I do think that it is because of the electromagnetic effects of the earpiece. You can clearly see that they effect lights, therefore they must some kind of perhaps some sort of effect, or even a weakness. So i think that it is because of the implants electric effects, not the sound frequency.
I have a four year old and a 17 month old...this movie is my worst nightmare. Just out of curiosity, I told my four year old, "lets see how quiet we can be from the car to the house." We made it to the door before he just grins at me and screams for no reason. Dead.

Being as they're a plot device rather than a character, that seems appropriate. The movie's not about aliens. If you want that kind of movie, there's plenty of them. Pick any one of them as they're all pretty much identical. This movie is about fatherhood.

The movie doesn't go into detail on how they work specifically to avoid the endless nitpicking, and folks analyzing them should be mindful of that. They just work. Simple as that. The onus is on people to figure out just how, not nitpick about how they shouldn't.

Film then establishes the specific sound frequency of the cochlear implant's malfunction is the only thing that forcibly opens up the Death Angels' armour. Film then concludes by showing the flesh beneath the armour is vulnerable. No plot holes here. A sound narrative that is cohesive and shows a clear progression.
@@GunlessSnake The greatest myth in writing is the idea of the omnipotent narrator. Just because the story says so doesn't MAKE it so. Buzz phrases like world building and internal consistency are in more plan terms the story pleading it's case to convince the audience to suspend their disbelief. Just telling the audience these things destroyed the world then showing them defeated with high pitched sound and a shotgun loaded with buck shot, a weapon that might not stop a grizzly before it kills you, is not internally consistent. It does not stand up to scrutiny which is the whole point of this video. A story can still be enjoyable with plot holes but telling people there are no plot holes in something because you enjoy it is _sooooo_ disingenuous.
Yea. But AQP writer just wrote what he wanted on screen without any concern if it made sense. The AQP creatures survived a billion year trip at near absolute zero and then survived an atmospheric entry and impact with forces that can instantly squeeze carbon into diamonds and temperatures that can vaporize iron. Or maybe the writer of Predator had at least a third grade science education and the writer of A Quite Place didn't.

Not even Tardigrades can survive infinite amounts of time at near absolute zero and then survive an entry reaching temperatures that can vaporize iron and an impact that can instantly turn carbon into diamonds. Also the Tardigrade is a VERY simple organism that doesn't even have a respiratory or circulatory system. So even if they were as tough as some people think they are, you couldn't draw any parallels to something as obviously complex as the "Angels of Death." In reality Tardigrades will die in about 10 years without food and most die in boiling water. They can't survive even a tiny fraction of any of the extremes the AoD were shown to.

Hard to predict what happens in a universe with no rules that you're not supposed to think about. The writer director apparently thought of nothing beyond what is on screen at the moment.
It didn't die from the sound of it. It died because the girl put her hearing aids up to a mic and the feedback from that opened it's armour and caused it much pain before being put out of it's misery with a shotgun.

When I watched the movie, I honestly thought that they were a bio weapon being used to probe or weaken humanity for a larger invasion force. That's really the only way they could be as strong as they are. Nothing would ever naturally evolve to be able to sustain itself on nothing while also being an apex predator in any environment. I really enjoy the concept of the movie but the truth is that it's impossible to draw up a species capable of defeating modern Earth without any form of technology.
MajorArtillery they're like miniature Doomsdays. Something such as Doomsday could never be born naturally in the universe. It has to be created. These things in A Quiet Place are just shocktroopers/berserkers for a technologically advanced race of aliens that don't feel the time or effort necessary to invade a planet with their own kind...
That, or they could also be some failed experimental bioweapon (too uncontrolable or some unforseen weakness) that some aliens just shot into space to be someone else's problem and it was just dumb luck that they landed on earth.

What if they evolved on asteroids and their species travels by asteroid and invasively takes over species? Them having to reach earth through falling and crashing through the atmosphere could evolutionarily explain their armor

Everybody in the movie is already dead, and the monsters are Angels of Death harvesting them for the Afterlife. The birth of the kid at the end signifies a new beginning that defies the law of God and therefore all the Angels rush to quench its' life.
"Why didn't they just make this creature a god?" Because they took the DC universe theme to writing. Make the thing super powerful, withstanding ANYTHING, but one thing makes it weak to everything.
It's just that the lowest tier people in D.C. could obliterate all of them with no effort since most of them are City to Planet to Star to Solar System level.
Stories are less interesting with bull crazy powerful cast members. Any plot excuse for weakness adds hope to pay off the built up tension, or the reverse. Granted, if you're willing to host philosophical discussions between two virtual deities then they won't need a weakness for your story.
I think the crutch of the creatures is how much is revealed about them, keeping it mysterious would’ve given more lenience to the species’ biology. Having them be inter-dimensional or even something devine would’ve been awesome

You guys in the replies section know that the monster didn’t swim in the basement right? Also it would make sense that they couldn’t swim since they wear like super heavy impenetrable armor, plus that their body represents nothing that could guarantee them to swim.

