Legend has it, Benny the Spaceman is still screaming "SPACESHIP" in the distance while building spaceships to this day.

The moment they release a new non Star Wars, NASA or city dedicated space theme, I'm getting it I love the space themes
SPAAAAAAACCCCCEEEE!!!!
I am so sick of starwars.
BTW the remake if the Galaxy Explorer is out. I saw it at WalMart. It's got a classic. Look to it. Lie and grey.
@@secretsquirrel6718 I’m not sick of Star Wars
We ordered the Galaxy explorer online it's awesome
Seeing a LEGO set for under $1 is crazy. Now the cheapest sets are 2-5$
I think that 1 dollar used to be worth way more.
@@awesomealbertt1150 yeah, inflation and stuffs
Cheapest i seen was $10 and it had 100 pieces
The cheapest LEGO set in a box I’ve seen was £8, a Stuntz motorcycle.
Nah I think they're like 4-5 dollars
It's unfortunate/weird how Alien Conquest failed, I recall it being a decent theme, and yet I don't have a single set from the line. It would seem now in retrospect that perhaps it got outcompeted by other themes. I mean Castle was still a thing at the time, Ninjago was just starting up, along with Atlantis being fairly popular, and of course Star Wars was stronger than ever.
LEGO Star Wars was having one of its hottest years in 2011, so I guess there just wasn't enough business to go around. And an alien invasion theme seemed corny and outdated, even though the Alien Conquest sets looked very cool themselves.
As a kid I loved alien conquest and even entered a competition held by a tv network to try to win the entire set. I really hope they do a similar theme in the future with cooler ships and more advanced builds. It doesn't have to be an alien invasion theme because I suppose it's part of why alien conquest failed but something with at least a similar style would make me extremely happy and would also make my bank account cry.
Right now I'm trying to complete the set because I really wanted to do that as a kid. When the set first came out I managed to get the mothership, alien abduction, and earth hq before it got cancelled. Didn't help that my little brother would be careless when we played with the alien conquest stuff and would break stuff and lose bricks. He even ate one of the bricks lmao. So considering we never had much money, my mum considered it too expensive to keep buying us lego.
Now that I'm an adult and my brother is old enough not to eat my lego sets I can enjoy lego again :D. My mother is getting me Saturn V for christmas and after the christmas period I'm going to work on completing alien conquest again.
@@Singularian Personally I quite like the retro style aliens with the bubble glass domes and flying saucer type of thing, it's just has this whimsical charm to it that's really fun, so I also hope they bring something like that back.
When you said your brother ate a piece of lego, I pictured a 2x2 brick, I'm assuming that's not the case though... lmao
@@pewpewdragon4483 I think it was one of the flat 2x2s? I don't quite remember.
Also yeah, I'm a fan of the traditional alien invasion, I always have been. Only difference between me and the average alien invasion enjoyer is that I root for the aliens
@@Singularian any 2x2 lego piece sounds painful to eat... I guess its no fun when the people always win, its more exciting when the aliens win some too
The 1997 UFO sets were easy to combine with your City sets to create a spectacular 'alien invasion' scenario. This was during the reign of The X-Files, Independence Day, and Men In Black. I remember turning my police station into the FBI headquarters, the whole 'Res-Q' line was a secret government clean up agency. The 'Divers' theme was tasked with finding some underwater magical McGuffin to help fight the aliens. A 'flashback' scenario was played out at the same time with the 'Adventurers' series depicting how the McGuffin was originally found in ancient Egypt and subsequently lost again. Epic, epic times.
This was a great trip down memory lane!
I'm in that 1978-87 Lego Space generation. No goodies and baddies; no storylines; just explorers with radios and metal detectors. When I played with the old sets, it was all about fixing crashed spaceships, or missing astronauts. If I wanted to do space battles, I had my Star Wars toys to play with (at that time, only the Lego Castle sets had weapons - swords and shields). I figured the different coloured astronauts meant they had different jobs to do (like the colour-coded uniforms in Star Trek), not that they were rival factions. Maybe it's a generational thing, but I like the idea that the original space sets stuck to Lego's old, pacifist ideals - they didn't need weapons or police, the universe was interesting enough without them! (My last sets were the first "Light & Sound" sets - after that I grew out of playing with Lego...)
Born 78. Memories.
I remember the trailer for Galaxy Squad, it was a direct continuation of that really cool Monster Fighters theme. I loved how they intertwined the story from one theme to another, even if I never ended up getting any of the sets.
My dad had some of these sets when he was young, when i visit my Grandparents I rebuild them and put them on display. Its so fun!
So very cute and wonderful! The details are amazing in this!
What about this is cute???
I liked Alien Conquest and the UFO sets were my favourite sets from the theme. The best part was that all the UFO sets had different features, such as the mothership being able to spin and the "UFO abduction" set was able to pick up minifigures and light up.
