If there was one word that might encapsulate the essence of the Christian life, it might be upstream. So much of following Jesus entails swimming upstream against the tides of culture, whether it’s the general culture around us or even the general church culture in certain ways. In writing to persecuted believers, Peter reminded them of the profoundly beautiful salvation they enjoyed in Jesus, then talked about ways that was to be lived out. It’s in the living it out that we have to fight to go upstream at times. Over the last two weeks, we saw how Peter encouraged Christians to have a general posture of submission to governing authorities, then he also exhorted Christian slaves to have a similar attitude with their masters. In our text for this week, Peter addresses marriage. Spend some time this week reading the text. It’s guaranteed to elicit a reaction.
