There are a handful of General Electric Model M-400A with semi cut off lens which is dated from 1985 or 1986 to 2000 in Chicago Illinois. Also available are General Electric Cobrahead which is Model M-250A which is dated from early 1983 to 2003 with cylindrical lens instead of conventional lens. Of course Chicago primarily uses the double door of the General Electric street light fixtures. The letter A stands for double door version while the letter R stands for single door units.
@@mrwhiskers4505 The issue of light pollution has been heavily studied within multiple fields of biology and ecology for decades, even before LED streetlights emerged. The results are clear: White light, especially that rich in blue light such as LEDs, is biologically toxic at night. Detrimental impacts have been observed across the animal kingdom including the loss of seasonal timing, the inability for nocturnal pollinators to operate, stress responses similar to heat shock and disruptions to daily rhythms. There is nothing environmentally friendly about LED streetlights, and no, they are not more energy efficient or brighter than the sodium lights they replaced. LED streetlights "save energy" by lighting a smaller area to a lower level of luminance, a practice that compromises safety and visibility. Simply installing a lower wattage sodium fixture could of achieved the same "energy savings" with less damage to the environment. The reason that LED streetlights appear brighter is because human perception of vision is based on glare and visual discomfort
I've always wondered what kind of street lights are Chicago street lights. What is the model? Chicago is the only city I know in the US with its own distinctive street light. Can't kind it anywhere else but here
Instead of replacing the entire luminaire with a new LED, why couldn’t you retrofit the existing luminaire with an LED corn bulb, presumably a 3000K (warm white) one? Waste of a lantern.
Corn lights can only go so bright. With the wants of technology of controlling a street light I don’t think you can comprehend a corn light with a smart node photocell.
