How much sand is in my canister filter?

- I decided to clean out the cascade canister filter thats been running on the 55 gallon rainbow fish tank. Why does this matter? The tank has the "fine black diamond blasting sand" in it as the substrate and I have regretted using it since day one!

I used tan pool filter sand, looks great.

yes, my buddy uses the medium size without issue
My 29 is like that always stuff floating thru the water, my pleco's had babies, I have black eco complete in there they always move it around

just dont use the "fine" size, I heard the medium size works ok
So that’s all fine and good, but I have a cascade as well, similar but not that exact model. Anyway, my dumbass was too excited to put sand in my turtles aquarium, and I knew I should have put a sponge filter over the intake, but I couldn’t find any stores around me that had it and didn’t feel like waiting so I kinda just let it be. The filter was working fine for about a month until recently I noticed it was a lot louder than it normally was, AND there wasn’t any water coming out of the outlet hose. Thankfully there were no external leaks but as I was cleaning it out, replacing the filters, cleaning the impeller, etc, I noticed that when I moved the motor housing around, it sounded like it was absolutely packed with sand... 😅 is there any chance I didn’t completely 🤬 myself? Another thing I should mention is that as I was spraying water thru the in and out of the motor housing, water and sand would come out the proper side, however I also noticed that water was coming out of the seams, and part of the plastic housing isn’t quite flush as I can only assume it should be. I haven’t found any information at all regarding my problem. Maybe because I’m the only one dumb enough to screw that up. Sorry for the lengthy comment.

well, i should say it was given to me free. but it works fine. I don't have any complaints other than once in a while it sucks air somewhere but may be from previous owner not sealing the hoses up correctly somewhere. I haven't really messed with trying to find out where its getting air from. I would recommend it though.