So they didn't learn because they weren't closely enough connected to know what happened. They just knew something happened to them.

Well if it's killing everything that makes a sound, and moves as fast as it does. It's gonna take a while for there to be enough survivors to pass on the message. People scream and run when frightened. A group of these is going to tear through a crowd like tissue paper. That, and in real life when under pressure, you don't think so clearly. You'd be terrified and focused on not dieing. It'd take a little while for people to start thinking about counter attacks.

First off, gunshots are insanely loud. You mean to tell me something with that sensitive hearing can deal with gunshots all day long? How about the pressure wave from an explosion? Even from far away, they can be strong enough to rupture eardrums and perforate intestines. Second, the military already has sonic weapons that operate in the frequency that those stupid things don't like. Third, IDGAF what your armor is made of, we have a weapon that can penetrate it. We make weapons that can punch through 14 inches of hardened steel. How about a few 30mm AP rounds from an Apache or an A10? How about the CBU-105 sensor fuzed weapon? There is literally no possible way that thing could survive being inside the sensor fuzed weapon's field of fire.

At the very least, Xenomorphs are biologically driven to reproduce, these guys look like they've evolved just to chill on the planet, what happens when there is nothing left to hunt, do they attack each other? Even if they are suited to be flexible in many environments, I am sure there is some form of radiation or bacteria they could be affected by?
Creature: "I have armor that is literally indestructible." Condensed matter physics: "Am I a joke to you?" Let's be honest, if this was real then those creatures would be humanity's bitch within the week and people would be growing that artificial "armor" to make stuff out of.

For some reason when I watched this I never realized it was the whole planet. I thought that it was just in that small town. It also explains why I found it strange that these creatures where able to take over the town yet not be eradicated or attacked by the rest government. How a simple detail can make it break ones understanding of the plot
Honestly, I was only interested in "A Quiet Place" because I was intrigued by the concept of living silently. I wanted to see how the family was able to quiet every part of our noisy lives. The creature was their motivation to stay quiet but actually got in the way of the movie. I tuned out about 2/3s the way through the movie because of the creature. I don't know of a movie that attempted to create such a silent environment on earth and it would be fascinating to see a culture that was based on silence. You are right every part of the creative either screams bioweapon or unnatural.
Yeah I remember seeing this movie and being like "have these people heard of the A-10 Warthog close air support jet?" Pair a few of those with a squadron of Abrams tanks and you could kill a city full of these.

