Just wanted to quickly say thank you. It’s been a journey. I will miss these lives with you, Geoff and Graham. Tutor2U has been such a help. It’s kinda sad its ending. I was wondering if jim has shares in sainsburys? And do you have any pets? Thank you again. Wish you all ALL the best
@@tutor2u-official ah ok cool. My business teacher thought u did cause of all the case studies on sainsburys u put in the papers u make. And your dog sounds adorable.
Hi Jim - big fan. Tommorow can you please go into a little bit more detail around overtrading and synergy? I know overtrading was touched on in this but a little more support and clarification would be great, much appreciated g
Thanks, Jim and team for all your work it's been so useful if I was running out of time should I make an evaluation statement at the end of each paragraph and bullet point what I want to say?
Great question. If possible, you should try to get an overall judgement (conclusion) into your response for all Qs worth 16 marks or above. the overall judgement is weighted more importantly than evaluating as you go. However, it doesnt take long to add a PiE sentence to each argument, so still worth doing if you have 45-60 seconds spare!
Hi Elisha. yes the overall structure is the same. However, don;t forget for the 24-marker, it is an "open question" (like the 16-markers in Paper 2). So you need to consider other business situations / contexts in addition to the Paper 3 case study.
Where relevant, absolutely. Adds depth to your analysis. but dont forget that application is crucial too - so make sure to apply a theory or model to the case study
Hi Asiya. You don't have to refer to the case study, however there is no downside to doing this as it signals you are APPLYING the case! I often like to mention the Appendix number where relevant. E.g. as Appendix C shows.... Only takes a few seconds, but it shows to the examiner that you are using the case study - which is why it is provided!
@@tutor2u-official I'll take your word for it. Thanks a lot for all the help, been learning from your videos since y10 that I started doing business in scl and then took it as a subject to 6th form. May God bless you and your team 🙏🏻💪🏼
So for the 24 mark open question is the structure? Yes- this is true for the case study situation No- this is not the case for other businesses (and bring in other examples) Conclude
Absolutely Emily! For your "Yes it is true for the case study" you always have the option to extend that paragraph slightly to mention other similar situations in other business contexts if you wish. you do have a few extra minutes in a 24-marker. However, for many students Q6 is a rush as time is running out, so it good to know that a structure as you suggest is doing to the job!
hiyaa Jim!! Sorry just to check.. I thought for 12 markers you had to do a conclusion still but it's just not AS lengthy as the 16 and 20 and 24 markers?
No conclusion needed for 12-markers. No evaluation marks. So a 12-marker is the same structure as a 9-marker. You only need evaluation for 16 marks and above {jim]
3 paras is absolutely fine Harry. I think the 1+1 + Conclusion structure is the most efficient, for three reasons. (1) you can write to the required depth, perhaps using the extra couple of minutes per argument to add in some extra application! (2) There is less risk of drifting from the question with a weak, 3rd paragraph (3) it leaves another minute or two to really go to town in the judgement
There's no right or wrong approach Greg. My argument for going with 1+1+ conclusion is to give you time to develop points in depth with lots of application, and then leave time for a fully justified conclusion (with some added application!). I think the danger with 2+2+Conclusion is that one or more of the arguments might lack depth, which can weaken the overall impression of the response. however, if you can write really fast and stay focused on the question, 2+2+conclusion should work well too!
Just 4 more marks really. Both the 16 & 20 markers require balanced arguments in context with a supported judgement. The 20-marker tends to be a decision-style question, so the judgement (conclusion) needs to focus on that
Apart from 4 marks, the 20-marker tends to be a "decision" style question. Eg which option should they take? or was a decision a good one? So the conclusion (judgement) needs to be focused on that specific evaluation task.

Hi Jim, when referring to the case study should we state 'as the case study suggests' or just include the info
Hi Asiya. You don't have to refer to the case study, however there is no downside to doing this as it signals you are APPLYING the case! I often like to mention the Appendix number where relevant. What dyou reckon the grade boundaries gonna be like, roughly
Roughly where they were in 2019 I reckon. I've seen so much evidence of well-prepared, strong students in 2022.

what does PECAN PIE stand for
should you use chains of analysis on your however point ?
You mean the PiE sentence Nicola? I wouldn't, because that would be creating a new argument
So for the 24 mark open question is the structure?

Glad you think so! Hope things went well today Matty. Application, Application, Application.
I cannot think of any argument points for question 3, what is there to talk about for both sides of the argument?
hiyaa Jim!! Sorry just to check.. I thought for 12 markers you had to do a conclusion still but it's just not AS lengthy as the 16 and 20 and 24 markers?

For the 24m questions would u recommend 3 paragraphs or just the 2

So we only need to do one point for and against in 20 markers? I’ve been doing two for and two against in 16 markers. Am I doing too much then?

Hi Jim,
For the 16, 20 and 24 markers, can we use pestle analysis for the evaluation (Covid, brexit, economic factors etc)?
PESTLE is certainly one framework that can be brought into an evaluation, perhaps to support an "it depends" line of evaluation.
What's the difference between 16 and 20 mark questions? (Is it feasible to use data manipulation in 16s with having less time?)
Just 4 more marks really. Both the 16 & 20 markers require balanced arguments in context with a supported judgement. The 20-marker tends to be a decision-style question, so the judgement (conclusion) needs to focus on that
