Your answer to the guy who asked if the Rottie bites is what I always say about dogs, "They ALL bite." Wish I could have been down there. I'm not far away from DelMar.
kind of got the vibe it was more a fuck off were working while being polite. And a lot of people would take it as all rotties bite rather than all dogs bite.I always went out of my way to let people pet mine same with the mastiff mix i have now. Always let kids pet him but teach them to always ask the owner first and be calm.
This is such a good video. I'd consider myself a very experienced big dog owner (including Rottweilers), but this video showed me some things that I was forgetting.
Ah, the old “do they bite?” question. 😂 My response has always been, “Depends. They got teeth and a mouth? If so, yeah. Probably.” But this owner amazes me. One of the most frustrating things to see with dog reactive/aggressive dogs is their owner failing to take any sort of charge over their dog, or even acknowledge that there /is/ a problem. This woman clearly loves her dogs, understands what they need, and takes the time and money to meet those needs. SO much respect for her!
I can see how some of these subtle signs can be missed. The way you did this video, pointing out small things with owner, and talking about/showing the difference when you did it, was VERY helpful. Excellent video, thank you!
Such great advice and guidance every time! The more videos you post training different dogs with different behaviors, the more situations I can relate to with my dog. Thanks so much!
Beautiful dogs...and she's done a fantastic job (85% there with training) you can see the time and effort that she's already done with both her Cane Corso and Rottweiler. Cannot wait to see @TomDavis continuing to help her understand how to bring both dogs to 95-100%. Nice! So refreshing to see a very responsible pet owner 👏🏻
This lady seems like a good owner. I'm not a per se "dog lover" but man that's an beautiful animal. Her happiness, her eyes, the color, and that round head drew me in big time.
Wow such a great video!! Tom really has a way of explaining things from the dogs point of view that is so helpful to us as owners. I cannot wait to implement the lessons of this video on Xander’s next walk tomorrow morning!! I have gone from being afraid of running into other dogs and people to viewing them as training opportunities!! Tom Davis you have saved my best friends life!!!
Just realized I do the same thing. Some days I'm really clear with heel and break and others I am lazy and don't really care. I'm going to try to be more consistent in the future so my dog isn't getting confused. Loving your videos by the way. Learning so much!
The praise you gave this dog was really enjoyed by the dog, without excitement. The owner is not encouraging the dog. I'm so glad you pointed this out. In all a good dog with a few owner issues. No disrespect to the owner of cause. Great job Tom . Thanks : )
OMG I love Tom. I wish he would come to Florida! We I've been working on my Doberman's reactivity using his techniques. I have seen so much progress. Tom even solves problems I didn't know were problems. I struggled with the working/break mentality and his solution is so straight forward and simple. Thanks for another great video. You are changing human and dog lives for the better every day! Keep up the great work!
I love rotties but why cut their tails off 😭 so sad. My friend has a Rottweiler he has a tail to be proud off and he’s super friendly and wags it all the time ❤️
In the states its mostly for show now to make them look tough but it was for when they are used for work it helps keep them from getting caught or hurt uk doesnt do it really anymore now
Rottweilers are WORKING DOGS. For their safety on the job, the tail is docked. You only get 1 chance to dock a tail without a risk of making a super sensitive nub with exposed nerves and that’s as a puppy. That’s before you are 100% certain the pup is going to be working a job their whole life. Beyond a certain point, the spinal cord descends into the tail. Before it you can dock the tail with no risk of discomfort beyond the initial healing. I’ve had a Rottweiler that kept her tail and broke it from normal wear n tear. It can happen in a split second. For the past 5 years of her life I cannot even wash her tail because the slightest touch hurts her so so so bad. I regret not having it docked as a puppy every day since. Your heart is in the right place... But you know nothing
LOL!!!! I can answer that! SO YOU CAN HAVE SOMETHING LEFT ON THE COFFEE TABLES AND END TABLES AT THE END OF THE DAY!!! I have 5 Rotties that live with my family, and all have their tails docked THANK GOD!!! I had a Shepard once and that was bad enough; occasionally would sweep the coffee table clean with one swish of his tail! A Rottie's tail is stouter still, and imagine FIVE!!! You'd be beaten to death! They are a working breed, but more importantly, they take the dew claws when they dock the tails, and WOW does that save the dogs some hassles down the road as well as pain for me! Dew claws are a rough go all the way round, but they usually don't like to take them alone around here without the docking in addition for some reason. For me, I just like the look. Some day I'm going to hook them all up to a specially built cart I'm going to make for them and have them pull it. Swear I am. THEN they'll have a practical purpose for themselves as well.....