Maddox Orsack and that’s modern armour. The old battle ships had armour so strong that if a kamikaze plane went for the thick steel sides it wouldn’t penetrate and would instead just blow up on contact.
But a big thing people forget is that they landed on a meteor, which would fuck up a huge area of the planet, we'd be dealing with that for a long time before realizing these things are even out there, all the while they'd be breeding. There is no realistic way we could take them out, we would have to know exactly where they are to shoot at them and they're damn fast, not to mention relentless. It's easy to shoot at vehicles and slow moving units of soldiers, incredibly fast living tanks? Not so much.
Remember kids, if your gun doesn't kill it, then you need a bigger gun. There are very few things in the universe that can't be killed with a big enough shell.
That saying is dumb,here's a better and more realistic one: Remember kids the universe is a big place,a creature which has bullet proof amour could very well exist.
Roanoke I'm surprised you didn't look into why hearing aids and amplifiers specifically would bother these creatures, never fear audio engineer here. Most audio input devices (hearing aids in this case) turn acoustic signals into electrical ones, and unfortunately this means that external magnetic waves can get caught up in the signal too while on its way to the amplifier. For audio output devices, speakers are made up of drivers which are basically giant magnets that make the cone vibrate to produce noise. Then of course the amplifier itself is using electromagnets to beef up the signal. Basically the point is, if these creatures are sending out EM waves to help them hear, and hearing their own EM waves coming out of hearing aids and radio amplifiers then that's going to cause feedback and would probably be agonising considering their EM waves are strong enough to affect nearby lights.
That makes the military issue even sillier, though, as every plane and ship borne radar in theater is going to be making their heads do the chunky monkey.
Here's something that I'm not seeing anybody talking about. Yes they might have the strongest armor in the known universe, but nobody's discussing how the connective tissues obviously aren't that strong if a shotgun round can destroy their inner workings. This would mean that even if an impact of a rifle of the 50 cal or an armor piercing round or a tank or whatever hits them it would still rip those things off of them like shingles off a roof basically with the impact.
Based on their capabilities alone, it could be argued that they are bioengineered weapons. Even the destruction of their homeworld could have been the result of the terminal escalation of a war in which these weapons were created.
Even if they were engineered it would still leave a lot of unanswered questions in the creatures abilities that go against physics and genetics. For example, if the armor were strong enough to let you survive the atmospheric shockwave, heat and other effects that would be happening in such an event, it would have to be made from a material that does not exist in the physical universe and if it did it would have such a short half life that it would cease to exist very quickly unless you put lots and lots of energy into it. Which would then lead to the energy consumption of such a creature, for if it could maintain that amount of protection, it would need ludicrous amounts of energy, akin to having a full star powering each and everyone of those creatures. There is also the problem that a shotgun shell, once their armor is open, can kill them and that they bleed. This means that they have liquids in their bodies, meaning water, meaning it would be subject to all the benefits and problems that come along with it. For example, lower boiling point in vacuum, which would have cooked them once they were blown out into the void. Barring that, they would have been frozen, with the ice crystal damaging the cells in the squishy parts of their bodies beyond repair. Even if both things didn't happen, they again would need energy to keep their body at a temperature and internal pressure to not have the liquid boil or freeze. Which means, we would again run into the energy problem. In a lot of things it actually does come down to energy. You want to go bigger? you need more energy. You want to go faster? You need more energy. Using that energy comes with another problem, additional heat. The bigger you are and the faster you move, the more heat your body produces, which has to be dissipated unless you want to cause a disruption of bodily functions. With armor around your body, heat can't be dissipated, which would cause problems, forcing the creatures to slow down or the writer to, again, explain it away with some magical, physically impossible handwave. Which brings us to the armor. Each creature with armor and joints will have weakpoints at those joints. If it doesn't or has only very little ones, it will not move very fast, because the armor plates would hit each other and therefore restrict movement. This would reduce agility and speed greatly. So, yeah, even if you go with the explanation of a bioengineered weapon, these creatures are still beyond physics in the real world.

@@mitchwilliamson5552 Not how I meant it but I can see why you took it that way. My point is they screwed up and made it a magical super beast instead of something grounded in reality. It's strengths and weaknesses are so out of proportion that it isn't possible to believe this thing could be real.
Maybe the Aliens can enter a state of natural suspended animation, or are able to essentially mummify themselves temporarily similar to Tardigrades, which allowed them to survive the extended travel on an Asteroid. It's not that they don't need to eat, they just can go for long periods of time without it. Then they landed on Earth and used their senses to hunt for food, only to figure out that they can't eat their kills (Maybe because they can't digest Humans, or something along those lines). Problem is, they were still hungry, and eventually, running on survival instincts alone, they attacked anything that made a sound, just as they presumably did on their homeworld, whether they could eat it or not, because they are just insane from starvation. Unfortunately, it takes them a long time to keel over from that, which makes just waiting them out impractical. Assuming that's the case, it's quite a miracle that they aren't cannibalizing eachother. Now that I entertain that thought, a perfectly healthy Alien, able to strategize and coordinate, similar to most pack hunters on Earth, and not in a hunger-driven frenzy, would be DAMN terrifying, because, well, compare a pack of rabid, starving Dogs with a pack of Wolves. The rabid Dogs mostly just charge you and bite wherever they can sink their teeth into, while Wolves surround you, and attack you from multiple angles, as well as observing and choosing the most advantageous position to attack. But that is all just conjecture.
@@moriskurth628 You're all thinking way too much, they must be artificially molded by another species that needed powerful war machines, when a hunter dies and his hunting dogs are released accidentally into the wild, the dogs will kill for sport instead of food because that's what they were taught to do and is all they know; that and the creature is way too perfect.
i was watching a UA-cam video of a guy hunting deer with a fifty caliber rifle. he missed but missed its head by and inch or 2. the bullet sucked out its eye and started sucking out its brain, killing it instantly... its really a nasty round

@@slow_rednline4874 That's true and for the most part I was thinking if you're firing 20 or 30 at aliens you're probably on a mounted gun at a military installation or military vehicle (or aircraft). There are some 20mm firing rifles out there, but you would be correct if you're saying you're better off with a 40mm grenade launcher or Barrett XM500.

