If you were below deck in one of the bedrooms when the ship tipped on its side, it would be virtually impossible to escape because the door would become a hatch in the ceiling several meters above you
The captain of the Bayesian, James Cutfield 51, told Italian police that he wasn’t monitoring the weather closely and the ship’s retractable keel was raised, even with an anchor depth of 160 feet. Lowering the retractable keel would have added stability and made it harder to capsize.
He was a Captain, WHY wasnt he doing his job watching the weather closely or his trusted crew members on shifts, also lowering the keel for stability when a tornado was in the area?
@@Clare0116 The captain of the old sailboat anchored next to the modern Bayesian monitored the bad weather and started her engine to keep the old sailboat’s nose into the wind at anchor to keep from being rolled over in a quick wind shift. It took the Bayesian to capsize at anchor in less than 5 minutes by what the old sailboat's captain anchored next to her said.
The crew had 10 members with only one crewmember killed. The passenger was 12 with 6 most likely drowned. The crewmember quarters were high in the bow, giving them quick access to the weather deck to escape through deck hatches. The passenger cabins were in the stern end and lower in the vessel making it hard to escape.

My understanding from Lynch's widow's interview is that they woke up in the same room at the same time when the storm hit. How did she get out while he didn't ? I haven't heard the explanation for this.
Well I guess she went up on deck and he didn’t…. The storm started to pick up a few minutes before the yacht was knocked flat. There is CCTV and AIS data showing this.
@@Captain101-x1o Probably despite the storm no one had a clue that the yacht was in as much danger as she was. Although the captain might have begun safety procedures like closing hatches and portholes.
Life is strange, so he dies due to celebrating a win in court. Had he lost he might have been alive. Makes you think things would have been better had he lost.
Why wasn't the yacht equipped with escape hatches on the hull in case of capsizing? The survivers could bang on the hull to attract attention to rescuers.
Generally no. It’s not a requirement and you won’t normally see this on ships or ferry’s either. Yachts will normally self right due to the weight of the keel - but only if the doors hatches are shut. Normally only catamarans have escape hatches in the hull because they can’t self right.
Wrong. Perini are.renowed fir safety. The keel was up so 250 ft mast not counter balanced. The radar wasn't monitored. Ppl were in cabins, hard to escape from. Crew were not on high alert. 100 % crew error.
Really something this expensive should also have scuba gear to breathe under water in such an emergency. Along with life jackets and dingy to save everyone. Number one rule on running or walking is you always do so in to traffic not the same direction of it so you can always see everything. Which direction was he running? Pavement? Same when walking on the pavement. Keep to the same direction rules as the road so traffic is never behind you closest to the edge when passing a person. Fact is often stranger than fiction.
Well... going underwater is a bit more complex than jogging. 😊 If you haven't taken a diving course where you at least learned to compensate for the water pressure, not to panic and understand where up and down are, there's no way you can survive beyond 5 meters of depth (and even less), despite you have a scuba gear to breath. 😊
@@slopermarco I've only been 10 feet under water (3m) without an air supply and that was deep enough. I think jogging might be far more dangerous though. ok, fresh air sealed hull keeps a boat buoyant when capsized. We do not know how quick things happened. I would want another yacht attached behind if I spent that much money. In retrospect. Parachutes come in pairs. Looking like s sink hole type we really did not expect this to happen event and were therefore not prepared.
It had life rafts, one of which deployed and saved the life’s of 15 passengers and crew. It also had life jackets on board. Scuba gear? Really? It takes about 15 mins to get scuba gear on, and that’s not starting asleep in your cabin! Those who drowned didn’t even make it out of their cabins, and even if they had scuba gear, they still probably wouldn’t have made it out - it took professional divers 2 days to recover them.
Actually tornadoes lift water upwards into the air, so it would also lift the yacht making it more likely to fly than sink! Far more likely it was knocked onto its side and took on water through open hatches and doors.
@@Captain101-x1o Although water is indeed sucked up , it is essentially this large mass of air movement that changes the density of the water due to air saturation , yes the boat could be knocked over but this combined with the water density the boat lost all buoyancy in under a minute according to witnesses. We now know the boat looks fully intact still having it's mast attached this indicates sudden sinking and combined with open hatches filled the boat suddenly.

I worked on Bayesian. The crew would of been on the top deck - securing the deck. No need for escape hatches for the crew in that circumstance
