I watched a few other videos, but don't recall that this mechanism was specifically inspired by any one maker. I just kind of figured it out as I went along.
A beautiful latch, for sure. Lot's of effort, but a novice like me can still get a good idea of how to do something similar, with less machinery. Question: why did you include a lever? Why not just a knob attached to the dowel? Does it give extra clearance? Leverage? Anyhoo, I'm watching a lot of your videos these days as I'm just starting my own timber frame structure here in Japan. Looking to learn! Cheers.
Honestly, the lever was just a novelty. It was inspired by interior knobs that use a lever. A simple knob would work fine. Really like that you're following from Japan. Next year I hope to add an Ofuro style tub on a deck in front of the sauna.
@@SalemWoodworks No channel anywhere is troll-free, lol. But I kinda get his point. This video is nothing more than entertainment since 99% of people out there don’t have a CNC machine. Nice design and you definitely show your skills, but c’mon man. Seriously, lol.
Nice design. Well engineered. Now I’ll just pull out my CNC machine (that we all have laying around) and make one for myself. 🤦♂️ Sorry but the title is just a little misleading. Should be called “Making an Amazing Wooden Door Latch (with my CNC machine)” and then people will know this is for entertainment and not education/DIY.
Always been a big fan of wood mechanisms with cams
Love the simple cam design. Like you, I’m a fan of levers. Cheers from Adelaide Hills, Australia
Cheers
Sorry, maybe I missed it, did you credit Matthias for the idea? It’s a good video, and get to see how it made. Thanks.

And here was me naively thinking this was going to be a hand made item lovingly crafted with skill. NO, switch on the CNC machine and go for a coffee.
And then there was me, thinking my channel was troll-free.

There are always other ways to achieve the same result. It would take longer, but this could be made with hand tools.