"Why do they have teeth?" Perhaps they haven't yet gotten to a point where it's vestigial. They still have a mouth, but as you've stated, they don't really need it to eat and since they don't breathe, that further pushes the idea of "why mouth?" If these things DID evolve on another planet, maybe their ancestors used to have them and just haven't been phased out yet. I dunno. I DO know that out of universe, it's because the alien's creators thought it looked scarier with one.
How could have they evolved to not need to eat if they needed to prior? That seems like something that would take a really long time or just something that a species would not be able to evolve into because the time it'd take would be too long for them to survive.
I think it's funny how nobody is taking into account that these creatures seem to keep their distance from each other most of the time. Not out of malice, but most likely to not interfere with each other's hearing. An easy explanation for the teeth is that they use them to communicate with the different clicking noises they use. Obviously the writers put them there to be scary, but hey. It's fun to see what story the creatures tell just by watching them.
@@muntu1221 They could have a larval form that eats enough to sustain its adult form, and the teeth could just be a leftover from its larval state. I know they say that the creatures don't have to eat, but I don't think that rules out it having a larval form that eats.
Another, and probably the largest issue with these creatures is that they are totally reliant on sound, and have ears that are so finely tuned that they can hear prey from miles away. The sound alone of a high-caliber gun, which can deafen a human easily even with limited fire, should easily take these things down. Crack theory: the creatures are fine tuned biological robots created by extraterrestrials and launched at our planet (and possibly others) intentionally. The paradoxical narrative durability of the creature, e.g. surviving an asteroid impact, could be explained by the impactor being specially equipped to protect the creatures during insertion. Being in some kind of cryogenic stasis, power-down mode and or some kind of armored pod would explain their survival during the long trip to earth. As engineered creatures, it's possible their external armor is not actually chitinous, but a suspension of carbon nano-tubes or other ridiculous substance, and that they have some internal power source like a biological nuclear reactor or even something more exotic. Their vulnerability could be a feature rather than a bug: aural input encoding for maintenance or software update. The literal autistic shrieking sounded enough like the "open all panels for maintenance access" to trip the hardwired reaction. However, the level of trouble the creators would have gone to suggests their goal is not humanities extinction, as simpler means are available for depopulating a planet. Maybe the creatures were introduced as a behavioral modifier. Consider dark forest theory, a solution to the drake equation which posits that we have not heard any extraterrestrial signals because all the intelligent civilizations are being quiet intentionally, because they're frightened about what might hear them. The way these creatures operate is reminiscent of dark forest theory: every time someone makes noise they are swiftly and brutally removed from the gene pool. The end result is not the extinction of humanity, but a species which is now much more careful about shouting into the dark. Which leads to a horrific realization that somewhere out there is a tremendously advanced alien species which thinks in terms of millennia that is apparently terrified about what our reckless noise-making might attract to the neighborhood.
Part 2 shows they can't actually swim and presumably drown if under water too long. Also the inner ear would probably be too fragile to start under water in those extreme depths.

I've heard people defending these creatures, saying: "But they have armor..." and whatnot. I highly doubt the armor can protect their inner, far softer flesh from the kinetic energy caused by a planet exploding in their faces, even if their (less than 3 inches thick) armor is reactive.(reminder that their inner flesh was easily blown to pieces by a single shotgun round). So no, these creatures only look cool on a superficial level, because when you actually factor in their "lore" it becomes clear that they only survived planetary destruction through plot armor.

The Armor is the smallest factor on them tbh. It's how spread out they are. Armor only makes what you need to kill them that much greater. ttk is bigger and with how spread out the creatures are it would take even longer to kill them. It also takes time to figure things out, especially when it's a crazy alien monster you've never seen before. Reliable information is not usually gained from scared survivors. by the time they figure out the effective means to fight the creatures there would already be quite wide spread panic. considering the attraction to sound it's likely that any groups fighting the creatures would be swarmed by them early on. we dont really see much of the military afaik in a quiet place. Maybe there was a mention or something, but I dont remember.

One thing about explosions is most of the damage comes from the shockwave. I can understand if these monsters multiple like crazy(movie didn’t show that) but a big enough blast even with their armor would make their insides into mush.

Survived an asteroid impact, taken out by a shotgun blast to the face. There is so many problems with these critters. There are creatures that can go into suspended animation until the right conditions wake them up... But this asteroid was traveling for potentially millions of years and then it happens to crash on a planet that with just the right conditions for them to survive? That strains credulity. Space is super empty. You could send a million such asteroids out and they could all float around for eternity.

This is a brilliant analysis. Just watched Part II disappointed that there wasn’t a feasible explanation as to where they come from and also that they’re actually unable to swim. Lots of plot holes, but still enjoyable for what it is.

