Whenever I need to learn something new, for the leather craft processes, I come straight to you, Sir. You have always had exactly what I needed, and a very detailed, clear-spoken, easy-to-understand block of verbal instruction, with your well-covered videos. Thank you, so much! I really appreciate you being there, and teaching us what you know! Good day, Sir!
+Jason Silver Just wanted to say that as of today and this video I am now doing the braid and love it! It looked so much harder than it really is.. Thank you for such a great video..
Thanks again for Your content. I want took a class at Tandy and asked about the Mexican round braid and he looked at me like I was crazy and told me that there is no breeds that are called Mexican. I thought it was kind of funny so I thought I'd share it gobbless have a good day
Johan, what about going around a 90 degree corner, do you use the same holes multiple times (western double loop stitch, I use the slightly enlarged corner hole with a rotary punch 'four times' making the corner round, continuous and pretty)? Then how do you end the project making it seem as to have never have started or stopped but we all know just by looking at the edge and holes closely?
Sir, I wonder if you have a tip. I have enjoyed learning this technique on flat items. I seem to have trouble on a curved gusset as the holes start not lining up going around the curve. Thank you.
One way is to make the holes just in one piece, then form the gusset and maybe use something like bull clips to hold the pieces in place and mark the second piece through the holes in the first piece.
There is no way of predicting it. It all depends on how wide the lace is, how far from the edge your holes are. The best is to do two inches of braiding on a test piece, and measure how much lace it takes to braid that two inches on your particular thickness of leather with your own lace.
For this video I cut my own lace very wide and from thick leather just so it would show very clearly on the video. I usually work with superior calf lace or kangaroo - 1/8" wide. And as thin as those laces are sold.
Johan Potgieter,Thank you. I did a Mexican braid with some 1/8" lacing that was kind of thin it made a nice tight braid, but I found it a bit difficult to work with, I did the same braid with some thicker lacing, easier to work with, but the braid didn't look as good.
The best is to do a one inch test piece on the same leather and see how much lace that takes. This is because both the type of lace and the thickness of the leather and the distance of the holes to the edge and from each other, all play a roll in how much lace will be used. I hope this helps.....
I have measured and sometimes I have extra but I never come up short. I always cut 8× length to be laced. I always snug mine pretty good but not too tightly. It always comes out nice, tight and clean.
I would take it through the hole as at minute 6:25 and then bury the tip at the back under the lace as you did with the starting tip. You can also go into that hole just with through the one layer of leather and then bury the tip between the two leathers.
@@leatherworker I say it because I saw it in a book of hilario faudone and names it as a seam of 4. I thank you anyway that it responded to my comment. greetings from Argentina
Excellent presentation - clear and easy to understand - thanks for sharing your knowledge 👍

@@leatherworker thank you sir
Thank you for the intell....I really appreciate your knowledge..
any video on how to do a braided scabbard for a folding knife? Thanks!
How far apart do you punch the holes?
Because of the wide lace I used here for the illustration, I think those hole were 1\4" apart.
How do you splice it?
How much lace does this braid require

What is the thickness of the lacing you are using? I've noticed there are different thickness in a couple of laces I have found.

How long of lace per inch of project?

Unfortunately I do not have one to end it. I will try to make one.
@@leatherworker I'll look forward to seeing it. Thank you.
Thank you for the video!
Great Vid 👍
Whag size is the lace

very good, thank you
How do you finish it?

awesome thank you for this

"Nice"
This named Punto Español.
Not Mexician.
Y quien te dijo que era mexicana???
Most leatherworkers worldwide know it by that name - it is also called a round weave.