You just have to listen to the professional ( Upstate Canine Academy) and put in the time and you and your dog will be greatly rewarded in many, many ways .
I did not understand how Lucky I was to grow up in San Diego….as a kid. A throw away from Coronado Island, Belmont Pier, Sea Wold, San Diego Zoo, LaJolla, Del Mar, Imperial Breach. I get it now, for sure. How fortunate. Living by the Pacific Ocean, is absolutely amazing. I’m so sad that I can’t afford to be there now. I mean…..look at this walk. Right on the beach. I use to run, everyday on the beach. It was always just….there. Like a regular every day thing. But hardly anyone has that, where they live. SD is legit the best.
You have a natural affinity for dogs and provided a great reaction to her dog being aggressive towards other dogs. But why not also share a possible solution to the core problem, which is socializing the dog with other dogs to slowly remove the aggression.
So, you are showing larger shepherds, putting a herm sprenger 2.25 on them. They do not make the 2.25 in larger sizes. How are you doing that? Do you buy extra links and make it larger on your own?
So on a "normal walk", do you have them in "break"? For example, most of the time I'd take my rottie (and soon to be GSD) on a walk is down the road in our quiet, country neighborhood. I don't need them in a heel necessarily, but I don't really want them "leading" or "pulling".
Hey man I love you videos, you really seem to understand and get to the underlying problems dogs are having. You probably won't see this comment, but I'm having problems with my dogs obedience . He's a great dog, but has lots of energy, which he uses with his brother and they are great, but he doesn't like to listen/gets distracted so easily he just can't help but chase things. Both my dogs typically will hangout on the porch when I'm out front. Never had issues but recently my dog (little over 1yro gsp mix rescue) has been running after things. Not aggressive, just gets excited and runs. And I can't get his attention back to me in these situations. Same in the backyard if he's running he doesn't stop
Hi, usually any problems our dogs are having is caused by lack of direction from us humans, i thought I was a good dog owner and then after 36 years have had massive problems with a chi of mine, Tom made me realise that 1, I had been lucky previously with my dogs and 2 that I was a lot less educated on what I need to do to have a well balanced dog. Keep watching Tom's videos, he has ones to cover many problems. Sounds like your dog has a higher prey drive than some. Good luck.
He just gets so excited and distracted. Even training with food, he is very food driven. But he gets so excited for food that he can not containment himself lol. He's a good pup, just soo hyper. Like a 6 year old with really bad adhd haha. My mother says he's me in a dog. But he's my third, the others were calmer, easier to work with. I just can't seem to keep his attention. Or get it once he's off. And he typically doesn't chase like squirrels, he normally runs up to my neighbors, or dogs. He's very well mannered with both, so I'm not worried about that just need to get it into his head that he needs to listen, and only say hi to everyone when I tell him he can
As with anything, start with a lure (treat) to their nose. Bring it up to your eyes, and when their eyes hit yours, mark it with "Watch me" or something similar. Reward. Repeat over and over for.. forever. :)
Cassandra King I have one that just turned a year old. She’s off the wall as well, but I must say she is getting better. You have to work with them a all of the time.

Even near perfect trained huskies will start to not listen if there's a lack of exercise. and just be patient as well as consistent in the training, and work in rewards when doing it correctly. They're very smart and she'll catch on. :P
@@Th1sUsernameIsNotTaken I totally agree. Mine is very smart, and very stubborn all at the same time. Completely typical of the breed. Which is why I love her. She's a fun challenge. And very loyal. Need to give them some positives too. 😊
Thomas where's the best place to get prong collars, I'm a VA at banfield and PetSmart customers always try to buy them and I wanna know where to send them
That dude who just reached in to get the dog to sniff him is the reason why so many people get bit. I have a 110-pound 3 year old rotty and he tore up my neighbors arm pretty bad…. Because he for some reason felt the need to try to have my dog sniff him. Bad idea.
Ok, great, I figured that was the problem. I need one of those collars, I know you say they aren't spiked, but they have points that can replicate a mother's mouth in the act of correcting bad behavior. I don't know what they are called but I have seen them in the past and we used on when I was a kid for our male Rottweiler who was overly protective of all of us.
Ppl equate “control” with constant leash tension. Totally counterproductive. It’s weird how certain concepts apply to many things..in brass playing some have a mouth placement that relies on a stiff control, this doesn’t allow a soft entrance, but if you take a totally relaxed embouchure and develop a vibration from when you start to blow, it’s like..giving up one kind of control to achieve a much better kind of control.

I have a question for you and I need some advice. I have a 15 month old King Shepherd puppy. He weighs 115 pounds. But I can not leave him outside in our fenced yard or turn my back on him for 30 seconds because he will grab rocks and eat them and swallow them. When he gets a rock in his mouth the drop it and come command does not work he will not even drop it for chicken. Even with me sitting in the ground he will run from me to keep me from getting the rock from him. PLEASE can you tell me what I can do to help my baby. Thank you sincerely.
COUNTRY BREAZE you have described the way my dobie does with rocks. She eats big rocks, we fight with this everyday ugg. I wish I knew the answer of why she eats them.
*This woman does not need to have a Rottweiler. She seems to want to have it for protection. But what she doesn't know is that dogs need to be trained for protection and that more than 90% of dogs that are not trained for protection are only good to bark a couple times before they back off.*
Could you not judge what this woman wants her dog for? Lmao. It’s clear she enjoys them as a family member if she was WILLING enough to get a trainer to correct mistakes

Thats pica. You may have to give your dog more mental stimulation and physical activity dogs do that type of stuff if theyre bored.
Ah-Ah!
I can't even get my dog that close to any dog he will lunge and bark constantly, hes a shepherd mix and very strong,,plz help!!
the dog before 1:28,which is following commands is different from the dog afterwards ! why? ( no pun intended )
