    I like how the military is actually competent here unlike in zombie movies, even though the monsters here are WAY worse than zombies

      To be fair, all these monsters only came out of a single portal which was probably quickly closed again. And at the end of the day, they are just huge animals. Bullets and fire will make quick work of them. Zombies movies like to skip the "spread" part or quickly gloss over it, and get to the part where society already collapsed. Despite the fact that the military probably would have prevented things from getting that bad to begin with.

      @@Carlit0Tit0 Yeah I think so. Coronavirus is invisible, you can't shoot it. And you can't kill people for transmitting it or not wearing masks. A zombie virus is much easier to see and control. No one has problems with shooting zombies.

    • @Leonardo-zt3kf
      @Leonardo-zt3kf 4 роки тому +21

      @Charles Lee Ray flame throwers at a range of 10-15 metres are normally at around somewhere between 900-1100°c or 1652-2012°f while 20-30 metres is about 800°c or 1472°f
      to completely vaporize a human till their bones with an open fire would take around 4-5 hours, but that to say if theres a continuous stream of it
      normally during bunker and trench raids they'd do like little one taps to conserve fuel since these things eats alot of that, the flame thrower uses about half a galon when fired for more then 1-2 seconds
      when in contact with the flames for just a few seconds the human body suffers from 3rd degree burns all around, feeling the pain for roughly 10-12 seconds until finally fainting. at this point the flames probably would have burned out, and if not treated a immediately then the person would have likely died a minute or 2 after they fainted, and yes healing and recovering from 3rd degree burns are possibly

      the difference between a religious person and irreligious person in this scenario is that an irreligious person isn't bound by that paranoid fear, so that's one less thing for them to worry about vs a religious person spreading mumbo jumbo bs to cause mass hysteria and delusions in an already dire situation...

    I believe that the Behemoth is actually used as a hive for most of the creatures seen in the film, the other creatures just use it’s body as a home for themselves, seeing that the Gray-Widowers lay eggs in living / formerly living organisms. As for the worms, they likely cling on to the ribs of the Behemoth until they are at their desired location in where prey are present.

    • @nunyabizness7453
      @nunyabizness7453 3 роки тому +12

      My theory: The Behemoth is a non-living being. It is akin to the "walkers" in Star Wars, with "people" (from the other dimension) inside. The layout of their dimension is similar to ours, so it takes them a while before they realize they aren't in Kansas anymore. I say that what they opened, was a ZOO, and, The Behemoth is The Zookeeper, complete with food and shelter for the animals.

    The Mist is such a great film! Kinda cool to that is has so many of the Walking Dead alumni in it as well....I also love that it has a realistic ending...none of the main characters are left alive, and the protagonist of the film (Thomas Jane) is left devastated and broken after what he was just forced to do....for nothing. Knowing if he had held out just a few more moments is heartbreaking.

      Ehhh, Lovecraft's monsters are meant to inspire fear by giving the reader a sense of hopelessness and a feeling that they are insignificant to the larger forces at play. These creatures are just gruesome.

    • @THX11458
      @THX11458 7 років тому +11

      It's interesting, when script writers and movie producers use Lovecraft's general ideas from his mythos they can produce amazing classic films like The Thing, Alien, and The Mist, but when someone tries to make a direct translation of a Lovecraft story it always turns out to be a dud. Off hand I can't think of any horror/sci-fi writer whos stories are so difficult to transfer onto the big screen.

      T. Gorbach yep

    • @aickavon
      @aickavon 7 років тому +3

      @T. Gorbach, the unfortunate difficulty of transferring a hopeless cause onto a screen and pure insanity is the sheer fact of trying to figure out some sort of medium that the audience can understand while not driving them insane. Since the main factor in a lot of Cthulhu mythos is the sheer insignificance of the protagonist and their plight as well as the sheer magnitude of what they'd have to accomplish, it's really hard to present an enthralling story onto the big screen.
      Where as in stories we can create the scenes and imagine the worst that is to come, in big screen there is no imagination, it's presented from the Director's Lense. And thus the Director has to have a REALLY good adaptation to manifest a compelling story that would not only entertain but translate the mythos properly.
      In the end, it IS theoritcally possible to do, or at least get close to... but at the same time the chances of something pulling a task so flawlessly and successfully are about the same as Valve making Half-life 3 and it meeting fan expectations instead of being a forever dissapointment

    I always remember the behemoth. I remember it larger than 240 ft, and it looks bigger. I imagine that, up on it's back, you'd find a whole biome, with something like trees and tons of other creatures that don't know any world other than the gently drifting back of this gargantuan monster. I love the point at which it shows up, as well. Everyone in the car can only be left with one impression: this is no longer your world.

    You know what’s really interesting about the tentacles from Planet X? The way they were animated and put into the movie. The director couldn’t get an animatronic to look as fluid as he wanted. So he got on a green sleeve and glove and did it himself! It gave it a more real look. There’s more evidence of directors or other film crew members using practical effects to give the movie a better look. Like using condoms full of blood and rupturing them above and elevator shaft to give a better look to a leg getting ripped off.

    Interesting facts - connections of SK's other books:
    1. In It: the web of It's spider form caused similar effets on humans, like seen in the Mist.
    2. In the Dark Tower series: there's a place, named Todash, where a lot of monsters lived, almost everyone of them are insect-like. Probably, with the Arrowhead Project, the miliraty managed to open a portal to the Todash, and all the creatures of "The Mist" came from there...

      I read somewhere that they were in fact todash creatures and it was a thinnie that actually opened the way for them to get into the Mist universe. But also it was a preview of what would have happened if the crimson king got full 100% control of the Dark Tower and its twinner, The Rose. 😅

      I'd say Ultraling, then again thats a late game strat. Its morely a 8pool due the slow start in the movie. as the mist is visible in start of the film but comes later.