Sand is a pretty common building material. There is a place 10 mins walk from where I live that has giant piles of the stuff. "Does no one ever cough/fart/sneeze" All of these can be made silent or close enough. If your literal life was on the line you would learn to hold that shit in real quick. "Why don't they live near the waterfall" This is probably the dumbest one. You can't build right next to the waterfall for reasons I will assume are obvious. Building a house, even only using hand tools, is loud af. All it takes is for one of those things to be walking past while you're hammering a peg into place and you're done. It would also take an extraordinary amount of time, time that you couldn't spend doing all the other work that needs to be done. Some people must think they could just live in a hole in the ground, return to monke type shit. There are days or even weeks of travel time through very cold vacuum of space so any heat wouldn't last for long. We will be unable to stop until we actually start all the nature self feeding loopes towards hot house Earth and by then only geo engineering might save us, yet who knows how that goes.
It could be that their armour is composed of a material that completely compresses all shockwaves, dampening them to the point that even PLANETARY EXPLOSIONS don't distribute the force. So think Marvel comics-style Vibranium or Adamantium. You don't go through their armour, you go around it.
Movie knowledge? This movie isn't about aliens, son. The aliens are a plot device. You could replace them with any other apocalyptic scenario. They're just there so the power of John Krazinski's dad love can save his family from something after he sacrifices himself. It's a dad movie, not an alien movie. How is everyone this caught up on arguably one of the least indispensable plot points in this movie?

Being as they're a plot device rather than a character, that seems appropriate. The movie's not about aliens. If you want that kind of movie, there's plenty of them. Pick any one of them as they're all pretty much identical. This movie is about fatherhood.

Film then concludes by showing the flesh beneath the armour is vulnerable.
No plot holes here. A sound narrative that is cohesive and shows a clear progression.

Just telling the audience these things destroyed the world then showing them defeated with high pitched sound and a shotgun loaded with buck shot, a weapon that might not stop a grizzly before it kills you, is not internally consistent. It does not stand up to scrutiny which is the whole point of this video.
A story can still be enjoyable with plot holes but telling people there are no plot holes in something because you enjoy it is _sooooo_ disingenuous.

Also the Tardigrade is a VERY simple organism that doesn't even have a respiratory or circulatory system. So even if they were as tough as some people think they are, you couldn't draw any parallels to something as obviously complex as the "Angels of Death."
In reality Tardigrades will die in about 10 years without food and most die in boiling water. They can't survive even a tiny fraction of any of the extremes the AoD were shown to.

When I watched the movie, I honestly thought that they were a bio weapon being used to probe or weaken humanity for a larger invasion force. That's really the only way they could be as strong as they are. Nothing would ever naturally evolve to be able to sustain itself on nothing while also being an apex predator in any environment. I really enjoy the concept of the movie but the truth is that it's impossible to draw up a species capable of defeating modern Earth without any form of technology.
MajorArtillery they're like miniature Doomsdays. Something such as Doomsday could never be born naturally in the universe. It has to be created. These things in A Quiet Place are just shocktroopers/berserkers for a technologically advanced race of aliens that don't feel the time or effort necessary to invade a planet with their own kind...
That, or they could also be some failed experimental bioweapon (too uncontrolable or some unforseen weakness) that some aliens just shot into space to be someone else's problem and it was just dumb luck that they landed on earth.

Everybody in the movie is already dead, and the monsters are Angels of Death harvesting them for the Afterlife. The birth of the kid at the end signifies a new beginning that defies the law of God and therefore all the Angels rush to quench its' life.

Stories are less interesting with bull crazy powerful cast members. Any plot excuse for weakness adds hope to pay off the built up tension, or the reverse.

I think the crutch of the creatures is how much is revealed about them, keeping it mysterious would’ve given more lenience to the species’ biology. Having them be inter-dimensional or even something devine would’ve been awesome

First off, gunshots are insanely loud. You mean to tell me something with that sensitive hearing can deal with gunshots all day long? How about the pressure wave from an explosion? Even from far away, they can be strong enough to rupture eardrums and perforate intestines.
Second, the military already has sonic weapons that operate in the frequency that those stupid things don't like.
Third, IDGAF what your armor is made of, we have a weapon that can penetrate it. We make weapons that can punch through 14 inches of hardened steel. How about a few 30mm AP rounds from an Apache or an A10? How about the CBU-105 sensor fuzed weapon? There is literally no possible way that thing could survive being inside the sensor fuzed weapon's field of fire.

