I was able to see Soichi Terada (Ape Escape composer) at an electronic music festival in Belfast called AVA. I didn't expect to see him there but he was playing a great set and he blew me away. Such a talented guy and he really knew how to get the crowd going in the most fun ways. He was so full of energy and made one of those paper fortune tellers and used it as a puppet and let 'it' sing into the microphone. Sounds really dramatic but it really was one of the highlights of my life so far. The sun was shining and everything was good
I remember when I was 9 or 10. Ape Escape had only just come out on the PS1 and I had it for a birthday present. I was addicted to it, and absolutely loved the music so much. I would pause the game just to listen to the music. I like to think that I liked it before it was cool.
ape escape changed my life. my grandma made a me a custom shirt like spike and let me die my hair red and spike it. like nothing comes close to that game. it made me who i am
First time listening/watching this mix, and I can already tell its iconic. Similar to those early Lo-Fi mixes with vintage anime GIFs back in like 2016. The first ones to do it, kickstarting a massive genre & subculture movement. Breakcore/90s DnB resurgence is about to blow up, and the UA-cam algorithm is really pushing it. This is the first time where I've ever seen a mix within this genre coincide with the on-screen visuals so well, creating an entire immersive experience filled with ethereal nostalgia for catering to late millennials/early gen Z. Truly a contemporary work of art that immerses the senses with a nostalgia-evoking, trance-like, visual soundsape.
@@alexm.c.312 Gen Z goes back as far as '97 so it's not out of the question, and you don't have to play a game the year it came out. I was born in 2001 and some of my fondest/earliest memories are of playing PS2 in daycare. I even have friends younger than me that had the N64 as their first console. Gatekeeping aint it chief

I grew up playing Nintendo, I remember when the PS1 and Dreamcast came out but I never had any of those systems. It blows my mind seeing how many games had DnB tracks, good ones at that
I love this genre of video, but man... these games are made to be in 4:3 aspect ratio on a CRT. Those TVs properly smoothed out the graphics (as opposed to upscaling them). That CRT screen also added a lot of texture such as scanlines which, on top of smoothing the pixels out, added depth. Ape Escape stretched to 16:9 is just wrong. Doesn't go well with the aesthetic of that era. If you wanna make that game footage look REALLY sexy, then record it using a CRT filter on RetroArch or something. Maybe add some kind of aesthetic border if you want the video to be in 16:9. Sorry if this comment came off as negative, but I just believe we haven't reached the heights of this kind of music/game fusion aesthetic yet, and I'm just trying to point it out. It all of course is subjective and down to personal opinion, so if this is the way you like it, then more power to you.
Yes I know what you mean. I actually love 16:9 and this footage was taken from emulators with wide screen patches/mods where possible 🤣 it may not be how it was done back in the day, but I personally much prefer 16:9 where possible. Thanks for the comment 🙏
Woah, the first track from Ape Escape gave me intense nostalgia. I played this when I was a kid but forgot almost everything about it, just hearing the music made a bunch of memories reappear I need to replay it now, I was so small I could barely understand what was going on
As someone who first played through it this last year, Ape Escape is AMAZING. The soundtrack is incredible but it's also just a part of what makes this game so good
I would introvertedly game for hours on these consoles when I was younger. It wasn't until I got older I really got into Jungle Drum & Bass. Now listening to this while the retro game enthusiasm still burns strong is like a blissful dream. The meeting of two focuses in my life was always there just not heard by my young sleeping mind.
This is so good for the treadmill. Absolute bangers non-stop and visuals to keep me entertained. I'm an old boy now, nearly 40, and this music and games are what I was all about. Takes me right back, thank you.
39yo now myself. Played ape escape when it was first released. Still play ps1 games, play my 90's records (among others) and drive a car that's 43 years old. Love the classics and keep them current for the most part. What a fantastic slice of nostalgia and fantastic mix here. Many thanks to the uploader
What's insane is figured out drum and bass is the music of my bones....like it understands me like I understand it....but low key I've been a gamer all my life and it's funny to go back and see moments in games where my energies were at peak because of the music either in them or you know cartoons or anime. My god all moments were either edm or drum and bass liquid or jungle. Gods socks that's a trippy mind fuck.... that being said. LONG LIVE HOSPITAL Records
I thought this was just some modern underground music producers, until I heard the Sheep Raider music. It really keeps me thinking about how modern producers take inspiration from actual real references from the past.

Oh my god, Ridge Racer 1, my first Playstation 1 game. Then I realised I sucked at simulators, but my dad enjoyed the game immensely. :D We started playing with the Demo 1 CD instead, and I think Crash Bandicoot was the first full game I played through. :)

Ape Escape soundtrack goes so hard its crazy
Yeah, that got me hooked from the very beginning of the mix. It makes for such a good opening track.
One of the only things I'd consider a masterpiece.
soichi terada is a god
what a game, what a soundtrack
Soichi Terada has a wonderful Discography outside of just Ape Escape check it out ^.^

It's a great soundtrack :)
so much nostalgia for me in ape escape
Your so right. What a game
the sequels got a bit too cartoony and bright, first game was the sweet spot hardware limitations and all
That transition into White Out is ridiculous
Something about cartoony-styled PS1 graphics... soulful
I felt like I got hit by a wave when that Ape Escape music started
