Imagine prime Gerrard in Klopp’s team as a box to box midfielder, my god

Then you could compare him to Lampard n Scholes both in dominant teams.
He would get 20 assists and 20 goals in current Klopp set up.
We would be breaking records left right and centre.

We are blessed to have him at rangers. He will be as good a manager if not better as a player. Genuinely believe he will be one of the best of both of all time.

06 really was crazy, after scoring a 20 years rocket...dude steps up in the last minute from 35 yards....I watch the goal quite a lot, everything about that goal sums up Stevie and his career, when the chips are down, who's there to sort it out? who's name ends up being screamed by fans and commentators alike ..."GERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRARD!!!!!!" (it's a name meant to be screamed as goals fly in)
The goal against Boro 04/05, possibly the sweetest shot he ever hit, that goal is a thing of beauty, speaking of beauty, lets not forget the goal against Olympiakos to keep us in the competition "OOOOH YOU BEAUTY!!!!!! WHAT A HIT SON!, What a hit"
The goal when Aquilani falls over (can't even remenber who it's against) and Stevie appears as if to say "get out the way, this is how its done" BOOOOOM
    Legend

Amazing memories fellas. We were all in different parts of the world when both the champions league final (2005) and the FA Cup final the year later. Great days

in the fa cup final I remember Alonso had a poor game. He lofted a pass to Steven just before half time and it went over his head. Gerrard Scorpio kick controlled it and brought it down so well. I always remember watching that thinking wow

Gerrard's performance v West Ham in the final was great, two quality goals and a quality assist, plus a load of great passes and driving runs through the midfield, but the opposition weren't great to be honest. Sure, they scored three goals, but the three goals included a shocking OG from Carragher after a weak cross, a shocking handling error from Reina after a weak shot, and a mis-hit cross from Paul Konchesky that unintentionally flew into the goal. They finished 9th in the league and were captained by a 21 year old Nigel Reo Coker.
Taking into account the quality of opposition, I think the Real Madrid performance was peak Gerrard for me. I think he got substituted fairly late on in that game, so maybe couldn't call it a true "90 minute" performance, but from the first minute, despite all the world class players on both teams that day, Gerrard just looked like an adult playing with a bunch of kids. He was absolutely insane that day for me. Everything he did was genuinely world class, and the two goals he scored were a mere bonus to the sheer quality of his all-round performance.

For me, Istanbul is Stevie's best and defining game as a captain, and the 06' FA Cup is Stevie Gerrard's flat-out best performance.

    quick story,
My ma waited in line at Anfield the day the new kit came out, for a Gerrard shirt (no17), that season he switched to the number 8 after the kit release... still wore it with pride tho. up the reds!

One of the best performances or cameos ive ever seen from any player was stevie g against napoli in the Europe league under Kenny Dalglish. Its a performance that rarely gets mentioned for some reason.

That's the problem though. His strength was also his major weakness as he couldn't handle the pressure of playing for big teams with pressure to get results.
On paper England were a big international team and he constantly let the team down.
He could do better in a team with much less expectation where the pressure was off.
Anytime Liverpool did have a strong team that were at the time considered favourites he failed, the pressure was obviously too much for him in those situations I.e 2002/03 Liverpool were made favourites at the start of the season by many so called experts yet they finished 5th and were eliminated from the champions league in the first round group stage.
2008/09 Liverpool won nothing but people thought that was a good enough team to win things they did worse than ManUtd in every competition that season.
2013/14 They were in pole position to win the Prem with just a few games remaining until his howler vs Chelsea etc...etc...etc...he never made already good team's any better therefore MrBadBackpasses wasn't a special player.
He may have had offers from big clubs which seems to be the argument his fans give for why he didn't win much silverware and never won the Prem but there's been loads of flop signings big clubs have made, he would've no doubt been another flop at a big club even if he got at least 10 games at a club who'd win "a" title it wouldn't have meant he helped that team he would've only helped his own personal honour list but make no mistake even if he had joined another club he wouldn't have been there long and he would've returned to Liverpool where he felt the most comfortable (but still wouldn't win any prems with them).

Why does Fowler state the obvious here talking about the 2006 FAcup final like it was a random suggestion as if it was a practice game that no one would remember lol of course the 3 main games in Gerrard's career were Olympiacos Dec2004, ACmilan May2005 & WestHam May2006.
I'm not a big fan of Gerrard but I consider his performance at Anfield vs Olympiacos in the last champions league group game 2004/05 same level performance as the 2006 FAcup final and it was just as important if not more so because they also got a trophy out of it, a bigger trophy as well....and champions league qualification for the following season by winning that competition.
Yes he had Anfield crowd support vs Olympiacos but they needed 3 goals without reply (like in the final vs Milan but they only conceded 1 goal in this match as opposed to 3 vs Milan and also vs WestHam so his overall performance would've been better vs Olympiacos than the final vs Milan for sure and maybe the WestHam final although he scored 2 and set up 1 in that game... there was just as much pressure on him to score his goal vs Olympiacos as his 2nd vs WestHam they were both late in the game and the Olympiacos goal was technically better where as the WestHam goals particularly the 3-3 goal I think he even said it was more of a hit&hope from distance and he was too knackered to do anything else....his goal vs Milan the pressure was off they had nothing to lose at the time and then they got a couple more goals shortly after therefore equalising much earlier than the other games and could afford to sit back more than Olympiacos & WestHam where they were having to attack for longer).
I half wish he didn't now and again play like that though because he was just fooling the England managers. He was very often rubbish for England and not England captain material yet was allowed to be captain for way way way too long and allowed to be in the team in general for way too long.

@@RealistGunner It's all the trademark bad backpasses of his which always led to opposition goals in massive games you can't deny those continuous howlers dented his status as a player and he was bad for England also.
You can only count on 1 hand great performances from him in massive games in his career which have led to silverware but can count on the same hand those types of howlers that have lost trophies.

    • @cddb5408
      @cddb5408 3 роки тому

      @@RealistGunner Oh I just realised a mistake I made.
Gerrard was actually lucky to still be on the pitch vs Olympiacos Dec2004 he escaped what should've been a red card before they even began that comeback.
So the few big performances in his career he had has just been cut shorter.
