As a arcade operator I can assure you that you can set the sensitivity settings. Tony Gonzalez got 520 on the machine at Tyson Ranch. Different machines different settings.

These machines are useless. I have seen heavyweight boxers punching it with sharp hooks and having a hard time reaching 900 and then one skinny drunken guy who was nearly 50 slapped it with his open hand and got 999. Using these machine to measure someone punching power is a joke.

its actually a lot to do with accuaracy and power combined. obvious the machine levitates upwards when u hit it so if you smash it at the bottom underneath the target on the bag you will get a higher score than hitting it in centre. Not rocket science is it sweetheart

I got in the low 900s before. Each machine is different. Some of them max out scores near 500 and others can go all the way up to 1000.

I wasn't being rude, just saying you can't use this to accurately "compare" the punching power of these guys. Jon Jones is a righty, but he fights from southpaw stance a lot.
technically running at the intended punch victim wouldn't make a difference but I can calculate how hard they actually hit the bags as your punch is debated by power = mass multiplied by velocity squared; (btw '*' means multiply)
Walkthrough:
to calculate the mass we look at how much McGregor weighed back then I found he was roughly 68kg x by his velocity which he raised his arm to the machine bag and moved his arm 1.3 metres upward (pixel measurement could be slightly off) 1.3metres, 1.3 squared = 1.69m2 divide be 0m2=1.69 x 68 = 114.92 = 115kg of punch and to turn it into force we do 115kg x 9.807 = newtons (the unit of measurement for force) so we have figured out that his mass is 68kg (rounded up) and the force is 1127.81N (or for simpler rougher results 1128N) so using an online calculator to find the acceleration we can determine that McGregor hit the bag at 16ms with 1127 Newtons of force
meaning what his actual score shouldve been is (1127 newtons into lbf (pounds of force) using online calculator)

so the bag was entirely wrong for McGregor and with Jon Jones I'll just tell you the numbers and answer:

It does not measure who hits the hardest becouse the machine get effected in witch way you punch and how much movment you put in on it and so on. How you hit makes a huge diffrence becouse you want it to snap back fast and hard. so even if you hit hella hard but hit it the wrong way it wont show as much as it should.

They are both different machines so they work differently in calculating scores. It's also more about the technique and angle you hit it rather than calculating the actual power of the punch thrown.
My right cross with no running start is 50 percent higher than Jon Jones and I'm supposed to be a natural welterweight. I haven't worked out full-time in 23 years. They didn't even have these machines last time I trained full time.

Yeah it really doesn't matter what anyone gets unless they all use the same machine. Like with any arcade game, you can adjust the sensitivity on these machines. That's why at some places people struggle to get 6-700 and at other locations people are getting high 900's. It's obvious the machine Conor used had a much lower sensitivity than the one Jon Jones used.
I feel like shorter guys have an advantage in these because they're punching up to the bag and the power follows through upwards whereas a taller guy will be punching it straight on and the power will go straight on and not upwards, where the censor is.

Ok everyone, yes, I understand how momentum works. However, in some cases, it doesn't help. As a former amateur boxer, we were taught that anytime you take a foot off the ground, you lose power. The NY State Fair has this same punching machine and year after year, guys would run at it and score horribly. A good boxer who knows how to use lateral movement will generate more power with his feet planted than running at it. Many of these kids and guys who "ran" at the punching machine, I told them to try standing stationary to punch it with their feet planted and they scored much higher. I've seen this year after year. The "Superman Punch" that is performed in mma doesn't have success for a knockout because the feet are not planted. I have proven my statement over and over.

Different approach with the punch too.
Every machine is calibrated differently. A machine at an espn event with professional fighters and athletes hitting it is going to be set way differently than one getting hit all day by non-trained adults and teenagers as in an arcade.
It’s not a fair comparison unless it’s on the same machine at the same time, plus the one the first dude hit looked kinda legit while the one Connor hit looked like some shit u see at the bar
These machines work in a strange way. My brother in law owns a bar and has one. He about 5'10, 160 lbs. I'm 6'1 230lbs. He can get a higher score by doing a standing hook than i can taking a full step into a punch. Its really not about how hard you hit it, but where you hit it. The machine reads how hard the bag goes up, so you want to punch upwards instead of straight into it. Once he taught me the right technique i was getting the same scores he was (but no higher!). We were hitting around 850 on it. But every machine is different.
