I now get all my boys school shoes off vinted and it has saved me a fortune! I set the filters to Clark’s shoes in “new” or “very good” condition and only choose ones that have lots of photos. Particularly check the tread is still decent and if you can still see the Clark’s logo clearly under where the ball of their foot would go then they are usually in great shape. Some kids only wear their shoes for half a term before outgrowing so there are loads of barely worn shoes available.
I get most (underwear from the shops) of my clothes/footwear etc from Vinted. So many good bits that are new with tags, worn once/few times and it’s generally a fraction of the original price. I have sinking funds for everything, have been digitally cash stuffing for years, have added and reshuffled a few things…. My main priority this year is paying down my debt and saving my car insurance excess.
I am catching up on some of your vlogs and I am rooting for you. A fellow single mum to a now 26 year old and raising boys is so rewarding. I'm letting the ads run and as I said earlier I've ordered your budget planner. Fiver Friday is a genuis idea and already set up a separate account for this. Have a fabulous rest of the Christmas holiday x
Hi Nicola, if you read this i would like to thank you for sending me your budget planner and the above sinking funds set up. I am new to the envelope system and, to be frank, in the planner I was not sure what the sinking funds page was for. However, after watching a few of your videos, all is now clear :). Thanks also for sending the order out so quickly and the delicious organic tea, which I did not order but was a lovely gift from you. I also watched the video on your backstory, I'm so sorry for what you have been through and in awe for what you have achieved. To anybody else reading this, the budget planner is really easy to understand and practical to use. I was expecting it to be bigger in size (THIS IS NOT A COMPLAINT) and actually prefer the size that that came!
@@NicolaatTheFrugalCottage Hi Nicola, I'm delighted that I found or rather your channel found me. I will be ordering the budget planners from now on. I bought one for my husband but he hates discussing money and so it's a bit of a challenge, but, if i sort myself out he will follow. Thank you so much for all your hard work putting this channel together.
I'm starting my sinking fund for the first time this year, as well as 2 saving challenges. Thanks to your watching your content. I'm really looking forward to the challenges. Thanks 😊.
Hello Nicola. It's good to see how you adapt your sinking funds each year, it shows others the need to roll with the financial punches, rather than persevering with the original plan if other circumstances have changed. Best wishes for the New Year 2025🎉
Been waiting for the end of the year to do a 2025 set up , feel raring to go and much more settled into my budget after doing it for a few years now, love seeing other people’s goals and set ups for the future ❤ it really works, and love the flexibility
I have had a sinking funds system in place for the last few years and it has helped me budget, so much better. I don't think it matters how you organise this as long as it works for you
I don't do sinking funds, i just keep an eye on what things are coming up and when, eg life insurance now in January and my annual gym payment that i split in two. Love watching these and agree that each different person can find the system that suits them best!
I wouldnt know how much to put in them each time as there are so many! I would probs stick to birthdays, car as one, school uniform and shoes as one, school holidays as one - i need to see progress more visibly and quickly than a £1 increment here and there!
Happy Christmas Nicola, and your new home is sorted. How big is your garden? Even if it’s small and you have to use large pots grow some raspberry canes, gooseberry bushes etc. They grow quite quickly and screen fences. New potatoes do really well in tubs too. The boys might get interested too. It’s been a difficult year with the dog and our own health so 2025 is eagerly awaited. All best wishes.
Raspberries will be good but definitely grow in a big pot up against something it can climb. If in the garden they push out zillions of runners and can rapidly spread into a difficult mess.
I separate out the larger "sinking funds" such as car insurance and dental needs. I like your idea of multiple smaller savings funds. That would have been handy this month for postage (yikes!), Rx and vitamins at the very least. Will give it a try.
I've added one sinking fund for 2025 to cover the medical co-pays. I've already decided how to fund it. I keep a separate home repair sinking fund from my emergency fund. I like having a designated fund for home repair that isn't part of my funds that I will rely on carrying me through being furloughed from my job, a real concern going into 2025. Since I know there will be home repairs needed from time-to-time it makes sense to me to have a targeted sinking fund for those expenses. I have a friend who keeps it all in one emergency fund. For her,, it would be too mentally taxing to keep track of multiple sinking funds. As long as you keep funding them, I don't think it matters what you call them.
Hi Nicola I love watching your progress in budgeting. I use the cash envelope system too, it's a brilliant method of keeping in budget and on track. May I make a suggestion for you in 2025? I would love an A6 size diary with a one page budget sheet at the end of each week where I could record my weekly spend/budget and 'net' amount. Could you make one for your Etsy store, I would buy it for sure. Thanks for great videos. Liz
Interesting to watch what other people do with their sinking funds. Mine aren’t changing a great deal, some need more cash per month which can be difficult, one category I have (cards/gifts - that’s small gifts if someone is ill etc) is getting less.
I need to add a few. “Football fees” for my sons sign on fees each August. “Vets” cos despite having insurance some vets require upfront payment and prob a couple more💜

Thank you so much 💜
Low cost suggestion: for the garden, winter sowing flower seeds. Easy, fun with the boys, and you will have many more flower varieties for the money.
Ooh I’ll have a look at that ☺️

Christmas and New Year blessings to you and your boys Nicola xxx
And to you 💜
I’ve recently given up my job to be a carer for my disabled son so I will be starting sinking funds next year, I’m excited 😊x
I hope it works out for you 💜

Fair enough! ☺️ I have a plan - just hoping it works 🤞

I was thinking about trying to grow raspberries! I’ll have to do some research. Garden is very small so would need to be in a pot I think.

Postage is so expensive!
Hi Nicola, hope your well. Maybe you could use some of your birthday money towards a beauty treatment. Have a bit of a pamper you deserve it. X
That’s not a bad idea 💜
Thank you for sharing 💖 😊 great ❤ sinking fund method for 2025 .planning ahead smart frugal living ❤❤❤❤
Thank you ☺️

Do you mean similar to what I make now, but smaller?

Sounds like a plan ☺️
More like a 'normal' diary but with extra cash budgeting sheets and yes smaller to carry in my handbag
I shall have a look ☺️
I pay my car tax on a monthly direct debit which helps
An emergency fund of £1000 is a hard struggle to achieve but easy to spend through unfortunately 😢
Yes 😕
👍🏼👀✨
You possibly could save £1,000 by doing the 5p savings challenge.
