No, it was all part of the test: Buttered popcorn was in the first bin, the liquid waste of test animals was in the second bin. During the double-blind test, you guessed incorrectly. You got *Bin 2 Wrong!*
I wonder if this has anything to do with why none of the theaters in Thailand have buttered popcorn. I only ever saw popcorn flavors of salted, cheese, BBQ or caramel. Never buttered.
I remember learning about the Binturong from Zaboomafoo. They named him "Popcorn". This is literally the only animal I remember from Zaboomafoo. Well, other than the lemur.
Well, at least the final moments of a little critter's life whilst being eaten by these guys is full of joy! - because when does popcorn _not_ make any occasion joyous!?
Binturongs are pretty awesome. The local zoo had a pair when I was a kid, and the zookeepers would walk them around the zoo on leashes. They had no concept of going around things, instead whenever they encountered a barrier like a planter box or a bench they simply climbed up one side and down the other.
Binturongs are have been my favorite animal since I first learned of their existence when I was a kid. They’re just so awesome looking! And they’re legal to own in a quite a few states(given that you have the proper habitat and possibly a few permits depending on the state). Owning one is a life goal of mine.
Binturongs are the largest animal with a prehensile tail. While they are classified as carnivores, they are actually more omnivorous. They are so chill
So cool! I just saw a Binturong at the zoo in minoqua, Wisconsin and it did smell just like buttered popcorn! I was actually smelling it and thinking it really was popcorn before I read the sign on his cage and learned where the scent was coming from... I wouldn’t have “binturong” if the snack stand wasn’t so far away! 😆
Binturongs also live in the Philippines (in particular, in parts of Palawan). They have a strong tendency toward becoming pets because they're quite docile, they like to nap a lot, and they tend to stick around when they know you give them food. Since they're on the IUCN Red List as Vulnerable, this probably isn't a good thing, but it did give me an opportunity to meet one while on vacation. I can tell you that they (the binturongs themselves) don't smell like popcorn. The binturong climbed up onto my shoulders, so I got very good sniff. If you know what a wet dog that hasn't had a bath in a while smells like, that's what it smelled like. Its pee might smell good, but the animal itself was a little rank. But maybe it just needed a bath or something.
"If it smells like delicious buttered popcorn when you are in a middle of the forest, it’s not because there’s a movie theater nearby, but Binturongs, arboreal carnivore, might be." I think a movie theater is more likely than a bearcat. For that matter, a 100-year-old sportscar would be the more likely find, if a Bearcat *was* in the area.
"Paradoxical Pee". Along with the Palm Civets, the Binturong belong to the subfamily Paradoxurinae, which is from the root Paradoxurus "contrary to expectation" with the Latin suffix -inae. To me, it looks like it could be a pun: Paradoxurinae "paradox + urine" basically "paradoxical pee", which describe the Binturong quite well! Mad props to taxonomists if this was intentional. Sources: wikipedia, a-z animals, wiktionary, my own anecdotal musings.
Maillard reaction is named after french physician and chemist Louis Camille Maillard and it is pronounced roughly "my-YAR". Most non-French people I've heard say it as "my-yard reaction"
Why do many predators have a remarkably strong smell? When I can smell a human from over 10m it's just annoying, but when prey can smell a predator from a healthy distance, it's bad for the predator and good for the potential prey...
I am from Indonesia. We have had binturong and civet that smell like pandan in my neighborhood when I was just a little kid. When there's still many trees in our neighborhood. Now there's no more sadly ... Some people make binturong n pandan civet their pet nowadays... Very2 cute animals.
Thanks for the support my pal! I appreciate you understanding my particular popcorn eating habits, because as we all know, popcorn eating habits are a vital part of life that defines a person's character.
Since these creatures have undoubtedly been around for several hundred thousand or millions of years, isn't it more accurate to say that your buttered popcorn smells like binturong pee? Keep that in mind next time you microwave a bag of peecorn... I mean POPCORN, for a Netflix binge.
So is there a conection to why some people smelling like corn chips ? p.s. this is an actual question, im realy confused why my cosins house or why he smells like corn tortilla chips ?!
Binturong! YEAH! They've been a favorite of mine since 4 years ago. I'm just sad that they haven't get much coverage since they're a pretty endemic species... yet some people actually keep them as pets... Hmmmm? I WANT OOOONNNNEEEE! 😆😆
To be fair they may only really smell like popcorn to us humans. The human species has one of the worst noses in the mammalian kingdom. We really don’t rely on it for that much and can only readily distinguish a much smaller range of smells. It’s quite likely IMHO that to the Binterong their scent might be quite different.
_(Slowly puts away bag of popcorn)_
...Looks like they found me.
SkyVenomZero yep.
"Their pee smells like popcorn" sounds like something Ralph Wiggum would say.
Jetpack Rorschach lol
To pee 2-AP or not to pee 2-AP, that is the question.
Just like Caesar said :
2-AP together
Strong!
The real question is: do they taste like popcorn?
No, they taste like chicken
You know someone has probably tried this...For Science!
Seeing how the population has declined more than 30% over the last decade, yeah, they do.
Note to self: if my girlfriend smells like popcorn, she's ready for mating.
Are... Are you okay?
Desi N Have... Have you ever heard (seen) a joke?
@@secretevil372 Wooosh