OUR intellect is VERY frightening.
For some reason when I watched this I never realized it was the whole planet. I thought that it was just in that small town. It also explains why I found it strange that these creatures where able to take over the town yet not be eradicated or attacked by the rest government. How a simple detail can make it break ones understanding of the plot
Honestly, I was only interested in "A Quiet Place" because I was intrigued by the concept of living silently. I wanted to see how the family was able to quiet every part of our noisy lives. The creature was their motivation to stay quiet but actually got in the way of the movie. I tuned out about 2/3s the way through the movie because of the creature. I don't know of a movie that attempted to create such a silent environment on earth and it would be fascinating to see a culture that was based on silence. You are right every part of the creative either screams bioweapon or unnatural.
Yeah I remember seeing this movie and being like "have these people heard of the A-10 Warthog close air support jet?" Pair a few of those with a squadron of Abrams tanks and you could kill a city full of these.

Maddox Orsack and that’s modern armour. The old battle ships had armour so strong that if a kamikaze plane went for the thick steel sides it wouldn’t penetrate and would instead just blow up on contact.
But a big thing people forget is that they landed on a meteor, which would fuck up a huge area of the planet, we'd be dealing with that for a long time before realizing these things are even out there, all the while they'd be breeding.
There is no realistic way we could take them out, we would have to know exactly where they are to shoot at them and they're damn fast, not to mention relentless. It's easy to shoot at vehicles and slow moving units of soldiers, incredibly fast living tanks? Not so much.
Remember kids, if your gun doesn't kill it, then you need a bigger gun. There are very few things in the universe that can't be killed with a big enough shell.

Roanoke I'm surprised you didn't look into why hearing aids and amplifiers specifically would bother these creatures, never fear audio engineer here.
Most audio input devices (hearing aids in this case) turn acoustic signals into electrical ones, and unfortunately this means that external magnetic waves can get caught up in the signal too while on its way to the amplifier. For audio output devices, speakers are made up of drivers which are basically giant magnets that make the cone vibrate to produce noise. Then of course the amplifier itself is using electromagnets to beef up the signal.
Basically the point is, if these creatures are sending out EM waves to help them hear, and hearing their own EM waves coming out of hearing aids and radio amplifiers then that's going to cause feedback and would probably be agonising considering their EM waves are strong enough to affect nearby lights.
Yeah It's Big Brain Time. Let's see people dismiss this.

That makes the military issue even sillier, though, as every plane and ship borne radar in theater is going to be making their heads do the chunky monkey.
Here's something that I'm not seeing anybody talking about. Yes they might have the strongest armor in the known universe, but nobody's discussing how the connective tissues obviously aren't that strong if a shotgun round can destroy their inner workings. This would mean that even if an impact of a rifle of the 50 cal or an armor piercing round or a tank or whatever hits them it would still rip those things off of them like shingles off a roof basically with the impact.
Based on their capabilities alone, it could be argued that they are bioengineered weapons. Even the destruction of their homeworld could have been the result of the terminal escalation of a war in which these weapons were created.

Even if they were engineered it would still leave a lot of unanswered questions in the creatures abilities that go against physics and genetics.
For example, if the armor were strong enough to let you survive the atmospheric shockwave, heat and other effects that would be happening in such an event, it would have to be made from a material that does not exist in the physical universe and if it did it would have such a short half life that it would cease to exist very quickly unless you put lots and lots of energy into it. Which would then lead to the energy consumption of such a creature, for if it could maintain that amount of protection, it would need ludicrous amounts of energy, akin to having a full star powering each and everyone of those creatures.
There is also the problem that a shotgun shell, once their armor is open, can kill them and that they bleed. This means that they have liquids in their bodies, meaning water, meaning it would be subject to all the benefits and problems that come along with it. For example, lower boiling point in vacuum, which would have cooked them once they were blown out into the void. Barring that, they would have been frozen, with the ice crystal damaging the cells in the squishy parts of their bodies beyond repair. Even if both things didn't happen, they again would need energy to keep their body at a temperature and internal pressure to not have the liquid boil or freeze. Which means, we would again run into the energy problem.
In a lot of things it actually does come down to energy. You want to go bigger? you need more energy. You want to go faster? You need more energy. Using that energy comes with another problem, additional heat. The bigger you are and the faster you move, the more heat your body produces, which has to be dissipated unless you want to cause a disruption of bodily functions. With armor around your body, heat can't be dissipated, which would cause problems, forcing the creatures to slow down or the writer to, again, explain it away with some magical, physically impossible handwave.
Which brings us to the armor. Each creature with armor and joints will have weakpoints at those joints. If it doesn't or has only very little ones, it will not move very fast, because the armor plates would hit each other and therefore restrict movement. This would reduce agility and speed greatly.
So, yeah, even if you go with the explanation of a bioengineered weapon, these creatures are still beyond physics in the real world.