I love Blacktron so much, easily my favorite Lego line. Glad to see it get a little coverage in this video.
Hiiii
Hello
Hi!
Next video can u do the following
Evolution of lego city set
Evolution of lego police set
Evolution of lego train set
Evolution of lego airport and plane
Castle and Pirates would be more interesting, as the town/city stuff is all pretty samey.
Trains!
3:33 The Hylian Space Aeronautics Agency was built all those years ago?
(The 3 Golden Triangles on the Blacktron Ship looks like the Triforce.)
A Sierpinski triangle after the first iteration.
I was so young when I got one of my first sets that I didn’t even know what it was or where it came from. It was gifted to me by a family friend and here, 11 years later, I’m just learning what it was. It was an ice planet set. I believe I still have the minifigure from is somewhere, but I probably turned the set into something else over the years of Lego building. I just got hit with a wave of nostalgia by the images in this video and decided to write this absolutely absurdly long comment. Thank you.

Amazing video Spit!
Brought back some old memories and nostalgia.
I had no idea that some of these sets and themes were released only couple years after I was born.
I remember having set 6815 Hovertron from Exploriens theme with these fancy holographic stickers.
Great vid
Agreed

Cool
Me too
Thank you for a trip down memory lane! UFO and Insectoids were my jam as a child when I was about 7 years old. Loved those so much!
13:00 Wow, Wrench not only has the Blacktron II insignia (from the first space minifig I had from 1993), but also his torso pattern is a facelifted Blacktron I upper body! :O
Man i forgot how goated 90s space - life on mars was. That was my childhood. They were the sickest
This was a great and nostalgic recap! Here's hoping LEGO brings back space themes outside of STAR WARS and the current city sets. Thanks!
The Space theme of the 1900s was a great concept by creating multiple additions to one over arching theme over many years. Current Lego themes seem to be very serialized in terms of their world building and don’t often expand on themselves in the same way that the Lego systems space theme did. The many different factions each offered a completely unique identity and theme which allowed to build upon the open world of this theme. I wish Lego would do more themes with multiple different factions that can be collected instead of the good guy vs bad guy themes we often see. The Lego systems space theme was a little ahead of my time but finding the transparent and fluorescent pieces from these sets got me really excited. Those pieces were considered rare and collectible when I was a kid and I always wanted them!
I would love it if LEGO rebooted Space Police again, or if they rebooted Galaxy Squad. Those two were the ones I had when I was little, and I always get some nostalgia when looking at those sets.
Space police 3 was LEGENDARY
Maybe it's just nostalgia but I honestly feel like I was lucky enough to grow up in Lego's golden age. The late 80s and early to mid 90s themes were just the coolest.
Dude I freakin LOVED GALAXY SQUAD! it was so cool to me at the time and I only had one small set of the theme lmao
And for 2022 LEGO releases the reimagined Galaxy Explorer (10497) spaceship. I'll be buying a few of those sets. I also hope Ice Planet or Classic Space or another space theme gets a reboot in the near future.
I hope they create a small line with update of a lot of classic set updated 6980 6985 6970 6950 6973 6982 6989 7314 5974 6987 70708 6979 7066 6990 and 6848
I had been playing with Lego since 1969. Life on Mars was the first theme I felt compelled to collect every set.
you forgot one theme in this video. The lego rock raiders theme was released in 1999 and introduced several new pieces, such as the chrome drill, blade saw and hollow boulder. It was discontinued in 2000, but has a spiritual successor in 2009s power miner theme, which continued and developed on many of the same ideas.
I'd forgotten how quickly they ran through those themes in the early to mid 90's, my heyday of playing with Lego. I had at least one set each from Blacktron, M-tron, Space Police, Spyrius, Ice Planet, and Unitron. Had honestly forgotten about a couple of them, thanks for that jolt of nostalgia!
He spends so much time on these vids and still makes them funny!!!
I love the new lego spaceship set
I absolutely love the 1980s Lego land space so basic and the mini figures are brilliant they are my favourite Lego stets to bad I don't have any due to them being vintage and costing tons of money the simple 1980s space theme should return. I would love it to.
YO, set #367, my dad owned that one! I think we even still have the box! That's so cool! And that Ice Planet fanart tho?? That stuff's sick! And wow the hit of pure nostalgia when Mars Mission was mentioned. I miss that series SO much.
same. was my favourite series as a kid and i loved it
Mars mission and space police 3 are probably my favorites. I wish I was a little older so I could have gotten them
14:34 are you one of those people, SpitBrix?
20 seconds I’m already in love with this video
Same
Monkie Kid as a whole LEGO theme is largely underrated. Whether you’re a fan of Monkie Kid or not, most of the sets are BEAUTIFUL and very well designed with a lot to offer. Too bad, as it seems so many folks will miss out on a wonderful LEGO theme!
