Celebrity hairdresser Sam McKnight recreates Brigitte Bardot's Sixties bedhead look for Get The Gloss.
If you've ever picked up a glossy magazine cover and hankered after the sexy, touchable dream-like hairstyle on the front, or picked out a celebrity on the red carpet for her flattering but goddess-like hair then the chances you are probably looking at the handiwork of Sam McKnight.
THE BARDOT LOOK
"With any iconic hair look, the silhouette is very important -- that's not just the outline of the hair, but the way it frames the face. You could almost take a cardboard cutout of this hair and know instinctively that it's Brigitte Bardot's," says Sam. "The important elements of this look are 1) the way it falls on to the face, and 2) the height. To modernise this look and avoid it becoming dated I'd say today's version should also be a little less dense than it was in the Sixties, less fried (Bardot used to peroxide her hair, which wouldn't have left it in silky condition). Hair today should be more conditioned than hers was."
The Bardot bedhead in six steps
1 Start with damp, clean hair and spritz throughout with texturizing and volumizing spray. Try Fudge Salt Spray, £11.45 (bit.ly/1oiN0zz).
Rough-dry hair until dry and then blow dry the product into the hair using a strong bristle brush and a powerful hairdryer. Sam uses a Parlux 3200 hairdryer, £72.89 (bit.ly/1mZbrXG), the daddy of all hairdryers, from sallyexpress.com. It's also key to have a strong hair-grabbing bristle brush such as those by Kent, from £8.50 (bit.ly/1ys7oYO). Brush through.
2 Taking inch-wide sections of hair, spray each section with hairspray before winding on to large Velcro rollers all over the head. Sam uses Pantene Pro V Volume and Body Hairspray,£2.99 (bit.ly/1CmFADx), and Velcro rollers, £3.19 for a pack of 6 from (bit.ly/1ys94S1).
3 Keep in for as long as possible -- a minimum of 40 minutes. Alternatively, use a portable hood dryer to reduce drying time. Just place it over your head, plug the tube into your hairdryer nozzle and put on a low heat and away you go! Try the Gold n Hot Jet Bonnet, £16.99 (bit.ly/1ys94S1).
4 After 15-20 minutes remove the rollers and blow dry the fringe forward in order to create face-framing sexiness.
5 Next, taking sections on the crown and the top of the head, backcomb hair at the base using a comb and hairspray to create root-lift. Smooth over hair lightly with a bristle brush to avoid crushing the height. Sam uses Wella Stay Essential Finishing Spray, £10.50 (bit.ly/1rdGhwy) and a Mason and Pearson hairbrush, £39.50 (bit.ly/1s6I9s3).
6 Tease hair lightly between your fingers to create a bedhead texture

this is how i want my hair...all the time...bridgette bardot is one of my idols
or do what i do.. blowdry ur hair with ur head down, shake often and rough it up with ur hands- then while ur head is still down and ur hair is almost all dried- apply hairspray and begin blowdrying standing straight up now. you'll notice ur hair just looks insainly messy, dont worry, just brush thru with ur hands VERY lightly- puff up the back like theres no tomorrow and done!

honestly, i'm not impressed. so much work for such a simple look.
I have naturally straight hair.. and not really much volume. Sometimes I have to put my hair into a ponytail because if looks so flat and unnatural the way it falls.. But I want to try this hairstyle out! Maby it will work :)

Personally my hair get verrrry smooth nad flat when I use a oil mask (just oil in hair for a few hours and then wash out with shampoo until the oil is out)
And even more straight if I use a doy hair mask. Basically I just mixed conditioner with different oils (olive, calendula, rizinus..) and add a spoonful honey to it. And it is really good for my hair, maby it could work on yours?
A friend has curly hair and uses the John Frienda conditioner for curly hair.. and that stuff is amazing. I once tried it .. like woah^^
There are also forums I think the english one is called longhairnetwork or so? You can open a thread there and ask the other users about how you could get it flat (without heat)
If you have pretty naturally thick hair it's easy enough to just backcomb,lol. I'd just work with what you got, I find hairstyles with thin hair usually (not always) end up not so great on me but the big hair like this I can do cuz my hairs so thick lol

Very cool video, love the BB look, its very sexy and this girl looks alot like she did in the 60s. I think Brigittes hair was naturally wavey with a bit curl at times like Farrah Fawcett they both had thick hair. Bangs always looks carefree and youthful also, which I think looks great on older women also like Goldie hawn and Suzanne Somers.

Aint nobody got time for that. I really can't be bothered to spend that time, and generally I wouldn't have the time to do all those steps to do my hair, especially if you then add in the makeup :| But... take out the rollers and don't do the blow drying at the beginning.. just go to the teasing, maybe that'll do.