Maybe the Aliens can enter a state of natural suspended animation, or are able to essentially mummify themselves temporarily similar to Tardigrades, which allowed them to survive the extended travel on an Asteroid. It's not that they don't need to eat, they just can go for long periods of time without it. Then they landed on Earth and used their senses to hunt for food, only to figure out that they can't eat their kills (Maybe because they can't digest Humans, or something along those lines). Problem is, they were still hungry, and eventually, running on survival instincts alone, they attacked anything that made a sound, just as they presumably did on their homeworld, whether they could eat it or not, because they are just insane from starvation. Unfortunately, it takes them a long time to keel over from that, which makes just waiting them out impractical. Assuming that's the case, it's quite a miracle that they aren't cannibalizing eachother.
Now that I entertain that thought, a perfectly healthy Alien, able to strategize and coordinate, similar to most pack hunters on Earth, and not in a hunger-driven frenzy, would be DAMN terrifying, because, well, compare a pack of rabid, starving Dogs with a pack of Wolves. The rabid Dogs mostly just charge you and bite wherever they can sink their teeth into, while Wolves surround you, and attack you from multiple angles, as well as observing and choosing the most advantageous position to attack.
But that is all just conjecture.

They still have a mouth, but as you've stated, they don't really need it to eat and since they don't breathe, that further pushes the idea of "why mouth?" If these things DID evolve on another planet, maybe their ancestors used to have them and just haven't been phased out yet. I dunno. I DO know that out of universe, it's because the alien's creators thought it looked scarier with one.

I think it's funny how nobody is taking into account that these creatures seem to keep their distance from each other most of the time. Not out of malice, but most likely to not interfere with each other's hearing.
An easy explanation for the teeth is that they use them to communicate with the different clicking noises they use. Obviously the writers put them there to be scary, but hey. It's fun to see what story the creatures tell just by watching them.
@@muntu1221 They could have a larval form that eats enough to sustain its adult form, and the teeth could just be a leftover from its larval state. I know they say that the creatures don't have to eat, but I don't think that rules out it having a larval form that eats.
Another, and probably the largest issue with these creatures is that they are totally reliant on sound, and have ears that are so finely tuned that they can hear prey from miles away.
The sound alone of a high-caliber gun, which can deafen a human easily even with limited fire, should easily take these things down.
A gun being fired at close proximity, even if it doesn't hit should completely disable the creature.
I think these creatures are more like bioweapons or perfectly bred to be weapons

Crack theory: the creatures are fine tuned biological robots created by extraterrestrials and launched at our planet (and possibly others) intentionally. The paradoxical narrative durability of the creature, e.g. surviving an asteroid impact, could be explained by the impactor being specially equipped to protect the creatures during insertion. Being in some kind of cryogenic stasis, power-down mode and or some kind of armored pod would explain their survival during the long trip to earth. As engineered creatures, it's possible their external armor is not actually chitinous, but a suspension of carbon nano-tubes or other ridiculous substance, and that they have some internal power source like a biological nuclear reactor or even something more exotic. Their vulnerability could be a feature rather than a bug: aural input encoding for maintenance or software update. The literal autistic shrieking sounded enough like the "open all panels for maintenance access" to trip the hardwired reaction. However, the level of trouble the creators would have gone to suggests their goal is not humanities extinction, as simpler means are available for depopulating a planet. Maybe the creatures were introduced as a behavioral modifier.
Consider dark forest theory, a solution to the drake equation which posits that we have not heard any extraterrestrial signals because all the intelligent civilizations are being quiet intentionally, because they're frightened about what might hear them. The way these creatures operate is reminiscent of dark forest theory: every time someone makes noise they are swiftly and brutally removed from the gene pool. The end result is not the extinction of humanity, but a species which is now much more careful about shouting into the dark.
Which leads to a horrific realization that somewhere out there is a tremendously advanced alien species which thinks in terms of millennia that is apparently terrified about what our reckless noise-making might attract to the neighborhood.

Part 2 shows they can't actually swim and presumably drown if under water too long. Also the inner ear would probably be too fragile to start under water in those extreme depths.
I think it depends on the depth of the water. The water in the basement wasn't deep enough. I think it supported itself by touching the ground.

