    Thank you for this. I hope that whenever I become an established cyber security/IT professional, I'll pass on the knowledge I learned and the things I went through to someone else. Having a mentor is absolutely crucial and what youre doing is definitely going to change some lives and motivate those that don't have the resources from a mentor. Appreciate you, bro.

    Awesome video! These are all solid certs that the industry really respects. But IMO, it’d be perfect to add some more practical and hands-on ones like CCD by CyberDefenders and CDSA, etc. Just my 2 cents.

    I always watch your videos, even though I don't always agree with your opinion - which I think makes the best combination for progress. One thing I think you should mention on your videos is that things might be different for other persons or circumstances. For example, me - CCNA put me on my superiors radars for the Information Security Officer role, and now I was put in training for the position. Also, doing the Sec+ is a breeze because I really worked my but for the CCNA and everything seems more familiar now. Do I think it's mandatory for everybody to take CCNA? Absolutely not! But boy, I found it more than useful and at least for me, it was both the key for success and a massive boost in confidence as I had a very serious imposter syndrome before taking it, as I've switched careers at 34 years old. All the best!

    • @UnixGuy
      @UnixGuy  Рік тому +6

      hey Lucian, so happy for you and your progress!
      Having different opinions is a sign that we can think without letting emotion get in the way, which is a sign of maturity at your end!
      Yes CCNA can absolutely help, we have to put in the effort anyway, whether we learn the topics through ccna or directly through sec+ or even perhaps eJPT, learning is learning, I just try to offer alternative faster paths - that’s all. The paths that I recommend are not the only paths
      I’m very happy for you with your progress, changing a career is difficult but you did it! well done and it’s time to celebrate my friend!

    I agree with you, except the OSCP part. Yes for newbies its really hard. But it's entry pentesting cert still. It does not mean its entry level IT cert by no means! For some folks like me (sysadmin and devops background) it can be the shortest path to pentest interview. Intentionally saying interview and not job cos this will (HR recognition of this cert), get your foot in the door.
    I got my pentesting interview only cos having that cert. It's difficult, but highly valued. Now im in for OSEP (which suddenly feels kinda easy after all experience from real job except it still has a bit if CTF parts in it.)
    I saw your other videos tho and can relate to lot of opinions so you definetly have a new sub here!

Then I will finish the CCNP, which I have also been studying for since I got the CCNA. I was then thinking about pursuing the OSCP straight away. Should I get a pentest cert before doing OSCP? 🇵🇭 Just as a heads up for fellow Filipino takers of the (ISC2) CC. I finished the course in a week. However, there is no online testing facility. They scrapped it due to "unsatisfactory results" that could somewhat tarnish their image. I finished the course, but did not take the exam because of geographical considerations - have to go to capital region (40 km away) to take the test at night (6 pm to 8 pm). Travelling to the capital region is not so good for me as I live in the provinces. Oh well. "Sayang" as we say.

    Thanks, you have been guiding me since last year. Regarding CISA and CISSP you can sit the exam without the 5 year experience. Is it a waste for newcomer with only other certificates like sec+, ejpt, cysa+ to do those 2 exams? I plan to sit them eventually knowing I won't be awarded the cert just acknowledgement of passing the exam. Any benefit in hiring managers' eyes?

      hey mate,
      of course there is value, they’re challenging certifications but they focus on security management!
      If you choose a specific security specialisation, you can also do other certifications meanwhile while you acquire 4 yrs of experience (years pass quickly)

    Being a customer success manager of a cyber security software vendor, what advice do you have to get into the actual "cyber security work"?
