There is a language we use when working on cars (tanks) with our friends. I am conversant in American (West Coast), but it’s really entertaining to listen to you two crack jokes on each other while poring over a new project. Well played.
As a complete aside, my hobby is flying RC Planes. One of our club members managed to get hold of the moulds that were used to make to Suhkoi jets that were in the film. He was planning to makes some models from them, but not too sure he ever did.
You will need to order a drum of PB Blaster to free up those tracks! Works better than WD40 on seized parts. Love the missing hinge pins...Ted was right to stand back whilemhe let you two muck about with it.
It's not that either. It's the fact that the Foden wasn't level with the tank plate and dipped down in the front, if you go back to the scene, you can see the two bar push the rear up in the air ... essentially negating the second set of rears. I don't particularly get why it as designed with that tow bar mount so high (as one of the options) because these shituations happen and they almost always behave the same way. You want an even point option as much as you want the high ones... odd flaw on an otherwise pretty well rounded tow/recover package unit. l
You guys really knocked it out of the park this time. Poor old Foden wasn't beaten in anything her tyres had no grip on steel originally, then she was asked to move at an awkward angle ON GRAVEL. No contest! Unfair disadvantage. She shouldn't get downhearted, some of us still love her no matter what. Rest of vid, well Jack in the Box was different. So the whole thing looks to be in indifferent condition, typical Mr Hewes buy. Thanks for the visit, best wishes to all and thanks Jack for being the star.
I was not very familiar with the Chieftain before I started watching this channel. I have come to appreciate its lines. Quite a good-looking tank, I'd put it up there with the Leopard I. Love the sound of its engine, too. Anyway, another great episode, full of safety tips and proper tool useage.
Nice to see Ted make a cameo appearance.....he must be so busy making public appearances....opening garden fetes etc etc .... Judging poo eating competitions.....etc etc.....he always gives the videos that extra ooomph!
Cracking episode. The tracks on the tank don't go round and round, round and round round and round. The tracks on the tank etc. Sad to see the mighty Foden having a tough time, but it was up against something driven by Mr Bond!
The Chieftains in goldeneye were parked in an area seen in the movie just before the tank chase and made to look like T-55s which is probably why everything is missing
"Chieftain on Chieftain action" she says. Looks like it will be a runner! Foden did well all things considered. Stuck tracks, odd position, wheels on different surfaces. Also, Jack in the Box! Is Jack still making payments on that Snap On hat?
While I was watching this, it occurred to me. There must be one hell of a lot of privately owned tanks around this country of ours, and I think it's only a shotgun licence for the big guns too? Makes you think on the lonely dark roads around Dorset! Especially as the Army let one fall off of a trailer a few years back near here.
It all reminds me of the golden years of the War and Peace show. You are having a nice sleep and someone fires up an FV432 at 0300. Then a generator at 0500. Then the "loud" people start shouting at each other from 1m away about what they are doing today. But, I do miss that!
Never ever sell that foden !! It's an absolute weapon. Just a sold well made beast of a truck . Someone should start making them again . Britain needs more Fodens !!
I noticed once again, how there was a lot of clowning about, and then Ted arrived on the scene, and finally enabled you all to get some real work done😂
The T-54/T-55 (on loan from the East England Military Museum) used in the chase through St Petersburg, was modified with fake reactive armour. To avoid destroying the pavement on the city streets of St Petersburg it's steel tracks were replaced with rubber-shoed tracks from a Chieftain. Several Chieftains (including this one) were slightly modified and used in the tank park scene. The T-55 is now back at the East England Military Museum.
In a previous life, I was part of the team that used to proof the Gun Systems for these tanks, that is the gun cradle and associated parts consisting of the Gun Assembly holding cradle, L11 Barrel, Breach Ring and Breach Block assembly, by live firing, these were tested at 32 Tonnes per Square Inch, the cradles were made at ROF Leeds, The Gun Components were made at ROF Nottingham 😊
Love watching these two and the banter they have. Tanks and comedy at the same time. Also the area i grew up in so good memories when i did. Carry on lads and please don't change your format.😊😂
I Use to live not for from Vickers Armstrong where these tanks were made and we would see them quite regularly going along scotswood road Newcastle upon Tyne, They used to park them up just outside the city centre on transporters ready for delivery and we kids used to climb all over them back in the 1970s .
Mate was a stunt man on that film, 1st one for him. He's the guy knocked down the stairs by Piers Bond on the boat and then hanging from the helo at the end.
I recon my mate bought this tank many moons ago and when we got inside it had some of the cans still in there from when it drove through the lorry full of cans.
Regarless, that tank has real possibilities but the Joe and Jack interaction can't be scripted.....You have both clearly known each other for a long time, you're a good team !
I Cant think of a clever Cheifton Coupling comment resulting in a baby Cheifton, still gobsmacked by the future content thats going to come from you guys with the new additions, nice one team.
You Mong! 😂😂😂 Steaming mug of tea and a couple of bacon banjos, oh and a fresh Mr Hewes video that’s a pretty good start to a Saturday morning in my book.
Well Ted, when's the rest of the tank getting delivered? It looks like the souvenir hunters / vandals have had a field day. Crouch did very well to load it. Is there something even better than a Foden? Yes, Jack can fit in the box, but Mrs Westaway will be having words (many) if Jack is stored in the box overnight, not ideal for newlyweds!
Just saw the final bit and it was indeed at Boomers and Swingers golf range in Leigh. About a mile from my house. They have some other vehicles around the place too. My son used to climb all over this tank whenever we went there.
There was more than one tank featured in Goldeneye. The tanks in the Defence Ministry parking lot in the movie, the T-54/55 on the streets in the chase, and then a mockup that was on top of another vehicle to look like a T-54/55. And mockup to get hit by the train. The T-54/55 from the GoldenEye street chase was also in the Ian McKellen movie Richard III.
Should try 50/50 mix of ATF & acetone (nail polish remover) for freeing up rusted stuff. Been shown to be the best at it by far. … but you won’t want to keep the stuff in a plastic bottle…. That’s how you know it’s good!
I have seen those tanks in service (tells you how old I am), i was in the Canadian Military but the Chieftans use to train in Shuffield. Had a few training exercises with the British army at the time.
Who thinks I should have left Jack in the box?
Without biscuits 😂
Jack loves a good box
Yes just to see how many swear words he can shout!!!
I thought that is where you kept him
Least it would have been a bit quieter, all he's done is moan since he got married
you 2 argue like an old married couple.. bless the both of you never god damn change.
The tank chase in goldeneye was my favourite car chase in any film I can think of.
Jack squeezing into driver’s position that has no seat. “Oh some pointy stuff is in my arse. Normally I wait until the weekend for that.” 😂😂
💀💀
Nothing better than a Saturday morning with Ant & Dec mk2 😂
More like Morecambe and (un)Wise. 😂😂
Chuckle brothers
That's very fat and very rude😁
Better than Ant & Dec as they’ve got Ted!!!
Want to protect your foden? Need an on site mechanic anytime? Upgrade your foden today with the “ Jack in a box, roadside assistant”
Could always use uis as a hood ornamental?
Just give him a poke and he would shout at them to get the f*** out of the way !!
Cheep upgrade !! 😅
Jack doubles up as a reversing alarm too.
Surely the wise thing to do would be to acquire another Foden and start a breeding programme?
🤣
They had a pair of Fodens, but the other one escaped and hasn't been seen since. I expect it returned to the wild.

