From national point of view the gold stays very well where it is right now. It's the corporation interest to extract it. Romanian National Bank said it don't need to increase gold reserve at the moment. What else? Our gold stays, they must go.

1/30/2000, a dam holding contaminated waters burst at a mining works in Bozinta Mare, Romania, and 100,000 cubic meters of cyanide-contaminated water (containing an estimated 100 tonnes of cyanide) spilled over farmland and then into the Someş River. The gold mining company, Aurul, was a joint venture of Australian Esmeralda Exploration. The pollution in the Danube, killed large quantities of fish in HU. The spill has been called the worst environmental disaster in Europe since Chernobyl....

    Congratulations for this live debate!
It was much needed, as the TV in Romania does not show the other side (the activists' side) of the story AT ALL!! It's like we're living in a country owned by RM Gold Corporation.
And the biggest problem this country has is that its people believe everything that is aired.. and nothing else much.. So, from the start, this battle is lost if we subject this debate to a vote :(
BUT, thew informed ones will probably have a vast majority against this project!

Now I like "The Stream" but I would like to be able to view other news stories from your network but for some reason they have been blocked for your US viewers.

Beny is also an investor of Gabriel Resources Ltd., suspected of bribing Romanian officials in order to obtain mining licences required for Rosia Montana.
Way to go Beny you are doing a great job making Jews look good around the world especially in Romania.

Also remember the environmental disaster in Hungary with waste material flooding the cities and destroying the environment and polluting rivers, also the previous disaster at Satu Mare where there was a massive flooding of cyanide. No more.

A lot of people will earn a lot of money out of this. In fact, they already have. Many local jobs have already been given and the investors have made huge profits already by playing on the share price differentials. It's already been a gold mine for some and will continue to be so.

Okay lets look at what you said..." It's a closed circuit use of the cyanide so it won't harm the proximity areas " Okay so 100 ton spill of cyanide makes the 2nd worst disaster in Europe after Chernobyl. Now we have largest gold deposits in Europe that will use 12 THOUSAND tons of cyanide a year and you are telling me its not a problem O.O

@ 38:31. the alternative for the state is to collect TVA . Right now, the tva collected amount only 20% of the total sum, on other words, they can boost the state revenue by 80% if they do their job properly. Corruption is problem #1 in Romania - so no healty economic measures can be taken prior to solving rampant corruption. Of course, a sold-out politician won't do anything to eradicate this pest. And Mihnea Blidariu has right, the revolution just started. We want them to respect the law!

Unfortunately they are not as prepared as Mr. Hosu, and, futhermore, they are acting from their hearts. Emotions and debates, not the best cocktail.

I'd read that the Roşia Montană mine could add more than $24 billion USD to Romania’s GDP over its life. It will mean jobs for local people and revivce the 2000 year old mining tradition in that part of Romania. Surely, anything that indicates to the rest of europe that Romania is “open for business” is a good thing? #RosiaMontana

I realise that. The pro RMGC people weren't much good either. None of their English is good enough to debate an issue, where speed and precision are required. None of them have probably had any experience/training of this type of debate and so they don't know to communicate like a politician doing an elevator pitch -- get the key points across in just a few seconds.
But, overall, I think the anti RMGC camp came out stronger, partly because of the supportive tweets that kept coming in

RMGC, will leave us without 4 mountain tops and with 2 lakes filled with toxic cyanide. Now please tell me how will stripping 4 mountains from the face of the earth going to sustain the mining tradition for more years to come?
How will 2 lakes filled with cyanide prevent us from having acid rains and poisoning even more of our environment ?
I guess we will have to get accustomed to eating cyanide for breakfast.

You want another piece of the puzzle?
Look at the shareholders of Rosia Gold Corporation:
BSG Resources - Beny Steinmetz just google 2 articles in newyorker and theguardian
They "managed" the ressources of Guinea, I want to see the nice effects of that - and the improvement in Guinea life.
According to the story in newyorker they debarked in Guinea with suitcases full of cash to buy the souls of local politicians.
Shame on the ones that let themselves bought - as these 2 guys interviewed !

For a blick in the future - just look at Kosovo case: Ferronikeli - with the same company shareholder. There is an interesting article in Haaretz : "Israeli black hole in Kosovo". These people from the mining companies would like that their family and children leave in such toxic and alien environments ?

Seriously now, if you cut down all trees in Romania it would be much better than what RMGC proposes. The trees would grow back in a generation, but nothing will survive in the 8km hole in RM

You said "This cyanide thing is irrelevant" Are you obtuse? That sounds to me like its not a problem, capiche?
Come on dude dont go around saying dumb things like that after what I have just told you in the other comments

  • @capmarvelous
    @capmarvelous 11 років тому

SO lets see...you say it wont harm the proximity areas...no harm means not a problem in my book, if something would harm me or the environment and thus by default harms me again it is a PROBLEM Sherlock!! Not only that its a problem for ROMANIA and surrounding countries like HUNGARY and SERBIA. Maybe its not a problem to you but its a problem to a whole lot of people

  • @capmarvelous

If they want the ore let them ship the earth out of Romania and let them leech the gold out with cyanide in canada where the owners of this operation are ie canada gold corporation.
