This video was really well produced and the game looks great. I was all up for pledging on kickstarter but I think the price point is high when you factor shipping plus taxes (where applicable). As a UK resident the total costs is nearly $200 Inc of shipping and taxes. The stretch goals are very minimal addons currently , most of which aren't kickstarter exclusive and I struggle to see the benefit in paying twice as much for a game that has little material difference to the retail version. I will just wait for its retail release and pick up then.
Curious about 4player mode, overall seems to be a nice game. Marketing as "multiple victory conditions" would be false though. Both sides have clear one condition, though a bit flexible way to get there. That is a little bit of a let down. Rest looks quite fine, little shallow, but fine. Absolutely loving the IP so thanks to the devs for giving us opportunity to test through TTS. Most likely will back the project.
The shipping costs are eye watering... and frankly putting me on the fence. Love the book, enjoyed the films, not sure that I need this at the price they are asking.

Minor point, but the Spacing Guild token is referred to as the Landsraad token numerous times throughout the playthrough. The black token (with the three circles) is the Spacing Guild, the red and black circle on a yellow field is the CHOAM token, and the black in white circle on the blue field is the Landsraad token.
I don't understand why in the first round Chase got to keep the harvester in the area that was also occupied by one of Shira's legions. Seems like a pretty big oversight that Francesco should have caught.
Looks like a lot of fun! I’d love to see the designers make a Wheel of Time game with the same system. It works so well for capturing the theme of a fantasy world

Dice for actions, asymmetric factions and win conditions, two card decks for each faction, unit stacking rules that with regular and elite units, leaders (named and generic), etc. I believe both games shared core designers as well. It’s not WoT, but it works well if you want a fantasy themed version of this.
CMON is a big company, but it’s just so much cheaper to and easier (no travel) to do this through table top simulator. Don’t get me wrong, I agree that you don’t completely get a sense of the scope, table presence, magnitude as playing in person. Since the KS is next week, they must have some physical prototypes, I would figure.

Which often means doing things that are not in the best interest of the consumer especially when they know that with an IP like Dune….the spice…er…I mean money will flow. Did they lose backers because of a lack of physical prototype for Marvel Zombies? Maybe, but that project was extremely successful. Again, I heard about the shipping debacle of Marvel Zombies, but this is the result when companies are narrowly focused on Capitalism and neglect their fan base/customers imo. I realize molds are very expensive but with the prevalence of 3D printers, I am sure they could have created some prototypes and simply said “These are not final production, etc, etc but I think CMON tends to like to put out some decent miniatures even in their prototypes like in the videos for Marvel United. Perhaps, they couldn’t showcase the miniatures because they needed final approval from the Frank Herbert estate. I dunno.

Your gameplay convinced me that the nature of the game is not the epic stature of War of the Ring but rather similar to its three skirmish affiliates, The Battle of Five Armies and the two scenarios for the WOTR v1 expansion, Gondor and Rohan. It's quite clear: Unit placement, how characters enter play, unit cap in one area and even the use of vehicles. The theme is also right for the format: it's the Desert War, which is a snapshot of the greater conflict and story; a scenario. I'm even suspecting that maybe Nepitello is the head of these affiliates and it shows?