Never mind the tanks - what about that lovely brickwork on that old barn type thing with the smashed windows next to Concrete Chieftan !
Make a fortune as an air B&B. (People are cunts)
Yes, I noticed that too!
Yeah very nice arts & crafts window surrounds, 1905-1910 I reckon
I do love the absolute professionalism of your amazing team of trained engineers.
That tank (343) was also in a season 7 episode of Red Dwarf called Beyond a Joke. Kryten drives it out of a lake and blows up a Jane Austen Gazebo.
We need to find the clip now!

That was brilliant. The relationship you all have is fantastic. Never underestimate the importance of doing the job you love with the people you love.
Great video! From those of us in the Seattle area, keep restoring these irreplaceable pieces of history.
Send Abrams, stat!

Can't really say the Foden failed .... a seized track is above and beyond ! Fantastic bunch of guys
It was the smooth wet concrete that beat the Foden, not the tank.
And no diff lock by the looks of it

I find it amazing how for each of these tanks so many weird things have been done to them, many of them seemly for no reason
I think you should dig a pool, fill it with WD-40 so you can drag the tanks through, should free up that track np, and other stuff.
Like a sheep dip but for Tanks.
The Chieftains in goldeneye were parked in an area seen in the movie just before the tank chase and made to look like T-55s which is probably why everything is missing

I was on the roundabout at Ferndown Dorset when it fell, slow motion gravity.
Don't know who told you that the cannons on a tank count as shotguns but they don't. Shotgun law requires a smoothbore of less than 2 inches of bore.
