important stuff except the news van and I got bored and I'm trying to repair it I'm missing 4 parts and this video helped a lot
What a great toy. So many memories.
Very useful video. I recently bought a used Sewer Playset and had no idea what part went where or what was missing.
I always wanted this playset
I vaguely remember owning this playset as a child.
I fcuking loved this tings! My Mum threw most of it out years ago. 😩
Nice work! So good to see someone from my era restoring these childhood gems. I never got to buy the big playsets as a kid. My parents would always give me a choice every year..
My Parents "Do you want the Sewer playset for those turtle ninja mutant things this year or do you want 12 turtle mutant figures?"
Me.."Well when you put it like that, I'll take the Ninja Turtles"
Awesome video. I love the many helpful hints.
Great restro enjoyed seeing this playset
Once again fantastic restoration Michael! I used to love the 2000s era TMNT show when I was a little lad, never really watched the original show though the playsets look fantastic! Anyway, I can't wait to see you do one of your editorial videos on the TMNT and its associated toyline as well as whatever your next restoration may be!
Even though i dont own or have any turtle toys, but i still find this video very informative. Always liked to watch your videos
I found a complete Tmnt sewer playset at a Garage sale
You buy it?
So goddamn lucky
I had this as a child and knew this has the potential to be a money-pit requiring lots of rare extra parts and even additional donor sets so I just waited and searched ebay newly listed items regularly until a nice, well stickered and complete one came up at a good price and it required minimal investment to get to top quality. If the screws were rusty on your side panel then you should have also checked for rust on the metal glide bar inside as that can also be transplanted. I hope the person who bought your leftover parts didn't think they were getting a nice set... :-)
Oh the memories
I love to see you Restore and maybe improve the Ghostbuster Firehouse
Enjoyed seeing this set come back to life and agreed lots of play value, do you think play sets in general are a thing of yesterday or could you see there return sometime? Top work as always Guys! Cheers Fuzz.
I never remember mine coming with the yellow plug piece. Maybe a different version like you mentioned with the elevator rail? I need to dig mine out now. Good video.
Awesome
Ive found weird variations on parts like this with the voltron castle of lions. One i had had top towers that were a completely different size than another so they wouldnt fit into the locking holes at each corner, and the computer piece inside attached completely different. Made finding missing parts a pain.
You could just have bought pvc tubing of all kinds of sizes and make a huge awesome sewers play set!
Man i had this as kid... Think it was christmas '91 or '92. I loved it!! Those were the days: playing tmnt 1 & 2 on nes and then with the toys, which i had allmost all. Dont know how my mom found money for all that shit, ussr had just collapsed to its own impossibility and my dad didnt have any job gigs in there anymore... But she did buy me all those toys.
I had an incomplete sewer set for a while. It was the Ghostbusters' Van Horne subway.
Really nice
I like it cooooool video
Always wanted this playset didn't have one though used shoe boxes instead my dad helped me with the details with marker pens miss my dad
I have always found it odd how poorly documented TMNT has been in all its forms.
God I hate when I buy second hand toys and the previous owner put the stickers on wrong!
lighter fluid, and patience
It kind of like when I go to car boot sales and find transformers toys but sometimes they might be broken or some parts might be lost
IIRC from way back when I had this as a kid. Some of the stickers were intended to be customizable.
Now I need to find that radar dish...goddamn it lol
I'm planning on eventually getting that, it's just a case of finding the right one for the right price.
I like ninja samurai concept, one can be both.
I recently found my childhood Sewer Playset and I think on the elevator I had the one with just the simple trenches. I had super glued mine in back in the day because they would never stay on. The glue is still holding them on so I can't be sure.
If you ever get around to doing the Technodrome I can help. I've taken mine apart more times than I can count.
Wow that sounds rough looking at the pictures online like that. If I'd known that was the case I'd have told you to contact Suine Hallock. Suine is buddies w/ 'Pixel" Dan Eardley I told you about, and Suine is a SERIOUS TMNT fanatic and on his channel on You Tube he showcases TMNT figures, vehicles & sets, includeing the TerrorDome which is an amazing video. I'd bet 10-1 he'd have or know where to instructions and details about the Sewer Lair & probabily be able to answer any & all questions you'd have.
I still have mine and I took very good care of it growing up. I'm just missing a yellow spike ball that sat at the top and the blue horn thing to move the elevator up and down. I even have that tiny yellow thing next to the fire hydrant. I looked at my set and I saw a plastic pizza box which i don't see in your video. I'll film a video and post it up
Oh I so miss the original TMNT. the cartoon was great and the toys rocked! Man do I miss the 80s and early 90s. Any thoughts on a show called Dinosaucers, btw?
