Thanks, Brian. Covering which movies are ONLY available on DVD, or, as you have pitched it, are sorely in need of a release on blu ray, is one of my favorite topics that you or the other physical media UA-cam channels that I follow cover. So, I surely hope that you continue running with this topic. Maybe our fine folks at Kino or Imprint are watching and will obtain the rights to releasing some of these. Thanks, bro.!!!
Thanks so much and I’m glad to hear you enjoy this topic. It’s definitely one that fascinates me especially in an age of streaming and Blurays where some films get left behind and drop out of the conversation. I’m all about seeking out those films
Great video Brian. Would like to see more of these types of videos from your collection. Keep it up! One I have wanted to see released is the Marvin Chomsky film Murph the Surf from 1975. Robert Conrad plays the real life jewel thief Jack Roland Murphy and I don't believe it has ever been released on DVD let alone Blu-ray. Maybe one day!
Thinking of Neil Simon, I forgot to mention one of my favorite comedies by him---SEEMS LIKE OLD TIMES, with Chevy Chase, Goldie Hawn and the aforementioned Charles Grodin!
Still surprised CQ isn't on blu. Saw this in the theater, I bought both the soundtrack and eventually the DVD as soon as they were released. Aesthetics alone are top notch, and it has a fun story.
Really enjoy videos like this. I don't think I was familiar with any of these. Some sound really good. Will have to try to check them out, especially Shoot to Kill, American Splendor, Tape, and Heavy. Shoot to Kill kind of sounds similar to Hunted.
Brian, the French label Carlotta has the best blu-ray edition of "The Intruder" with its English audio track and optional French subtitles, also the correct aspect ratio.
I also want Minnie & Moskowitz to get a blu-ray- hopefully Criterion to go along with Cassavetes' other films, though Kino released Gloria. I watched it on The Criterion Channel a couple years ago and really enjoyed it.
Mangold actually got the rights back to HEAVY. He's the one who put it up on Netflix streaming. It can be licensed directly from him for streaming, so either no one has contacted him about it or he wants more for a license fee than anyone wants to pay.
THE HEARTBREAK KID reminds me of more Neil Simon movies that need bluray upgrades---THE CHEAP DETECTIVE, CHAPTER TWO, CALIFORNIA SUITE, THE STAR SPANGLED GIRL, MAX DUGAN RETURNS and THE SLUGGER'S WIFE!
Anchor Bay Entertainment came back into business earlier this year but no longer has the rights to their previous catalog. Hopefully any rights issues get cleared up for some of their previous releases. A film I'm looking forward to that I gave up hope of getting a Blu-ray is Gung Ho which finally got announced by Kino Lorber. Two other mainstream releases I'm hoping get picked up are the John Candy comedy Summer Rental and the Tony Danza comedy She's Out Of Control. My next import will be the Tom Hanks & John Candy comedy Volunteers which appears to have a Blu-ray release in Germany.
Amy Heckerling's I COULD NEVER BE YOUR WOMAN is also another lost gem. But I concur about JOHNNY DANGEROUSLY, and would add WISE GUYS with Piscopo and directed by De Palma!
So great seeing THEY ALL LAUGHED, MINNIE & MOSKOWITZ and CQ getting some attention (I love love love CQ). These definitely need Blu-rays. Not sure if this has happened to anyone else, but after recently trying to watch my copy of THEY ALL LAUGHED, the disc froze up about two thirds of the way through (chapter 10, I think). I was able to track down another copy--a brand-new one still in shrinkwrap, no less--and that one ALSO froze up at approximately the same spot. So I'm wondering if there was some authoring glitch that's incompatible with modern Blu-ray players? I also had a similar issue with multiple copies of THE SCIENCE OF SLEEP (on multiple players). If anyone else has had this problem, I'd love to know, since this is something that's pretty much impossible to Google!
@@JustTheDiscs Let us know how it works! FYI, the first scene to cause trouble was when Ritter and Stratten are in the bar making moony-eyes while Colleen Camp flirts and sings.
Great list. I would add Stepford Wives to the pile. Its not perfect (had Polanski done it, who knows) but conceptually its influence is still felt today. Very much a paranoid Invasion of the Body Snatchers type movie post womens lib. I would also like a proper release of Splash here in North America.
Would really like to see ‘Wired To Kill’ aka ‘Booby Trap’ get a blu ray release. I don’t think it’s even on DVD, just VHS?! Be great to see it receive a Vinegar Syndrome release,
Yeah it definitely is weird but it could been partially because it came out in a pocket of time before Blu-Ray and just never got upgraded. Here’s hoping it could still happen
Man… wish I enjoyed “California Suite” as much as you. Felt it was just a crummy film with dislikable characters. I’m possibly the only person on earth that prefers the remake of “The Heartbreak Kid”. Surprised the owners of the original don’t sell it off as they aren’t making a dime off of it these days. “Minnie & Moskowitz” is a classic. Criterion must have interest in releasing that if it’s available. HBO has somehow locked up nearly all of their productions. “They All Laughed” needs a bigger audience. “Johnny Dangerously”, “Night Shift” and “Mr Mom” classic Keaton. Very strange it’s not been released. No idea how “CQ” hasn’t been released yet. Would look stunning in 4K. Really enjoyed how Roman Coppola blended so many genres to make a unique film. Doesn’t get talked about enough imo. “Hot Pursuit” is definitely a lost one too. A good one in Cusack’s filmography. Can’t remember “How I Got Into College” at all. Lots of variations on that theme from around that time. “Shoot To Kill” eluded me. “American Spendor” like “Ghost World” and “Crumb” deserves a Criterion release especially since Harvey recently died. Haven’t seen “Tape”… just watched his recent movie “Hitman”… I’ll check that out! Also a fan of “The Intruder”… seems like Shout Factory could do this as a limited edition. Great wrap up!!