Mars Mission was a part of my childhood so damn much.
My lego space journey started with m-tron. I loved space themes the most. The majority of sets I had were space themed and pirates. I had multiple sets. I had a lot of Spyrius, but man I was LOVING the Ice planet. They were on the decline, and there was only one lego store in my city back then, so we managed to get only like three small sets. But I loved them to bits.
God this video brings back memories.
I wish Lego would either do a new line of classic space...or introduce a modernized incarnation of the classic space theme. Basically, bring back the simple, exploration style theme but with modern components and build techniques
I mostly remember the 90's lego sets from lego racers the computer game.
There was a race track on the ice planet with captain cold as the main opponent.
Another one was on a volcano moon with white and blue themed space parts, similar to Explorian.
The Insectoid space theme was also present, one race track was alien-themed with a saucer trap which dragged the racing cars with it's tractor beam.
Ice Planet had an immense effect on my life.
Unlike everyone else here, I'm actually watching the video
Hey I am :) maybe everyone else isn’t though
I've got the odd space set here and there, a bunch of space police 1 and 2. But it was a really good Christmas when my parents bought me sets 6834, 6879, 6898 and 6973 from the ice planet set.
I remember getting in a huff because mum wanted me to open them in that order, small to large, and I wanted to open whatever I wanted. She was right, of course. Her method was better. It usually was =)
I really wanted 6983 but that big base was pricey. Never got any of the large lego bases, sadly.
I recall UFO didn't really do it for me. I went off the space stuff, but instead got really into Aquanauts
I would love to see revival of Blacktron, Space Police, M-Tron etc, but then more in the spirit of what they should be while using more modern ways to build things.
When i was a child in the early 2000's My uncle gave me his Legos from his child hood. They were the original 1978 Production. Even 20 odd years later it blew my 5 year old mind.
Oh, please do lego adventure next! The Orient sets are some of my favorites, so much awesome stuff in those sets
One of them was my third or fourth lego set ever
My headcanon was that the Spyrius guys were humanoid aliens. It's also my headcanon that Life on Mars and Mars Mission are the same continuity.
So cool. Classic Space was my thing. I remember playing with my brother as our minifigs explored the vast cavern below our dad's recliner.
I'm excited for the new Space wave coming in 2024.
Space sets were my introduction into Lego building as a kid. I got sets from Spyrius, Ice Planet, and Space Police 2. (Back in 94-95-ish)
Remember the big Lego Technic action figures? Twice the size of normal Lego person with detailed joint flexibity. They were epic!
Space and Aquazone are still my favorite sets ever.
I really hope that Lego space series will return. For now I need to wait with my rebooted galaxy Explorer
That set is the first set in 20 years Lego has made that really got me interested in looking at what they had again. I like the Pacman set and the roller coaster. Other than that.... still.... who is at the helm of this company I wonder?
I had so many ice planet sets. Those were the best sets I think I ever had
The sled is really popular. It could sit next to the old Lego Space sets and was as good of a design of many 1979-1980 Lego Space. We used to talk about that set at work, wondering if Lego would ever come out with any decent Lego Space sets again.
Finally, decades later... Galaxy Explorer 2 shipped!
If anything, this video makes me feel old - and shows me how short childhood really is. I had one or two Futuron sets, but it was really M-Tron, then Blacktron2 and finally SP2 that were my world for a while. Those days seemed forever. But when Ice planet came around, I had already started moving on to Technic sets.
6:50 bro predicted it
Great vid’, had space Lego in the early 1980’s.
Didn’t realise how far it had advanced since then. Totally cool!
Always loved the alien minifigs in UFO and Insectoid themes, but the builds themselves were pretty boring. Half the ship would just be one big custom shaped piece.
I am glad I'm outgrew space Lego in the mid '80s. Clearly that was the heyday and everything since then feels like an also ran...
The new Galaxy Explorer set is worth picking up while it's cheeeep. It's the best Space set ever, by far.
I like the fact that the first Lego set was a rocket ship just to turn out to the most iconic themes
Man, I miss the older Lego sets. Something about them being more 'generic' made them more interesting
Alien conquest is like war of the worlds from a book from very long ago from a very long time ago in a galaxy far far away Star wars theme starts
The first Space Police and Blacktron sets could have setup a nice setting for more storytelling.
I like classic space the most
Our parents got some of these as kids, when we were around five, we took them in, but we are now low on the older precise. We were lucky to see these at all in person.
M-Tron for Magnet makes it basically Magnet-Tron.
Which is hilarious to me, because the Dutch word for "Microwave" is Magnetron
The magnetron is the part in a microwave oven that emits the microwaves.
Space police 3 is truly my favorite set
Watched this vid 5 times love it!