Better than the new one
I had this playset back in the day... totally mint! I ended up selling it on eBay about a decade ago because I was running out of room. Biggest. Mistake. Ever. :(
Still have this set.
Ever noticed that the outlines look like a camera?
For those trying to get a complete one this is actually missing a green trash can that goes next to the yellow fire hydrant
and perhaps.. I'm just guessing here another two of the radars as they fit on the front left - Happy hunting!, and I read below there is a Pizza box but I've never seen it.
There's no green trash can included with this set nor a pizza box. I know because I have a complete one mint in box. The green trash cans were included with the Retrocatapult and the Flushomatic toys. They contained the retromutagen slime. This toy does not have the slime. Even the box says so. The pizza box was a sticker.
Trans8010 also the radar wires if that's what you are referring to are all there. Oh there was also mutagen included with the oozey toy. Purple ooze in an orange can.
Trans8010 well.. that clears that up, guess some extras slipped into my box over the years.
Ya I did what you said in the video and I bought two incomplete sets to make a complete one
Hands down my favorite video
I haven't the room for this, but I'd sure as heck make some if there was a re-release.
this was another great restoration video, did you celebrate with some pizza afterwards,it seems that would be appropriate.
Of age? Play with it now! hahaha (serious stare)
little hint for warped plastic, use a hair dryer to heat the panel then clamp between two books or similar straight objects it will straighten but be careful not to heat too much.
love the turtles ( I just dug my own out set of my parents attic) keep the restoration videos coming. and let us know what response hasbro give you.
I'm having trouble with the elevator going up and down any suggestions?
IF I had known what I had when I was young, I would be sitting on a stack of money.
Aaaaaaaaaaalways wanted this as a kid, and now 20 years later, I'm finally waiting for it to show up in the mail! The one I bought seemed to have a pretty good cost:condition ratio, and seemed to have most of the major stuff commonly missing, I just hope I get lucky when it shows up! Seeing some of the problems that can occur in your video has made me a bit nervous!
:D Thanks for the support!
How was it?
How was it?
Was it goid
Ahh I need some of them parts
i was wondering, is it possible to take two broken sewers and make a super sized one?
I still have my sewer playset and technodrome.
I found my technodrome last week at a flea market for 20 bucks. Now I'm buying 30-100 dollar lots on ebay trying to restore it! gah what a money dump haha
You mean William Shatner appeared in a twilight zone episode (originally). That's what Airplane 2 was making fun of, the episode of twilight zone
You need a rubber hammer for tapping things like these together
I only remember three straight pipe pieces but it has been quite a while.
Soak the screws in vinegar, and use a vinegar soaked qtip on the spots you removed them from.
Hi, you should have three straight pipe pieces and one curved.
I understand This video was created a long time ago- but if you still have a few of your spare parts I’d be happy to make you an offer.
The top half of the periscope, the cardboard “vote” sign for in between the light posts, the yellow spike ball and plug. Any or all would get me closer to completing my set.
Sold those off years ago
Dude I found an original from the original owner complete and I love watching this restoration but you know that price at the end and the wire pieces i am still to this day shocked that I found it complete
Right now ......this second I just had my brother go to the mail box and I opened it and it was .............. THE 1989 TMNT SEWER PLAYSET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ............... AND IT CAME WITH SHREDDER!!!!! SO HAPPY 😀😂😅😄😇😄😃😅😂😀😂😃😄😇😅😂😃😄🤑😜🤑😜😜😍😍😍😍🤑😍😜🙃😆☺️😉🙃
When will we see a Batman 1989 toy set feature?
lol "VOTE"
I dug out mine today and the only thing missing is the cardboard fence...
did you know that the Technodrome can connect to this playset via the pipes?
Yep, we mention that in our TMNT Vintage Toy Review TMNT ua-cam.com/video/rNjzs_hTXMQ/v-deo.html
Missing pieces? 3-D printing can stop that.
I have neither of these playsets but I do have the sewer from 2012 and 2003 can I still be a real fan
Har this as a kid, wish I knew what happened to it
I had a very nice complete one of these in 2010 and sold it. Regret for the second time of getting rid of my turtle sewer sets in. I think I sold it with all four turtles for $50. 😭
How old are you? I was born 83 and played with this.
He's about six or seven years older. He was alive to watch early 80's cartoons.
