This channel makes me miss my Dell Inspiron 6400 (1505 in the US), which I used for 11.5 years before replacing it in 2018. It had a Core Duo T2400 1.83 Ghz, 4GB RAM (over the official 2GB max supported) and 250GB SSD (limited to SATA-1). What a champ.
i had a similar spec laptop, same cpu, but mine had only 2gb of ram and the 250gb drive was an HDD (are you sure yours was an ssd?). it had radeon mobility HD3200 discrete graphics which made it quite a little budget beast. unfortunately the gpu went a couple years ago when i was kinda playing around with it. by playing around i mean overclocking the hell out of it! it became so much faster! it was sad because it worked fine the last time i used it, then turned it off and it never saw the light of day again ;-; i would fix it, but that would probably cost more than buy a better spec used one nowadays.
My first laptop ( that I actually owned ) was a dell laptop with an i3 and 4gb of ram, it was really close to this one but the back was glossy. It was a 2nd or 3rd gen, I don’t remember. I used to play minecraft and need for speed world on it. Such a good times, on the summer it used to run almost 24/7 because the minecraft server that o had at the time. After 2 years the USB ports stopped working and dell gave me a refound, their customer support is really good. Maybe one day I’ll have another dell 😁. Great video man.
This would be a great productivity laptop. First thing I'd do is format the drive and install Linux in it. Then I'd roll up my sleeves and get to work. Like real work.
You should go a hackintosh video! Since you seem to love macs as well as budget laptops. It would be awesome to see you do some research on some nice older laptops that can run Mojave or Catalina. Hit me up if you wanna know any machines that I know that work.
6:44 YES! BeamNG is my absolute favorite game, surprised to see it running on such a low powered device given it's... Less than optimal optimisation, I remember trying it on a more powerful pc than that one (desktop i7-3770, igpu) and getting awful artefacts on gridmap, although that was at 1920x1080 so that may have been why.
I have wanted to play this game SO BAD, but I've never actually gotten to, due to the lack of GPU's of the computers I have access too. I have always wanted a gaming PC, but I can't buy one for a few more years, as I'm saving up for a car atm. Hopefully I can get one soon and play all the games that I've never gotten to experience.
My school loaned me a Latitude 3340, as most of our school work is online. Upon testing it, Game streaming and Android Emulator Games are actually playable. It's got 8 GB of RAM, a 128 Samsung SSD, an intel core i5 @ 1.70ghz, but sadly only 1 GB of VRAM, which makes almost any game on the Microsoft Store/Xbox Game Pass for PC, unplayable/uninstall able. There are very few games I can install due to the lack of VRAM and space needed, but I can get about 50-60 FPS on Bluestacks 5, running Clash of Clans, and about 80 FPS running Snapchat. It's an overall good PC, it can handle pretty intensive tasks well.
Some of these dells accept to raise the power limit using intel xtu. It may help a bit, combined with modded phdg drivers! The only case you won't be able to fix anything, is if it has "cpu current limit", wich sadly my dell 5537 with i7 4500u and radeon 8850m dedicated graphics had. That damn dell 5537 ran at 2.83ghz at the desktop, but if it had a load greater than 20% it would fall hard to 1.8ghz and stay there forever.
hey that's my laptop you were reviewing, it's still hold up for the past few years. Infact when i stumble upon this video i was watching it using the laptop LOL!
Even though the chip isn't socketed you can still upgrade it, motherboards for higher spec varients aren't too expensive and they should work with this, meaning you could probably get an i5 in there
Never knew that type of notebook could actually run Player Unknown Battlegrounds even if it's unplayable. Nice to know and I thumbs upped the video for quality content.
The problem of all of these CPU's was that unconfigurable TDP. If there was a option to give it 25W or even 35W. CPU would handle everything much better. Good that today in newest hardware it changed and we have configurable TDP.
I have a HP 250 G5 with an i3 with system graphics. This runs all of the games of 2010 well. I recommend Skyrim Legendary edition which works perfectly in low graphics. I would also recommend Bioshock, Mass Effect 2, Fallout New Vegas and Age of Empires 2 HD. These games would work well on your laptop well also.
My very first laptop was an inspiron from this era, with an almost similar chassis, but crappier specs. It’s on windows 10 now and my parents still use it for basic tasks.
A bit late, but if you use throttlestop you can often unlock the tdp limit and increase it. It does not always work, and even if it does the laptop might just be incapable of giving more power, but it is worth trying.
Well the Latitude 3000 series is their budget series. Seeing how the disassembly is really shows how much cheaper it is built compared to the 5xxx/E6xxx cousins.
Dell also have built in throttling, sometimes if you don't have all the correct Dell software, or haven't checked and set it up to the correct profiles, the laptop will just power throttle you to hell quickly. It is just the weak processor in this case, but can be annoying when it happens.
Actually for 99$ this is a great laptop, because it can easily take the tasks of a normal dude, writing and getting emails, play old and ‚some’ newer games, browsing the Internet, and it could probably also do some easy photo and or video editing.
The throttling issue could also be caused by running on battery, I had the same issue on Dell Latitude E6420. When the CPU was under heavy load it throttled to even 0.8 GHz but pluging the charger solved that every time
This is very similar to my old school laptop, the Dell Latitude 3340. Overall basically the same machine except with slightly different design, if you add an SSD and more RAM it can be a nice machine
@@shadowthefurryscientist My school since upgraded to 3300 laptops which are nicer in specs but have a considerably worse keyboard and trackpad. I stopped using the 3340 I had but they can still work decently for light gaming and such
