MARIO PACIOLLA was a United Nations observer of peace talks between the Republic of Colombia and ex-FARC guerrillas when his body was discovered hanged and with multiple knife wounds at his home in San Vicente de Caguan on July 15, 2020. Colombian authorities ruled Mario's death a suicide - a ruling Anna and Pino vehemently reject. On June 14, the Rome Prosecutor's Office requested for a second time that Mario's death be ruled a suicide.
July 15, 2024, marked the fourth anniversary of Mario's death under suspicious circumstances. The Colombian and Italian authorities have closed their respective investigations into Mario's death. His parents - along with supporters including the Italian journalist and writer Roberto Saviano and MP Roberto Fico of the Italian Parliament's Five Star Movement - continue their fight for justice.