I am really looking forward to this game, but the amount of luck scares me. Drawing cards, tokens (two different types), sietch values (if I understood well, that they are determined by chance), rolling dice (actions + combat + storm at the end of the turn) and I don´t see many ways to mitigate much of it. What are your thoughts on that?
Have you played War of the Ring? It will be very similar to that, in that it's definitely not a pure strategist's game, but more of a narrative experience with a fair bit of luck. If that doesn't sound like you're sort of game then you probably are right to pass. To address the dice rolling concerns you have, the action dice luck is not too much of a problem, as they are flexible and can be used for plenty of things, they are more to add variance between play throughs, and to stop everyone just taking the same perfectly optimal opening moves every game. The combat dice add a bit of uncertainty to battles. You aren't sure of victory even with superior numbers. You can mitigate this through the use of leaders and their abilities, or by ensuring you have sufficient overwhelming numbers to guarantee an attrition victory. The sietch values are fixed, but their locations are randomised to ensure the Harkonnens have to search and find the optimal sietches to destroy. If they weren't then the game would become all about the Harkonnens rushing the known optimal sietches and ignoring the rest. In regards to the storm damage and worm damage to troops, this could have been mitigated by the Harkonnen player by attacking from the plateau where worms do not attack and legions are safe from storm damage, or ensuring they had an action die remaining after combat resolved to be able to move onto the adjacent safety of the plateau.
Why does CMON do a kickstarter they have enough money to make a product from finish to start without a kickstarter. This is just a way to wring out more money from the customers and delay the product release. When it becomes a real product that can be bought in stores at normal prices then I will consider it.
How strict are those kickstarter exclusives? Cause the cards and figurines are already made... bit shitty to only use it on the backers. Is it common they'll be for sale in an expansion?
I passed on Marvel Zombies, passed on Cyberpunk and didn’t back a CMON game this year so far…this one though I gotta get. I hope it’s just a core box with everything in it. If they ruin this with a dozen add ons I will 100% pass though.

This is more in the veins of The Battle of Five Armies and therefore much simpler and less epic than War of the Ring, I suspect they promote it this way because the former (and its predecessors: the two scenarios of the expansion for the first WOTR) never got that popular...

TBOFA has a fairly complicated battle machanic, I especially like the damage tokens dealt to armies, but this here streamlined system could make for quick and fun games, and with the Possible Futures variants, the alternative leaders, offer some interesting replayability options, although the characters seem less different than in TBOFA...
Either it was an oversight, or this was against the rules as described in the WIP Rulebook but the way the Sandworms were placed in relation to the harvesters during Step 3 was not really correct - or the Rulebook is wrong.
The number of times Shira had to flip the tokens to see how many units were placed should tell you how big of a pain that will be when playing the actual game in physical form. I honestly believe that a extra dry erase map with a mini version of the map would be super helpful so the player can mark that behind a shield and doesn’t have to keep flipping over tokens hundreds of times

There's little reason to expect this to look different from Rising Sun or Ankh when it comes to gameplay/expansion content. I suppose they could throw that off by having a 2-foot tall sandworm sculpt that functions as a water feature by vomiting blue water during the game. They could do some junky bling ala He-Man with plastic terrain. But, the board looks really good, and terrain would reduce the functionality. I'm sure CMON can find a way to milk backers for $600 with this. But, I don't think they'll find a way to do it with gameplay.

I thought Leaders were separate since they don't count towards the total units in a space and since they had thier own die facing to move armies with. Well, this is from the creators of War of the ring, one of the best two player games out there. If this is anything close to WotR, it will be up there at the top of the two players games list as well. The gameplay had many similar elements, not sure if I would prefer this to WoTR though, I have to see (or read) more. Of course, knowing CMON, this will be produced bit differently than WOTR. I would assume bigger minis in CMON style (WOTR minis are quite small compared to "normal" cmon stuff). Maybe more other bling as well. I don't mind that too much though, as long as the game is great. Another great 2 player game is Ankh. Also blinged to the top, but still great game.

@@jonny1speed85one correction, worms can attack into plateaus, but not move into them. They can’t attack into mountains.

Dune Imperium is realy good though! Maybe not as visually pleasing as War with all its' minis, but mechanically a really good game!
Avalon Hill's Dune includes content from the sequels.

In war of the ring you can move armies with leader or army dice, and armies can include leaders (even when moved with army dice).

Thanks for reminding me how much I hated this movie. Hard pass for me.
This looks like another garbage game with a lot of pretty plastic for people to paint.
Well, this is from the creators of War of the ring, one of the best two player games out there. If this is anything close to WotR, it will be up there at the top of the two players games list as well. The gameplay had many similar elements, not sure if I would prefer this to WoTR though, I have to see (or read) more.
Of course, knowing CMON, this will be produced bit differently than WOTR. I would assume bigger minis in CMON style (WOTR minis are quite small compared to "normal" cmon stuff). Maybe more other bling as well. I don't mind that too much though, as long as the game is great.
Another great 2 player game is Ankh. Also blinged to the top, but still great game.
Hope for a German version. Otherwise it is a skip for me
