Me it was the fact that the Armchair was the only thing in that room that was still intact and upright.
Nuvendil That and the chair looked very out of place. Too pristine given the look of the rest of the room.

I love the character of Horace Slughorn. It provides such a different, fresh approach on a true Slytherin person that is not a total jerk 👌

@@vicentecastillo8352 He obviously is. Not all people searching for power need to be bad people, while you don't necessarily need to agree with their approaches. Slughorn is the business man kind of Slytherin, always looking for excellent connections and networks. That's very Slytherin to do.

@@vicentecastillo8352 That's just not true, sorry 🤷♂️ Plus, Slughorn is definitely a Slytherin, being the house teacher of Slytherin before and after Snape. So he proves that a "true" Slytherin is not evil by nature. I agree, though, that the movies alone somewhat fail to show all houses in all facets.

@@matasdanisas8864 He was sort of making fun of his plumpness or roundness. Upholstery is the cloth that covers the chair that kept him disquised, while the stuff or the stuffing inside the chair, where he is already a rounder fellow he comes by it naturally.

Dumbledore probably saw the shoes and concluded it was Slughorn, but because Slughorn has an infamously fragile ego, Dumbledore decided to lie and say it had to do with his own intimate knowledge of dragon’s blood, as Dumbledore wrote extensively on the subject and the many uses of the substance.

I know it's different from the books but I like how Dumbledore knew because of dragon's blood. It's consistent with him discovering the 12 uses of it.
No, in the book he also knew cuz of the dragon's blood, read it again.
The only difference is that Slughorn says "Merlin's beard!" instead of "Ouch!", which is actually an improvement. On rare occasion, the movies actually do some things better, like the possession scene in OOTP in an otherwise horrid stripping down of the, in many people's opinion, best book of the series.

99% of the character's personality is wrapped up in the delivery of the phrase "Merlin's beard!" You have to love it.

Horace Slughorn is amazing, one of the funniest characters if you want ! 💚🐍
Ah, my favorite Slytherin. Brilliant in his own right, and uses that brilliance to mentor promising students, connecting them with useful contacts while reaping some benefit for himself. Amassing more influence and power among those in prominent positions. I have always thought of Slughorn as "The Political Slytherin." He's a power broker. Not the murderous Voldemort or the entitled Malfoy. He helps all students, but selects his favorites and builds his network. He is a more ethical, amiable take on the Slytherin persona.

I really don't get why Dragons' Blood gave Slughorn away. Why was it there in the first place? What did its occurence tell Dumbledore? How did it lead him to the armchair?

Only the really good ones. Supposedly human transformation is one of the most difficult things to master, and dangerous if you do it wrong. part of what i love about this scene- its illustrates how powerful a wizard horace is, despite his bumbling character

The death eaters kept trying to recruit him so he was hiding out in random people’s houses. This one belonged to a muggle family that was away in the Canary Islands.

Well, in-universe, Albus wrote extensively on the 12 uses of dragon’s blood, so I feel like he knew what it was just from smell.

Honestly think they should've made Dumbledore poke him harder and/or longer.
It looks like Slughorn was literally waiting for Dumbledore to very gently nudge him for the sixteenth of a second, and not like Slughorn was actively trying to act like he wasn't there.
He's not poking him, he litterally casted a reverse-transfiguration spell on him, that's why horace screams at first, because it hursts.
