I seriously think this is the best film I've ever watched. It may sound cliched, however words genuinely aren't sufficient to succinctly describe how amazing this film is
We watched this film in school as the last film of our school career. Everyone was mad when we watched it but me and my friend where the only ones who liked this movie as fuck. I cant understand the others its a greate fucking story with a good plot. Amen
It basically was an early drone. According to Emmanuel Previnaire, founder of the Flying-Cam system, "The shot was done with our crew using the Flying-Cam I Unmanned Remote helicopter. At that early age of the system we had only a fixed camera head... the shot started in front of the window with the Remote PIlot on top of the roof and flying away between the buildings." www.cinematography.com/index.php?showtopic=43731
Seen this movie 1st time when i was 13-14yrs old, im now 47, seen it atleast 20 times since and still love it! Also great to see how vincent made it to hollywood etc… ocean’s 12-13 and many other very good movies

Cette scene fantastique , avais anticipé ci bien le contraste croissant entre differente culture en France...la voix de Piaf comme un phantome du passé...il y a simplement du genie dans ce film.
You really can't mimic this shot with a drone. The way the camera ever so slightly shakes and swings as it pans, almost as if it's hanging, conveys so much more than what would be shown through a smooth or jerky shot you'd get from a drone.
does anyone know what record(s) he uses at the beginning? can't figure it out...even though I''ve been trying for years. So artist and title please. thanks in advance. 😉
@artysmokes From the "jump" through the window 'till the end, the camera is under a radiocontrolled helicopter. They had to modify the first pictures because originaly their were reflects of the toy in the windows. You can find this informations in the whole DVD movie "La Haine" by Kassovitch, with director's comments.
I think it's supposed to be in a north suburb of Paris, but the idea of the story was that it reflect that side of society as a whole so maybe they want you to see it as potentially being any of of the banlieuse. It was shot in the Paris suburb Chanteloup-les-Vignes (according to Wikipedia).
They're in the suburbs of Paris, normally called la cité, or just la banlieue. It was created in the 60s and 70s when there was a large amount of immigrants coming into France and the government didn't know where to put them. Over time, it just because a place for the lower class.
anyone know how the flying scene at the end of the clip was filmed? Dont think they had proper drones in 1995 and dont think they could have used helicopter?
It was with a remote control helicopter - probably not a quad-rotor one like we associate with the word "drone" now. Really unusual for 1994, especially for a low-budget movie! I don't know how they connected the camera to the RC helicopter, but you can see the camera roll clockwise/anticlockwise in the latter half of the shot as the helicopter banks. I'm guessing they had only a single degree of freedom with which to control the camera's angle relative to the helicopter's body - a motorised hinge, for pitching up/down - and they yawed the helicopter itself to turn left/right. So the shot starts by lowering the hinge from looking horizontally to vertically *while* the helicopter yaws its body to the right. It's a really cool look that you couldn't easily achieve with modern drones that have stabilised/gimballed camera mounts which disconnect the drone's rotation from the camera's.
One of my all time favorite movies, if it's not my absolutely favourite. But i got one question, that i always asked myself: I'm Deejaying too, but not on a professional level. I don't get how DJ's can scratch on both turntables, while the Beat is still running normally. How is this possible?? I also recognized that on life shows, but i just can't figure out how this works, if there are just 2 Turntables and not 3 or 4.
+stcost27 It's called beat juggling. While he is scratching on one, the other deck is spinning. Then he crosses over quickly to do the same on the other side. The sample that is playing at the time on the spinning record is carrying the beat. The trick is knowing where your cues are and keeping the beat on time while switching back and forth.
If you're switching back and forth between tables, there's never really one beat continuously playing, but part of the skill of beat juggling is never making that seem audibly obvious. It's impressive when the beat juggling itself creates a new and dynamic beat. For me, scratching was always fun to fuck around with and was plety of fun, but the real pleasure for me was perfect beat-matching. Especially after having to fuck with it a while, but when you get the tempo, bars, the instruments all snapped tight and pefectly mixed... Fuckkk you just lay back and enjoy your own unique mix, nothing else like it. I miss Djing

They actually used a remote control helicopter with a camera attached to it. Totally makes the shot way more badass imo.
haha i was wondering how they did this, was a long time before commercial drones were a thing
@@jan8742Damn, I didn't think of that XD.
The KRS ONE and Edith Piaf mix
is brilliant.
this shot would be so easy today. I wonder how they did it back then
true now any joe with a drone can do it
Had to be some expensive Rigs back then to get that shot. Now could be easily done with a bullshit toy drone. That's technology for you.