Just watch for that *fertility* trap!
What's this yellow stuff on my popcorn? I ask because I've "been too wrong" about the Binturong before.
No, it was all part of the test:
Buttered popcorn was in the first bin, the liquid waste of test animals was in the second bin. During the double-blind test, you guessed incorrectly.
You got *Bin 2 Wrong!*
No Celebrity
lol nice :)
Ha ha ha ha.. you’re ridiculously hilarious.. I keep seeing your comments on channels I look at? You’re adorable

When you're being eaten or urinated on.
hey Aspect Science, I see you everywhere I go :)
Popcorn is vile! 🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮
A Person....are you really a person!? No person can resist the mighty popped corn!
When the kernel digs into your gums.
This is hard to believe. But since it's SciShow, it must have a kernel of truth.🤔

When i saw this vid my eyes *popped* open
Jeeze! I would be waaay to embarrassed to say something that CORNY!
This is gold.
Next episode do "why do we hear differently in the morning".
People hear differently in the morning ? Dafuk ?
@@necrisro I don't think this has ever happened to me...
Hear what ?
Ive noticed it too, when i watch UA-cam in the evening the volume sounds low at about 75% and when i watch in the morning it sounds loud at 50%
Out of the corner of my eye, the eyeglass shadow looked like mascara tears. Now I cant unsee it.
African Leopards scent mark and it smells like Buttered Popcorn, too.
Leopards were the first animals I heard of that had popcorn scented urine as well. Amazingly odd.
So basically all movie theatres are the marked territory of the Binturong?
Well, I guess there is only one way to find out. Bring me a dozen bearcats stat!
Better than popcorn smelling like carnivores 😂
Judging by the comments Olivia has become household name finally. Well done! Eftards are numerous.

Maybe the reason these Predators smell like Popcorn is because Predator is coming to the movies.
It's all just one big advertisement; *SCREW YOU NATURE!*
Thanks, I was eating lunch watching this

I love binturongs! They are the sweetest babies ever, having worked with them they are so unique :)
I told my daughter that my feet sometimes smells like buttered popcorn, but she disagrees. I'm going to tell her we need a pet Binturong.
Go Bearcats!
Maillard is pronounced my-YARD
I wonder if that led to any confusion when Monsieur Maillard was telling those pesky garçons what they had better stay out of?
You damn kids get outta maillard!!!
Quoi, monsieur Maillard? Je ne comprends pas!
actually it's my-YAR, with no D
Whoops, you're right. My bad. Crazy Frenchmen and their weird language.
Never knew about this creature. It looks so cute and cool at the same time (and the popcorny smell is a nice bonus)

Great, buttered popcorn will never be the same...LOL!
"Honey I'm home, did you make popcorn?"
"Nope, just sprayed Androstenedione on the walls".
And with that, the overlap for the Venn Diagram of "Educational UA-cam" and "...*That* UA-cam" got a bit bigger.
So what you're saying is that, in order to keep their population numbers up, we should open more movie theaters in the forests they inhabit.
Neat.
I love the smell of pee.
Never thought I'd ever say that
Caramalisation and maillard reaction are different things, but both do occur when making caramel
Great vid thanks!

So THIS is how movie theater popcorn is flavored...
Very very entertaining! Oh, and please pass the popcorn!

*POPCORN JUICE*
That's just grodey. XD
I suddenly got a mental image of walking down a street in Malaysia only to see a bunch of binturongs all grinding on a movie theater.
Breaking news: Movie Theater popcorn factory exposed to have Millions of Binturongs
But that raises the question of how binturongs react to actual buttered popcorn.
Lol, when my dog smelled like popcorn I knew it was time for a bath
I've been around this animal before and I can confirm it smells like popcorn

you just blew my mind. just remembered that episode
Wouldn't surprise me at all if humans already use this as flavour
Do they smell like real butter, or the type used in instant popcorn?
I will never think of popcorn in the same way...urine and mating...geez...

I always wondered where that popcorn like smell was coming from.
So, is this what movie theaters use to lure people in.
Do Binturongs, think popcorn smells like piss? Or maybe, it'll be an aphrodisiac for them.
My dog sometimes smells like popcorn when he sleeps. Guess i know what kind of dreams he's having

That's gotta be bs
The first whiff of buttered popcorn, especially the artificial kind, think Jelly Bellies, smells like urine to me.
Are you sure you don't have this backwards? The stuff they squirt on popcorn at the theatre certainly looks like it could be binturong pee,
My popcorn urine brings all the binturongs to the yard,
Damn right its better than yours!
My cats' heads sometimes smell like popcorn too. I wish those brats would leave my popcorn alone.

Isn't it the Maillard Reaction? Or the Mallard Reaction a different thing?
Do they make good pets? If breeders were to serve them some buttered popcorn, would that put them "in the mood"? So many questions come to mind!
my pee sometimes smells like popcorn if i pee in a hot shower
So is there a conection to why some people smelling like corn chips ? p.s. this is an actual question, im realy confused why my cosins house or why he smells like corn tortilla chips ?!