I've heard people defending these creatures, saying: "But they have armor..." and whatnot.
I highly doubt the armor can protect their inner, far softer flesh from the kinetic energy caused by a planet exploding in their faces, even if their (less than 3 inches thick) armor is reactive.(reminder that their inner flesh was easily blown to pieces by a single shotgun round). So no, these creatures only look cool on a superficial level, because when you actually factor in their "lore" it becomes clear that they only survived planetary destruction through plot armor.
Bro it's a Sci-fi Movie Laws of Physics are not the same as the real world. The Asteroid Chunk survived and we know (from the film) that their armor is much stronger than dirt So them surviving the explosion is a Piece of Cake
The Armor is the smallest factor on them tbh. It's how spread out they are. Armor only makes what you need to kill them that much greater. ttk is bigger and with how spread out the creatures are it would take even longer to kill them.
It also takes time to figure things out, especially when it's a crazy alien monster you've never seen before. Reliable information is not usually gained from scared survivors.
by the time they figure out the effective means to fight the creatures there would already be quite wide spread panic.
considering the attraction to sound it's likely that any groups fighting the creatures would be swarmed by them early on.

One thing about explosions is most of the damage comes from the shockwave. I can understand if these monsters multiple like crazy(movie didn’t show that) but a big enough blast even with their armor would make their insides into mush.

From personal tests I've found that if you focus on that sound you can play around with its volume, as well as making it feel borderline painful.

There is so many problems with these critters. There are creatures that can go into suspended animation until the right conditions wake them up... But this asteroid was traveling for potentially millions of years and then it happens to crash on a planet that with just the right conditions for them to survive?
That strains credulity. Space is super empty. You could send a million such asteroids out and they could all float around for eternity.

This is a brilliant analysis. Just watched Part II disappointed that there wasn’t a feasible explanation as to where they come from and also that they’re actually unable to swim.
Lots of plot holes, but still enjoyable for what it is.

For real though, an implausible premise isn't a plot hole. A plot hole is simply a contradiction within the story, of which there were none in the movie. Plenty of unanswered questions, but those aren't plot holes either. Sometimes it feels like people wan't the movie to literally spoon feed them every tiny detail about the world the characters inhabit.
"Where do they get all the sand?" Sand is a pretty common building material. There is a place 10 mins walk from where I live that has giant piles of the stuff.
"Does no one ever cough/fart/sneeze" All of these can be made silent or close enough. If your literal life was on the line you would learn to hold that shit in real quick.
"Why don't they live near the waterfall" This is probably the dumbest one. You can't build right next to the waterfall for reasons I will assume are obvious. Building a house, even only using hand tools, is loud af. All it takes is for one of those things to be walking past while you're hammering a peg into place and you're done. It would also take an extraordinary amount of time, time that you couldn't spend doing all the other work that needs to be done.
Some people must think they could just live in a hole in the ground, return to monke type shit. I guarantee that anyone who tried that would be killed within a week.

A Giant Solar Flare discharges from the sun carries not only EM waves but strong heat than hit earth knocking out all unshielded Electrical equipment. The heat from the flare gets absorbed by the earth and this causes a pressure balance and Huge storm forms which causes Winds over 200KM/H and Rain which causes floods. In the Mean time Huge earthquake forms and Volcanos around the world erupt. Let's see technology bit that. Maybe in future it might but as of Now hell naw. So a Creature from another world with Invincible skin can easily destroy the Military especially since the Military would be making alot of noise for it.
@@asandax6 I never heard of solar flare being able to carry heat.. There are 8 minutes of travel time when doing speed of light from the Sun to Earth. There are days or even weeks of travel time through very cold vacuum of space so any heat wouldn't last for long.
I am thinking about it aloud, because it just doesn't sound possible.The movie "Knowing" was cool and all that, but it would be cooler, if it ended with just regular massive solar flare hitting us. I doubt that globally, when it comes to whole 8 billion people we have more then couple weeks of food. Yet EMP could destroy most of all electrical devices on the side of the planet if faces. It would literally takes months to fix most critical spots. Even if you would take a lucky guess and think of developed countries as having one replacement of every important transformer, generator.. stored somewhere safely, I would bet that huge majority of countries don't have them. That means that in a week, you are already having millions to billions of hungry people and 10s of failed states. You don't have air travel anymore and only way to send aid is with shipps, which can take weeks.
Honestly I sometimes think one bad enough solar flair would right now do us good. Millions or possibly billions will die, however we might finally stop and rethink ideas of economy as always needing to grow and just how unsustainable world we have built for ourself.
One giant solar flair now is almost the only thing that would shaken us enough to stop, rethink and reinvent our civilization and start making steps towards off Earth bases for start. But we won't be that lucky. We will be unable to stop until we actually start all the nature self feeding loopes towards hot house Earth and by then only geo engineering might save us, yet who knows how that goes.

It could be that their armour is composed of a material that completely compresses all shockwaves, dampening them to the point that even PLANETARY EXPLOSIONS don't distribute the force. So think Marvel comics-style Vibranium or Adamantium. You don't go through their armour, you go around it.
