Awesome stuff, Ben! Thanks for the shout out and glad you got to fish the BC Big Fly with our good friends at MuskyFool!
along with wels catfish, a nothern pike/muskie are a the top of best large freshwater fish to go after.
Fishin my brand!! Love it! Total TFO gear douche here. The Legacy, the Blue Ribbon, and the Axiom2. All great rods for half the price of the top brands.
Let me know when you want to come to the Niagara river I’ll show you some Musky’s great vid bro !
They’re right. Musky are addicting. Think of those toothy bastards more than trout now
Great job Ben. I’m in Colorado (we met when you spoke for our TU group in Longmont last year) but we own a cabin in WI musky country and I take a small group most years. You were spot on that it’s about the camaraderie and the “encounters” as well as floating drop dead gorgeous rivers. Been at this for years and we now call it a “men’s retreat” as we have some of the best times around the evening fires. As a group, we average a fish landed and a couple encounters each year. Not for everyone and not for the faint of heart! Of note we usually cast 10 wts to sustain our shoulders! Truly HUGE fish! Hope you keep at it.
Hey Mark! I remember you saying something about that trip while we had dinner. Maybe I’ll bump into you up there next fall.
Dan set me up with a musky rod a few years ago, awesome guy, great customer service
Ayeee, made it out to Wisconsin! Ps, come out here next time for some walleye on the fly. Youuuuu won't regret it
3:44 GOOD LOORDY DAT CAST!!!1.
NICK!!! Had the pleasure of fishing with him a few weeks back up in Eau Claire. That was my first Musky outing too. Fun stuff...
I've hunted musky before, and it's just too much work. I wouldn't advise anyone to go up there on an expensive guided fishing trip with the hope of catching a musky. It probably isn't going to happen. In musky fishing, that's like a good weekend of fishing. You might catch one musky all weekend. Mostly, you're just going to catch pike and smallmouth and get skunked on musky. The guys up there are all mental about musky, but what they don't tell you is that they feel successful when they catch one or two nice fish in a month of casting and doing eights. Throwing those huge flies on sink tip all weekend isn't really my idea of fun anyway. Your shoulder isn't going to be happy. If I never never do eights again it'll be too soon. A musky trip is just an overpriced waste of time that would have been better spent on the mud flats in Louisiana.
Pike and Muskies on the fly is fishing at its BEST!!! Lovin it!!!
Honestly great to see the struggle. When you try something new you realize that time on task means a great deal. Great video!
Nice video! Catching musky on terminal gear is tough. Can only imagine what it's like to try on the fly.
Love the BC Big Fly!
But can you catch a foot long 10 pounder? I know a couple guys that can…….
love fishing in hayward. my happy place
Calling Jeff Currier a beginner 😂
Them flies look like whole chickens!
Yo Ben, mind if I ask what month this was?
That was cool
Sweet Vid!!! I went to Hayward twice before I caught first Musky (43") and had some Submarine follows on my second visit. Those are the ones that haunt you at night. I headed back this November for some Cold weather fly chucking rotator cuff replacement Fun. Better luck next and keep up the great content.
Badass video! Way to show a new guy like Currier the ropes... Haha. I've heard tiger muskies are a little easier to catch. Thankfully we have a few good spots for them in Colorado!
Very casual oh yeah I went musky fishing with Jeff Currier. Love it
There are still lakes full of fishermen who club pike and musky then sink them. Disgusting
Looked like a great time with some dedicated musky fisherman. Being in Wisconsin I thought for sure you would throw some squeaky cheese curds flies . Maybe next time , until then .
Happy Trails
@Huge Fly Fisherman I love that you named your bass Joseph. It just so happens My name's Joseph and I caught my first bass on a fly rig today. Thanks for all you content. Truly love your vids
Was on a float from Harper's Ferry to the mouth of the Monocacy catching small/medium smallmouth and had a muskie shred a new 4 weight. It was... educational.
Nick! Glad you got to fish with him. The musky stole him from us here in Montana. - Brian from GRG
On the first follow I am sure your hand was shaking when you reached for the GoPro. Mine would been.
Keep at them Ben, Musky do suck. I caught my first one a week ago after 8 years of trying, to be fair it wasn't a monster he was only 20inches.
My old stomping grounds! Miss the fishing in the Midwest..
Old sconnie!! Glad you enjoyed your time here. The muskie seem to be waiting to put on the feed bags this fall.
Bro i love the colter wall song you were listening to in this glad you enjoy that legend awsell
Man oh man, I’m moving out to Minnesota in November and can’t wait to try hunting these dinosaurs down.
Opening statement was my thoughts... good time for sure
Thanks for naming that pike Nathan after me! Love em!
I just like watching you cast.
love jeff new to flyfishing
Yo! I found a spot in Colorado with mad musky. Let’s go fish it
I’m in. Text me.
Good stuff!!! And chucking a 12w!!!! Fishing with new guy’s daily!!! GIANT flies!!! Great trip.
Questions: leaders for Musky and Pike? Size and mayerial?
And….. third day….. what kind of boat? Looked a nice well balanced smaller set up.
Keep up the good work!
I’m not qualified to weigh in on leaders, but I used wire and no one seemed real concerned about it.
The boat on the third day was a Towee.
9:00 that handshake..
Musky Fool = goodness
Happy Huge day everyone!
How come you used a intermediate line instead of a floating line for the popper fly?
Closest thing to a floating line we had. It worked fine.
Wow , Huge just took a big step up
you will appreciate your first musky all the more after putting this much time in ,,,, great video
Awesome video just a question what state do you live in?
A western one
@@HugeFlyFisherman ok cool wasn't sure i though Midwest
Ahh, and the fly just keeps giving! Great to see even super huge experienced dudes get spanked and hooked on new stuff at the same time! Aint it just grand?? 🙂 Now we're all going to be waiting for that musky, too. No pressure. Loving seeing some new species, even if we can only dream about them down here in Oz. Keep 'em coming. Thanks PP
