    When I use a pin vice, I find the best way to make sure the hole is clean and smooth is to keep turning the drill while at the same time drawing the bit backwards through the hole. It stops any bits of swarf being left behind.

    Thanks for sharing. Preparing metal figures seems to becoming a lost art.
    It can be awkward to hold a figure while drilling, but be sure to keep fingers clear of the exit hole. The drill tends to burst through at the very end, and will open up a painful hole if your finger is in the way.
    Spear length. I tend to use rather short spears. If a man stands 6 foot tall, a spear that clears the helmet will be 7 foot long. Scale choices aside, I prefer a very short shaft for figures holding a horizontal spear. Makes the figures easier to rank up, and reduces the chance of breaking off the spear.
