- "Valley of Heroes" memorial complex in Tjentište is located within the Sutjeska National Park. This entire valley has a special significance in the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as the former state of Yugoslavia.
After gathering the troops, the Germans started the offensive on May 15, 1943. Special German forces ( 127 000 soldiers) were sent to this place to neutralize around 17,000 partisans (liberation army) of Yugoslavia. It was a battle of epic proportions where in the end about 7500 partisans gave their lives.
Sutjeska National Park as well as the entire Valley of Heroes (Dolina Heroja) are dedicated to the heroes of that battle. This solo hike of mine tries to show the whole valley and show you a part of Bosnia and Herzegovina that is perhaps the most beautiful for lovers of hiking and backpacking.
Mount Zelengora, where this monument is located, is, as many claim, the most beautiful mountain in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
If you are looking for a cheap vacation in Europe, Bosnia and Herzegovina is your choice. Mountains, lakes, picturesque cities, among the cheapest countries in Europe, fantastic traditional cuisine and a lot more in the south of Europe.

Not only beautiful images and drone shots, but wonderful story. Each different part of the world involved in the second world war has its own fascinating story and former Yugoslavia has definitely one of the most, if not the most, interesting in Europe in my opinion.
