I speak danish and I didn't understand a thing that this woman said. You really just have to learn Norwegian before being able to speak and understand it. It's not just a piece of cake like many think it is.
As a Swede, I can actually understand him fairly well! I think Nikolaj spoke VEEEEEEERY slowly on purpose and when he does that, I can actually pick up the words he is trying to say! Very impressive how we swedes and danes can sometimes communicate (with the right accent and speed of speech ofc). Danish language surpringsly enough has actually MUCH more similar words and grammar to Swedish language than Norwegian language. It's just that the Danes are pronouncing it like they want to swallow all the vowels and melt all the vowels into one - which makes it harder to understand what they try to say when they speak too fast under stress situations. I think if the Swedes and the Danes can be a bit more patient to each other and take their times to actually listen and pay attention, then they can definitely speak to each other without including English. But the key is patient and time - which many dont have nowadays.
I agree. To me it feels wrong if a swedes starts to speak english to me. But then again - I have absolutely no problems understanding both norwegian and swedish. I even understand several of the dialects (Trøndersk was difficult...)😍
And as a German speaker, I can understand some of the Danish. For example, the word for work is Arbeit in German, and from hearing Nikolaj say it, the Danish is strongly similar (or identical.)
Ikke start en konkurranse du vet du kommer til å tape svenske. Grammatikken til dansk og norsk er identisk, derfor kommer en danske til å lett forstå hva jeg skriver. Du derimot er en svensk imbesil
This is not true though. Norwegian and Danish is much closer, we use pretty much all the same words and our grammar is identical, it's just the pronounciation that is way different. But after 1-2 weeks of just listening to Danish, for me at least it sounds like a someone from Kristiansand who's drunk af.
Good question! Norwegian and Danish are pretty similar in written language, though oral is pretty different. Norwegian and Danish people do usually understand each other when they speak there own language to each other. Swedish is more similar to the Norwegian side. Usually Danish and Swedish people do not understand each other very well. I understand Danish, Norwegian and Swedish, they are similar, but not really. I comparison is like German and Dutch.
The three Scandinavian languages (Danish, Norwegian and Swedish) are very similar but the pronunciations are different enough for it to take some effort to communicate with each other. I'm Danish and I can easily read articles and stuff in Swedish and especially in Norwegian. Norwegian writing is basically just like Danish with typos. Swedish is a bit more different but still easy enough to read. Norwegian and Swedish are more similar when it comes to pronunciations and the "rhythm" of the languages. They both sort of have a "singing" thing going on, it's very up and down in tones. Danish has been way more influenced by German since they're directly connected to each other so Danes have a way more "flat" pronunciation than Norwegians and Swedes, who were more "isolated" up north. Danes, Norwegians and Swedes are able to understand each other if they speak slowly and clearly and put in a bit of effort. Of course there'll be a word here and there that's just completely different but you can work that out and describe the meaning of it if you really want to. A Swede or a Norwegian will have a *way* easier time moving to Denmark than someone from Spain, Greece or whatever since they basically already know large parts of the language without ever actually learning it, the only thing that's *really* different is the pronunciation of things and they tend to pick that up fairly quickly when surrounded by native speakers. My brother (A Dane) dated a Swedish girl for a while and they'd just speak Danish and Swedish to each other. It's all about exposure to the other languages and just getting used to how they pronounce certain things. The words are often the same but just pronounced differently. The "singing" of Norwegian and Swedish also takes some getting used to for Danes, and the "flat" Danish pronunciations take some getting used to for Swedes and Norwegians. The "rhythm" is just so different that it can be hard to tell where one word ends and the next one starts if you're not used to it. When speaking your own language you're not even thinking about it but you're used to listen for certain things to figure out where the spaces between words are and if that's different in another language, it ends up sounding like it's one long stream of words. :)
Yeah, they are speaking norwegian and danish :D Maybe 90% of our words are basically the same. We just pronounce them differently and swedish people have more different words from danish than norwegian and they pronounce the words a lot more different also, but we can understand the most important things of the sentences for the most part.
Yeah, Norwegian, Danish and Swedish are mutually intelligible languages. Although, Swedes have a harder time understanding Danes more than Norwegians do.

In that case it would make more sense to create a "Scandinavian standard language" which all 3 countries get to learn so we all can communicate with eachother without some confusion. Maybe similar to that all Chinese learns Mandarin I guess.
But it's usually not the written language that is the problem, it's the spoken one. There are so many dialects and ways of pronouncing stuff so even the Scaninavian standard language would have many dialects which would beat the purpose of it I guess.
Can Norwegians understand Danes and the other was around?
Ruby Abc well most of the time, yeah. The Scandinavian languages are quite similar actually
Mathilde Christensen yes I know that, but isn’t Danish harder to understand than the other Scandinavian languages?
The Danish are the underdogs because Swedish and Norwegian are too similar..they tease danes that they drag the language while speaking "langsomt" But un essense it is the same thing they are all mutually intelligible👍
Norwegian is close to written danish, but close to spoken swedish. Swedish people understand norwegian pretty easy and danish people understand norwegian pretty easy. Swedish and danish people understand each other, but we have to concentrate and speak slow.
Yes

Din kommentar om at du er dansk, er totalt pinlig.... det er typisk små landes befolkninger, at komme med sådan en kommentar.. hvis der er en video med Tom Cruise, er der jo ikke nogle amerikanere der skriver... "Jeg er AMERIKANER", vel? - men det fatter du nok ikk....
I thought learning German is hard, but this would harm my tongue 😂
I thought I would be able to understand a bit of this because Danish has Germanic words I think but nooooope no chance
By the way he can also speak German quite well.
Germain is surely the less hardest language compared to Dutch, danish, swedish.
@@hamsternuggetz it's north germanic, not north german. You know there is a difference right?