Just showed my teen son HOT PURSUIT and - as bonkers 80s as it is, lol - it still plays. Love these picks!
Nice! Yeah it’s pretty nutty especially for a Cusack film from that time
I love to see Death Weekend on blu ray and The Together Brothers and The Education of Sonny Carson. Great video.
Thanks for these suggestions!
Great vid Brian, I like you have alot of dvds I'll love on Bluray...Hopefully a label will watch your vid and look for some.
Fingers crossed!

Thank you! Wow I used to have an old clamshell of MURPH THE SURF! I remember liking it, but it’s been a long time.
Thinking of Neil Simon, I forgot to mention one of my favorite comedies by him---SEEMS LIKE OLD TIMES, with Chevy Chase, Goldie Hawn and the aforementioned Charles Grodin!
Big fan of SEEMS LIKE OLD TIMES - hoping of a Blu-ray asap.
Don Coscarelli's Kenny and Co. on Anchor Bay is at the top of my list. It used to be on cable all the time, just glad i got the dvd years ago.
Love KENNY & CO. I have a Japanese import Blu of it but it Absolutely needs a nice Blu-ray.
Still surprised CQ isn't on blu. Saw this in the theater, I bought both the soundtrack and eventually the DVD as soon as they were released. Aesthetics alone are top notch, and it has a fun story.
Agreed, I’m kinda shocked myself. Dvd has a ton of features to port over too
Really enjoy videos like this. I don't think I was familiar with any of these. Some sound really good. Will have to try to check them out, especially Shoot to Kill, American Splendor, Tape, and Heavy. Shoot to Kill kind of sounds similar to Hunted.
Thanks! Was excited to see THE HUNTED get announced for 4K recently btw

Thanks for the heads up!
I also want Minnie & Moskowitz to get a blu-ray- hopefully Criterion to go along with Cassavetes' other films, though Kino released Gloria. I watched it on The Criterion Channel a couple years ago and really enjoyed it.
Fingers crossed they can sort the rights! Perfect movie for criterion
A lot of nice choices here.I can never decide if should try and pick up the sometimes expensive DVD or just wait for the bluray we may never get.
This is my ongoing dilemma too. So hard to know what’s in the works
American Splendor is a rare kinda film. Fantastic.
Such a unique gem
Mangold actually got the rights back to HEAVY. He's the one who put it up on Netflix streaming. It can be licensed directly from him for streaming, so either no one has contacted him about it or he wants more for a license fee than anyone wants to pay.
Ahh very interesting. Hoping it’s not the latter.
I loved that movie
The Intruder has a nice French disc.
Somebody mentioned that in the comments and I have now ordered it
CALIFORNIA SPLIT is a great one....another gambling movie that needs a release is LOOKIN' TO GET OUT!
Yep, I’m all for that getting a a Blu too. Even FEVER PITCH with Ryan O’Neal - another gambling movie - needs a Blu
👍

Would love to see SUMMER RENTAL and SHES OUT OF CONTROL
get blue 🤞
I love SHE'S OUT OF CONTROL, would love VOLUNTEERS on bluray, also THE MAN WITH ONE RED SHOE and BAD MEDICINE with Steve Guttenberg
I'd buy California Split, Heartbeak Kid and Hot Pursuit for sure. I'll have to look into the others. The Night Before would be another fun 80s comedy.
Agreed NIGHT BEFORE is fun and underseen & needs a Blu-ray
Wish we could get GOODBYE COLUMBUS on bluray too
Yes! Good call! I am a big fan of
For Classic period, Gregory La Cava comes to mind. How does Stage Door alone not have a boutique release!?
Also a very good question!
Amy Heckerling's I COULD NEVER BE YOUR WOMAN is also another lost gem. But I concur about JOHNNY DANGEROUSLY, and would add WISE GUYS with Piscopo and directed by De Palma!
Been meaning to watch that movie too!
I could definitely see Kino Lorber releasing many if these titles on Blu-ray or 4K.
I hope so 🤞

Oh crap I should check my dvd!

A good call. I’m due for a rewatch
And thank you!
Paul Verhoeven's masterpiece The 4th Man.
Yup, I have the anchor bay dvd and will definitely include in a future “needs a Blu-ray” video
Would really like to see ‘Wired To Kill’ aka ‘Booby Trap’ get a blu ray release. I don’t think it’s even on DVD, just VHS?! Be great to see it receive a Vinegar Syndrome release,
Nice, never seen it. Adding to my list!
Seems weird that American Splendor never got a Blu. It must have come out just before Blu-Ray started being made.
Yeah it definitely is weird but it could been partially because it came out in a pocket of time before Blu-Ray and just never got upgraded. Here’s hoping it could still happen
Fantastic picks.
Thank you kindly!
CQ is a great movie! Wish THE SPIRIT OF '76, co-written by Roman Coppola and Rob Reiner's brother Lucas would get a bluray!
Have yet to see that I think - adding to my watchlist

Thx! Appreciate you watching!
Sleuth (1972).
Definitely on my list for a U.S. release however I was able to get both Spanish and French blurays of SLEUTH last year
Haven't seen CQ since it came out. That's an odd duck of a movie. Might be a tough sell on physical media.
👍
Minnie & Moskowitz. Man, I don't know if they were in love or the world forced them together.
Yep
Wish they'd release Peter Bogdonavich's THE THING CALLED LOVE as well as NICKELODEON, even NOISES OFF and ILLEGALLY YOURS!
Yes to all of those, especially NOISES OFF which with be on a future installment of this series
Would really love to see Breaking Away 1979 get a Blu release. Twilight Time had it a while back but now oop. A 4k scan would be great as well lol