It’s interesting how the sets of the era reflect public views of space. First as a beekeeping new future then as a scary war filled future and this cycle keeps happening
Nostalgia:)
I'm sorry for the length of this comment.
Igot into LEGO through Bionicle and didn't get into LEGO Space until 2014 with the LEGO Movie. Needless to say, Benny was very effective at promoting his theme.
Since then, I've been buying what Classic Space sets and Minifigs I could. I don't have anything that predates the LEGO Movie (or Benny's Spaceship from said movie), but I bought CMF Benny with the robot arm, Benny's LEGO Dimensions Fun Pack, Benny's Space Squad a couple LEGO Movie sets featuring Benny, 2 90th Anniversary Galaxy Explorers, the Minifigs Book with the Orange Astronaut, the CMF Blacktron and Space Police Minifigs, a handful of CMF Brown Astronauts (with the baby Astronauts), the book with the Micro Scale Space Cruiser, a few sets with Minifigs that reference Classic Space, and a number of the City Space sets.
And no, I don't have the GWP Blacktron set that just came out. I don't live anywhere near a LEGO Store, and I don't have a means to buy sets online. So sadly that set isn't part of my collection. But I do have one of the Martians oddly enough. I think it could be Vega, whichever one was the most common.
And each year, a local toy store hosts a LEGO Display contest, and I eventually want to make a Classic Space display (if it fits with the theme) using my collection. Despite it mostly being comprised of sets and Minifigs released in the past decade, I want this display to honor the theme's history.
I want to to be a base inspired by the original 1978 line of sets, mostly populated by those style of Astronauts. Fortunately the Galaxy Explorer has a radar print featuring the original Blacktron logo, so I'll sneak in the Blacktron Bounty Hunter on a secret infiltration mission in the base, with the Space Police guy hot on his trail. I may have to build MOC Spaceships for the two of them, so I might add Vega as a previously captured inmate or as a Blacktron bounty target. I may add other referential material if I find some in my collection. For example, the CMF Gamer Minifig has a Torso with several Space theme logos printed on it like M-Tron and the two Blacktron logos. Maybe I could find a way to justify City Space elements, because the logos are similar enough to possibly justify it. At least Solar Panels will be easy to justify.
If anyone reads this, I am open to suggestions. I am still brainstorming, and the next Display is this August. The theme for the display hasn't even been picked yet.
This vid is really exotic
Loved that little 1997-2001 period, which seemed so long because I was a kid at the time but it was just four years. I had sets from Insectoids, Life on Mars, UFOs, and other sets from around that period of time and loved them. Aquanauts/Aquazone too - even though it wasn't a space theme it had those vibes.
Mars Mission is what I grew up with
I was waiting for some great sets out of that but never saw any in the stores. At the time I had lots of disposable cash and was ready to spend $1,000 on a Lego Space/Mars annual set... but they just didn't look that great.
Great video again SpitBrix, love these ones! I've been watching your videos for a while now and each one is great!
Actually the Space Race began in 1957 with the Soviet launch of Sputnik 1. You are right though that the peak of it was in the 1960s.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane :)
Loved those Blacktron (2) sets, big part of my childhood. Please do a video like this on the Castle series!
You should do a video of the evolution of the Lego box art
the late 80s/early 90s Futuron-Blacktron-Space Police-MTron was the best phase of the space sets
The Zelda triangle logo was used on Lego years before Zelda
14:26 my biggest lego i ever have in my life at christmas
I like to think that lego city space is a prequel to lego space
I like to think it is the same thing, just later. A continuation. A sequel, if you will.
And all the faction crap has nothing to do with space exploration, and more to do with Masters of the Universe.
My very first lego kits were a couple smaller blacktron, mtron, and ice planet 2000 kits. I had those pieces for a really long time and by the time I was in my teens I had long lost the instructions and had no idea what the kits looked like lol. I still remember all the commercials for a lot of these sets from the 90's
ORANGE TRANSPARENT CHAINSAW
That UFO set brings back good memories
13:10 OMG WE HAD THAT SET- my brother and I would have been barely old enough to remember but I recognize that’s build lol
I think this video is great. I miss the classic themes! I am really not at all fond of Lego's foray into licensed sets (though I totally understand why) or the evolution of themes like Ninjago, Chima, etc. I loved building castles and pirate ships and towns. I guess in my grumpy-old-man way, I'm saying I'd love to see more videos like this one based on the other classic themes!
98 cents in 1964 would be the equivalent to the set costing about $10 today.
Brick Daddy has to be the best name I ever heard for a minifigure
Petition for Lego to bring back ice planet
Born in '90, definitely remember having all the robotech and insectoids. My cousin had the Ufo sets, and we would build spaceships the battle with dice. Rolls would be how many pieces the lasers would blast off.
I love lego space, this is by far his best video so far
