The FA was the ultimate extension of the FM/FE series of cameras, adding a huge bundle of technical features. As noted, its concern over the reliability of the new technical features plus its high price resulted in poor sales, even though it several international awards for its advances. It represents Nikon's transition from the era of manual cameras to the future of automation. Although I now forget what the problem was, it did develop one problem for which it was criticized as time passed. Its problem as a user today is that later cameras, particularly the F100, while not as pretty, provide all of the FA features and many more features and advances at a used price which is commonly half or less of a minty FA. Little known is the fact that much of the exposure automation of the FA (not the matrix meter however) were incorporated in the inexpensive and little discussed FG body, released about 18 months before the FA, which became something of a test bed for that technology (very successfully).

Brilliant body. Have several and I've adapted it, without modification, to use the new G lenses. Simply love it!
